My edit of the original Mirror Mastery Commander deck.
When I first got the deck, I took out most of the nonbasics because I wanted the efficient ramp spells to be able to do more work, and I can't afford a set of shock lands or original duals. However, after the release of Avacyn Restored, I decided to experiment with cutting shuffle effects out completely, using other methods (like Oracle of Mul Daya) for mana ramp, so I will probably be taking another look at the nonbasics. I'm still looking for replacements for some of them, and don't wanna change the mana costs by too much. The drawback of "group hug" style cards like the Magus of the Vineyard is somewhat less in my group because the people I play with tend to play cheaper cards on average so I'm not as worried about giving them extra mana.
I also want to make a separate deck out of Animar eventually. I feel his ability doesn't mesh well with Riku's, but I like them both, and the color combo, so I still wanna use them.
this actually looks more of a animar deck than riku. no mana rocks to help accelerate mana production, draw spells are lacking, no graveyard manipulation to help out with killed permanents. but your creature base looks cool. does anyone in your playgroup wrath-like effects or board sweepers?
I'd really like to know what route this is going. You have next to no ramp in your deck and you absolutely need it. Cultivate and K. Reach aren't enough. Add Explosive Vegetation and/or Skyshroud Claim. You would also benefit from Farhaven Elf, Yavimaya Elder/Dryad, and even Wood Elves. Ramp is the backbone of this deck and you should be running 6-7 ramp effects in order to feed the hungry Riku.
Cards like Rites of Flourishing, all the Vows, Garruk, and Elixir need to be replaced with cards that you can copy with Riku. This will enhance the synergy of the deck.
Next, you should pick a strategy. I would suggest SuperSonik's primer. He has a lot of different ideas and ways to build Riku.
Yeah, Rogue'd, most of the cards will probably go into Animar when he gets his own deck. And I won't be using mana rocks to accelerate, since I can't copy them and I have access to better accel with green. I had to cut back on the number of draw spells- Riku spends a lot of time on the board and until I can resolve Praetor's Counsel I often end up going over max hand size. On that note, do need some redundancy for increasing hand size...
Some board sweepers but not much. I probably have the highest budget in my usual group, although I'm going to start playing with some new people soon and I don't know how they are yet.
and Ghost of Perdition- I'm not using land search, since I've been trying not to shuffle my library. I talk about it a little more here. The Vows are definitely replaceable, you're right about that. I'll also look for an alternate method of recycling the graveyard, since the Elixir is, as you said, a complete nonbo. Garruk and the Rites of Flourishing are, right now, not replaceable since I don't have a lot of mana acceleration options without shuffling. If I end up looking to cut some mana accel, they'll be the first ones to go, but I haven't even replaced all of the shuffle effects yet. If I decide to revisit that idea (it is, after all, an experiment) then I'll look to cut them.
