Intro:
So I started to make this deck as a mono-black Demon tribal deck. Half way through I realized how bad it was going to be! From there I decided to go mono-black goodstuff and it actually ended up pretty well tuned. It spends it’s early game ramping and tutoring. By turn 3-5. The general should be out and you should be able to pump him with landfall once or twice per turn. The deck has issues against mono-blue and cards like Austere Command and Aven Mindcensor can really shut it down hard. But nothing it can’t recover from.
Thanks for the comment. I've thought about Storm Cauldron a couple of times but I've never seen it used effectively. It seems like it would be super situational where it would be helping me more than hindering my opponents.
Storm Cauldron is a f**n house in OBNix. I ran it from day one and never had any issues. It was considered, by my playgroup, the best card in the deck until I retired it.
Black really has only one issue - Enchantments - Look into some enchantment removal. (I'll save you the time: You need All is Dust and Karn, the Liberated or Steel Hellkite although the Dragon can feel clunky at times)
You'll like this deck it's fun and can do some cool things and can be played in different ways (agro/control/combo). The next evolution of the deck runs green and things get really crazy.
I would say cut either Mana Vault, or Mind Shatter. You already have similar versions of both these cards, if it was me the vault would get the axe.
As a side note, Ascendant Evincar isn't really worth his cost imo, if you find that he's useful by all means keep him, but I can think of a few creatures for the same cmc that would probably be better in his slot considering your general is already going to be big enough to make 1/1 negligible and even most utility creatures in your opponents decks will have a toughness of 2. You could throw in Massacre Wurm if you want to kill off the small guys plus pinging them for the damage fits the theme for your general. Evil Mikaeus gives your guys the same boost, and he gives you the potential to get more gas out of your creatures, especially the ones that have etb abilities or give you something for sacrificing them, I'm looking at you Xiahou Dun, the One-Eyed. I know you have a lot of mana doublers but Nirkana Revenant is too good not to mention. And Drana is only 5 cmc and she's a boss.
If I had to recommend one from those I would say evil Mikey, but I thought I would give you options.
I like everything you changed except taking out Vesuva just because even the chance to copy Cabal coffers seems so enticing, or even one of your fetch lands to use later when your general is out. But I get why you did it though.
Not sure if this is really a necro, since I'm interested in an Ob-Nixilis EDH, but what about Terrain Generator? Free land drops for not too much of a mana investment! (;
