I'm making this deck, mostly as a backup for my Lim-Dul the Necromancer deck. If that deck ends up sucking or if I get bored with it, I thought I'd try out a bit of an old school deck with He Who Hungers and spirits. I've always liked this card, for the art, the name, even the ability. Plus I have a ton of old, junky spirits from Kamigawa that I know I'm not using.
The emphasis on the deck is definitely a spirit/arcane style but more based on gaining card advantage through recurring creatures back to my hand or the battlefield through Soulshift and other means. This is mostly because of my general's activated ability but also for cards like Grave Pact. I wanted to put in Lifeline, but thought it'd be too beneficial for my opponent.
First card I looked for was Thoughtseize, followed by Duress and Distress. I don't know how well that would complement the deck. Also Specters definitely would rock.
WOOT Will-o'-the-wisp luvin! And Revenant! You are one card short of my three'm dream team in spirit tribal: Mischievous Poultergeist. Not going to say it is good, by any means, but its cool with nice art. Plus, if you were wanting good, you prolly would not be using he who hungers.
Do you rely on his soulshift very often? I do not think it triggers if you Command Zone your general instead of letting him eat the bucket. If you wanted to, i suggest some lifegain with Phyrexian Reclamation for endless recursion.
GL and cheers!

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."

LOL glad you like the spirit choices! Yeah I saw Mischievous Poltergeist, but he just missed the cut. He could be pretty annoying though with his regeneration.
I think I do need some more reusable recursion. Phyrexian Reclamation fits perfectly! And yes I will usually have him hit the graveyard so his soulshift can trigger AND so he doesn't cost more the next time I play him. Disturbed Burial might make it in too. I think I'll take out Balthor the Defiled (doesn't fit the theme all that well) for Phyrexian Reclamation.
As far as more discard, I'm not too sure if I need a ton more. I do have quite a bit, and would like to keep a bunch of the discard as arcane or spirits just to fit the flavor and to work well with some of the other cards. I will definitely consider the specters though, since they do kinda sorta fit the flavor, a little bit.
EDIT: Added in Broken Visage and took out Choice of Damnations, cuz I realized that that card isn't nearly as good when you have double the life. Plus it makes a spirit token now which is just cool for flavor reasons.
I think you could probably fit Hollowborn Barghest. It's a big fatty on the ground and makes the discard effects more relevant for your opponents. Plus, it plays nice both early on in multiplayer and later when it becomes 1 on 1 (because of course we are winning ). Also, you might consider Altar of Shadows as repeatable kill and extra mana late game. If you need some more discard, Dauthi Mindripper will usually get in for some free mass discard.
Oh yeah, and where is the Queen of discard/tutor/recursion?

Iname, Death Aspect might be fun as a pseudo-Buried Alive.
This deck looks really fun; I hope it works out for you.
