Here's my current Karador build. This deck started out as a Teneb build and eventually I succumbed to the power of Karador. I'm looking for any input/advice/card suggestions.
Here are a couple notes:
-The deck is designed to be competitive but fun, hence the low amount of one turn kill combos. Though I would take suggestions
- Usually I like to set up a big turn of reanimating and attacking after I've done some mana ramping
- I don't own any of the original fetch lands, hence their absence
- I don't want to play the dredge style Karador, so no Golgari Ghave Troll and the like.
- Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated
And now, here are the decklists (borrowing from IceBear I've set them out by function.
Well you do run 1 turn combos in your deck. Mikaeus + Vish Kal permanent plague winds non hexproof or shroud and adding Woodfall Primus kills almost all permanents. I never had success with Krosan Tusker, Debtor's Knell, or Buried Alive and I suggest them as cuts. Tusker really only added a creature to my graveyard and I felt was better fit with Wood Elves or Farhaven Elf. Debtor's Knell felt incredibly slow and I already ran Reya Dawnbringer and Sheoldred together to recur my own graveyard. Even though Rector into Debtor's knell is sick, getting Defense of the Heart or Survival seems much stronger than hoping to survive a turn around to reanimate one creature. Finally Buried Alive attracts so much grave hate and I feel is better filled with a tutor as it doesn't telegraph your plays and isn't nearly as easy to neuter.
Thanks Darchow -- I just put Mikaeus in yesterday and hadn't realized the potential there.
I think I'll cut Krosan Tusker, he hasn't been great lately. And I'll take out the Debtor's Knell for Reya, hadn't thought about her.
I Dont recommend reya, she isnt that great a source of recursion. Karador and his colors offer much cheaper, better recursion. Get Animate Dead, Necromancy, and Reanimate. Animate dead and necromancy can be recurred with sun titan, as enchantments are permanents.
Artisan of Kozilek: I've always found him to be large, expensive, and not particularly exciting for what he does. Sure he recurs one thing for 9 and is a big body. But if someone steals him and swings him back at you, you won't be terribly pleased. I think there's much better things you can be doing for 9 mana. As much as I hate the stale Tooth and Nail, it's definitely better for the same cost.
Bloodgift Demon: I find his draw takes too long, even if he is on a decent body. Elvish Visionary among a few others can be abused immediately, and repetitively if you find a decent sac outlet.
I tend to prefer ETB effects in Karador decks. Doomed Necromancer isn't good enough to make the cut of non ETB for me. Nor is Geth. Nor is Krosan Tuskar (but you already mentioned him).
I love ambition's cost, but again I think there's better in creature form! Especially with grislebrand coming out.
Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Explosive Veg, Skyshroud Claim, Farseek: I find all of these (except maybe skyshroud) to be weaker than their creature counterparts. Especially ones that get the axe right away. They can be pumped by Elesh Norn, Sacced with things like skullclamp, addeded to your graveyard to increase body count, etc. Yavimaya Granger, Wood Elves, Yavimaya Dryad, Farhaven Elf, etc.
Mana Reflection and Debtor's Knell I find to be too weak for their effect. They're super expensive to play, and can potentially have a big impact on the game but definitely require a turn around the table. A replacement reflection could definitely be the green praetor, I can't remember his name. Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger. Costs 2 more to cast, and has an immediate impact on the game if you play him late enough for it to matter (usually).
Well id personally drop the Green Suns Zenith ASAP, you basically have it to search for primeval titan or your two elders. too many creatures karador wants to play arent green for it to be awesome.
i would also drop preators counsel and pull from eternity. Counsel just......isnt great in my opinion. you play it then someone makes you discard your hand...you just lost a turn for nothing. Or youi play it and become the biggest threat at the table, generally not worth it. Even then it takes many turns to make it actually worth it.'
I would run Riftsweeper over pull if exile is a problem.
Personally I'd entertain thought's of putting Yosei, the Morning Star in just incase someone is targeting you heavily and you want a big stop that button. Also I noticed you only had 3 board wipes unless I miscounted. Why not run more? Karador is infamous for bouncing back after board wipes, so why not level the playing field more with stuff like Nevinyrral's Disk and Oblivion Stone they are good enough to help turn around games, but not too broken to make it un-fun for everyone if they built their decks right. As for what you should take out... I'll leave that to you.
When I get my hands on them, I plan to add in: High Market, Necromancy, Greater Good, Riftsweeper (replacing pull from eternity)
@Truhls - ill definetly add in necromancy when I can get one. Riftsweeper will also be replacing pull very soon. Praetors counsel is a favorite card that I always play in green decks..but given The recursion theme...it's on the chopping block for when I get some missing cards
@nursejason - a few of your recommendations to take out are favorite cards of mine that I enjoy playing too much to remove: Artisan, Mana Reflection, and Debtors Knell. I love these too much to ever take them out. Will definetly take your advice on changing ambitions cost to griselbrand!
@Wolf in the mist - there are actually four board wipes if you count Austere Command. There are also a few combos that act as board wipes (eg. Mikaeus Woodfall Primus). I might try to squeeze in an oblivion stone though.
Well if you wanted to set up a HUGE turn of reanimation... Conspiracy + Iname, Death's Aspect + Living Death or Patriarch's Bidding would do the trick. Not sure how combo you want to get but Mikaeus, the Unhallowed enables a lot of them as previously mentioned. Mikaeus + Triskelion is instant win as documented multiple , times here. From your list, you can cut Stoneforge Mystic, easily your weakest tutor. If you're going to be playing competetively, you're going to want Crucible of Worlds somewhere, or Life from the Loam, or both. Life + cycle lands is not a half bad draw engine, either. All in all it looks like a good, solid standard Karador list though.
Dryad Arbor? I do see you have the other half of the "combo" with Green Sun's Zenith, turn one "Forest", Green Sun for Arbor, go is pretty good.
Fleshbag Marauder? I think he's flat out better than Bone Shredder due to sacrifice and no need for Echo if I want to keep him as a blocker (and sac'd something else).
@Nuclearsunburn - thanks for the suggestion, that's a little more hardcore than I'm looking for. Btw, awesome username.
Thanks! I'd go with Grave Pact over Butcher, three mana cheaper and harder to get rid of. Also, Lord of Extinction might be a big creature guy to look at. He's pretty good.
I would highly suggest running lord of extinction. It's possibly the best beater the deck has, granted it is a vanilla creature with no special attributes, but the fact that his power is equal to all the cards in all graveyards and not just creatures is amazing. I can't tell you how many people I've one shot with him now.

