I'm trying to help my friend build a new EDH deck, and what he wants is a punisher-style deck with a focus on Demons. He's settled on Sol'kanar the Swamp King as his general.
He's working on the deck on his own, but I told him I'd draft up a list to bring him when I see him on Wednesday, and we can compare notes. Before then, I'd like advice from the forum community on the list I've drafted. Before I go into the deck itself, a few notes, based on my friend's card-gathering ability and the rules of the league we play in:
No mass discard (black Myojin)
No mass LD (Decree of Annihilation; Blood Moon effects also count against opponents with lots of nonbasics, but things they do to themselves like Price of Glory is OK)
Card draw in moderation (net +6 additional cards/turn unless the effect specifically says 7, like Griselbrand)
No slaver locks
No more than 1 extra turn at a time (no Time Stretch at all)
No casting the same spell more than 3 times/turn (no inf. mana/Capsize=Upheaval, etc.)
This isn't a "budget" deck, but at the same time prices need to be within reason. My friend can't generally afford things like Wasteland, Shocklands, etc. As a general rule of thumb, I ask that you don't recommend any individual cards worth more than ~$10, unless it fits the deck exceptionally or something.
(The cards I'm listing with the initial draft are either cards that I know he owns, cards I own that I can trade him, or are reasonably cheap to obtain)
