Holy hell, did I edit the crap out of this deck. My original list just tried to make Omnath enormous and swing in for 21, and I was using all kinds of terrible cards. I barely ran any ramp spells, and the ones I used SUCKED! So now we can really play this deck, and after a few trial games, I am incredibly pleased with the results. It feels tight, strong, but not overpowered. Don't think I'll write a primer for this one (OH GOD NO, ICEBEAR WHY!?!?!), simply because he is not terribly complicated to use. But I do enjoy the mental exercise, so I might just. Anyway, enjoy my list, and feel free to critique. The number next to the card is its converted mana cost, and they're arranged by what they do (within reason: some stuff falls into multiple categories, I just picked the most relevant as I see it).
Gaea's Cradle - I haven't felt like this was necessary. The only time was when I played either Gelatinous Genesis or Avenger of Zendikar, and then it was kinda win-more. Plus, I don't have that kind of money for one card.

Solemn Simulacrum - Seems kinda slow, but the draw ability is nice. Maybe I could just forgo him for some more ramp, preferably cheaper. He hasn't ever felt terribly relevant, but I can find him with Eye of Ugin (might be a little excessive, but notable).
brawn might work to make sure Omnath has trample plus it gives any of your other creatures trample as well. just a thought. And have you considered Oracle of Mul Daya[/CARD? ]Also, I run a Sasaya, Orochi Ascendant deck that focuses on land drops, and I've found that one of my favorite draw engines is Seer's Sundial, especially with Azusa and Oracle. Good luck!
Posted some major changes to this list, finally happy with what I've done with the deck. He sucked so badly before, but now he is a lean, mean, green, fighting machine. Absolutely a nasty deck, but I still need some help. So any and all suggestions would be hugely welcome.
Maybe Predator, Flagship? How often do you get good use out of that card? It's not one I see a lot, and is probably dependent on your meta.
I'm building an Omnath deck for a friend who likes big green stompy things, but I have zero experience playing the guy. What are some key strategies to using him that you have found effective? I'm sure it depends on how blue the table is, but do you drop him on turn 3 (or even 2) and start feeding him right away? Having either protective equipment out, or at least Vedalken Orrery so you can recast him with his mana pool seems like it would be necessary in some games, though I can also see just throwing him out there recklessly to make some noise. Do you aim to kill players through general damage with him, or use him more for mana ramp and the occasional big hit if it comes up?
If you need the ship for removal, you could probably drop one of the 3 mana ramp spells, Cultivate or Kodama's. You have Eternal Witness to get one of them back if you really need it.
I feel like this deck desperately wants Winding Canyons. Same function as Orrery, letting you recast Omnath with stored mana when he's killed, but it's harder to get rid of and easier to tutor out in green. Awakening as a second Seedborn Muse seems worthwhile as well. You're almost certainly going to be able to take advantage of it better than your opponents.
More methods of giving Omnath trample/evasion seem like a good idea. He's (She's? It's?) probably the most efficient wincon in the deck, but only if you can connect. Brawn was mentioned earlier and is great, Loxodon Warhammer will gain you an obscene amount of life, Whispersilk Cloak protects him and threatens to kill in a single shot pretty quickly, and Akroma's Memorial does all sorts of horrible things. Dosan the Falling Leaf is a respectable way to push through counters and other instant speed shenanigans, though he can cause problems with recasting Omnath at instant speed. Momentous Fall could definitely do some good here. That translates to a lot of cards and life.