I'll definitely give him a try, and I'll report back.
Two cards I can highly recommend are Chord of Calling and Necromancy. Both are extremely versatile cards and that can answer most problems because of the vast variety of utility creatures you are playing. What makes them so much better than other comparable cards is the instant speed: I found that because Karador is so great with ETB creatures he is a bit light on instant speed answers and cards like those two mitigate that.
Speaking of instant speed answers: Why don't you play Swords to Plowshares? It's arguably the best spot removal in the game. Beast within is probably better than Putrefy. It can also hit Enchantments, Lands and Planeswalkers and the token is a negligable drawback in this format.

I really don't like him: While huge he just is a Vanilla beater with no immediate value, no protection and no evasion. You already run Vish Kal who can also get absudly huge but has evasion, lifelink, acts as a sac outlet and removal.
Why aren't you running Saffi Eriksdotter? It has an unbelievable amount of value with this deck, and you are already running Revillark and Karmic Guide for shennanigans.
Not to mention that if you play saffi and add in a sac outlet like altar of dementia you can make an infinite mill combo. it's a little less douche-y than the mikaeus trisk. combo since it can be stopped if someone runs an eldrazi or graveyard hate.

I'll post an update soon, but basically I've incorporated all of your suggestions: Beast within and Stp.
So I've played with necromancy for a few weeks now...and never realized it had flash. Thanks for pointing that out.
If you want a gravepact effect, consider Martyr's Bond. It costs 2 more, yeah, but it has such a broad effect. And it's actually less color intensive.
Very cool. I had Karmic Justice in the deck for a while but it got cut for a reason I don't recall.
I tried a few games with Gravepact and it didn't really make a fun atmosphere at the table. I'm testing that slot right now for either Liliana of the Veil or Avacyn. Both do cool things.
Worked on the deck some more this week (List of changes below).
For some reason the deck hasn't been running as smoothly lately as it was a month or so ago. I can't figure out exactly what change I made is making the difference.
Made some updates to the deck to address two primary concerns: (i) the need for more early ramp and (ii) ways to deal with blue mages (counter magic runs rampant in my playgroup).
The other changes are either cards I was tired of/were underperforming (Sword of Feast and Famine, Buried Alive) in exchange for some stuff that is really just cool (Disciple of Bolas).

Next update will likely bring Angel of Serenity, either in Iona or Kokopuff's spot.
As always, would love to hear any comments.
