MTG Salvation

I must admit, I'm still fairly new to EDH, so this deck will appear as a big fail to some, but I wanna make it look better and have the most fun with it. This is what I made from what I have. Any suggestions would be welcome

OK, let's start out by going over the TEN COMMANDMENTS of EDH:

1. Go big or go home. This is THE NUMBER ONE RULE OF EDH. It is the fundamental principle that makes this format different from all the rest. Style points are rewarded and encouraged in EDH. If your deck doesn't make people stop and say "WOW, that's awesome!" at least once in the game, you probably don't have a good deck. Note that this rule does NOT mean shear size is important.
- For example, Playing a vanilla 7/7 creature like Duskdale Wurm is pretty useless. Playing a 7/7 creature that prevents your opponents from casting spells of a single color (her name's Iona) is excellent. Playing your Iona, Shield of Emeria and protecting it with a Spearbreaker Behemoth at the same time off of an entwined Tooth and Nail is the reason why we play EDH.

2. This is a casual, multiplayer format. Aside from rule #1, this rule also defines the format and makes it unique. If you are playing EDH in one-on-one situations, you are probably not getting the point of the game.

3. You are playing EDH. You are NOT playing standard, you are NOT playing legacy, and you are NOT playing a draft. Players start with 40 life, not 20, and there are multiple opponents for you to take down. Cards that are good in other formats are not necessarily good in EDH, and vice versa. This is something that most EDH players fail to grasp. For example:
- in Standard, Lightning Bolt is an incredible card. 3 damage for 1 mana at instant speed is extremely efficient and useful. In EDH? TERRIBLE! Every player starts with 40 life (twice that of normal games), and there are always multiple opponents, so you aren't going to burn everyone else out. Furthermore, people either play very large creatures (see: ELDER DRAGON) or a very large number of creatures. Either way, you only get ONE Bolt, and the odds are very slim that it will actually kill something important.
- Vicious Shadows is a horrible card in both constructed and limited play. So is Lurking Predators. They are too expensive and don't do enough to justify their cost. In EDH, however, cost is not an issue, so these two cards become very powerful. The former is excellent because creatures die all the time. The latter is excellent because you can potentially get FREE UNCOUNTERABLE creatures.

4. You only get one of each card, and you have 99 cards in your deck. The odds that you will draw that one card during the course of a game are very small. The odds of you drawing that one card in your opening hand are even smaller. Therefore, you either need to have enough redundancy to ensure that you get the desired effect when you need it (like running Farhaven Elf and Wood Elves together) or you need to run enough tutors to be able to search for what you need.

5. Creatures are extremely FRAGILE. They die all the time. Trying to prevent them from dying is futile. This is especially true with your general. Expect to cast your general at least 1-2 times for every player in the game.

6. Because creatures are extremely fragile, auras are completely useless. Remember this: Auras Are Awful (AAA). Unless your general is Zur or Uril, don't bother with Auras.

7. Because of rule #1, any cards with drawbacks are unacceptable. Harrow is too risky: odds are that one of your multiple opponents will have a counterspell for it.

8. There are four things that every EDH deck needs, the four R's:
- Ramping. You need to find good ways to accelerate your mana. Every color combination can do this, thanks to all the good artifacts out there. A few Signets and a Darksteel Ingot are the defaults. Some decks (green in particular) have access to better ramp.
- Recursion. As I said before, your stuff WILL die. It is inevitable that someone somehow will kill something of yours, either intentionally or otherwise. Therefore, you need to be able to get it back somehow.
- Re-usability. This is why Ponder is garbage and Sensei's Divining Top is the best card in the format. Instants and sorceries should be kept to a minimum, as they are the hardest types to re-use. For example, Disentomb blows because it's only good once, but Disturbed Burial is decent because of buyback, and Haunted Crossroads is pretty good because it can be used more than once. Oversold Cemetery is excellent because it gets re-used every turn at no additional cost to you.
- Removal. Someone somewhere is going to play something that you don't like. It could be anything from a permanent to a spell to a land. Therefore, you need to be able to deal with anything that could potentially get in your way. Make sure you have ways to remove all sorts of problems, especially all types of permanents. This is why Woodfall Primus is a great card for EDH.

9. Dollar rare bins are amazing for building good EDH decks. A lot of the best cards in EDH can be found in dollar rare bins.

10. Sensei's Divining Top is the best card in EDH. Period. This is not up for debate. This is a FACT. It's cheap, efficient card manipulation, it's almost impossible to kill, and virtually no one ever tries to kill it (even if they had a Krosan Grip). I always tell people that EDH decks are 98 cards, with the other two being your general and your Top.
- That being said, Ponder is a terrible card, even though it has a similar effect as the Top, because it only works once and then it's done. Do NOT run it.

As for your deck, I'll list the cards that absolutely do not belong in the deck:
- Krosan Colossus: OMG, you morphed him and made me take 9 damage! I'll go down to 31 and it'll be dead by your next turn.
- Duskdale Wurm: See rule #1.
- Elvish Visionary: See rule #1.
- Greenweaver Druid: See rule #5.
- Avatar of Might: See rule #1.
- Civic Wayfinder: Not bad, but a Farhaven Elf is better because it puts the land into play for you. Oracle of Mul Daya is also great because you could potentially use it more than once.
- Thorn Elemental: See rule #1.
- Rhox: See rule #1.
- Ancient Ooze: See rule #5.
- Dusk Urchins: Not re-usable. Try Phyrexian Arena.
- Reclaim: Not re-usable. Try Eternal Witness.
- Hit // Run: Not re-usable.
- Underworld Dreams: See rule #3.
- Relentless Assault: Not re-usable. Try Hellkite Charger.
- Overrun: Not re-usable. Try Kamahl, Fist of Krosa.
- Harmonize: Not re-usable. Try Mind's Eye.
- Disentomb: Not re-usable. See previous example.
- Chandra Nalaar: Unless you have a Doubling Season, this isn't going to get there. See rule #3.
- Lightning Bolt: See rule #3. Try Flametongue Kavu or Spitebellows.
- Dark Banishing: Not re-usable. Try Shriekmaw or Bone Shredder.
- Soul Reap: Not re-usable. See rule #7.
- Drain the Well: Land destruction is a touchy subject in EDH. Usually, LD spells just piss people off, and you don't want to have multiple people pissed off at you. Unless there are some extremely broken lands in your metagame (Emeria, Gaea's Cradle, Tolarian Academy, Academy Ruins), I wouldn't run any LD. This card in particular is not re-usable (see rule #1). Try Acidic Slime or Woodfall Primus.
- Creeping Mold. See rule #1. Try Acidic Slime or Woodfall Primus.
- Caustic Rain: See rule #1. Try Acidic Slime or Woodfall Primus.
- Harrow: See rule #7. Try Kodama's Reach: it's much safer.
- Utopia Sprawl: See rule #6.
- Summoner's Pact: See rule #7.

I hope that this has been helpful for you. EDH takes some work, but if you're willing to put a little time into it, you will find that it is worth playing.

I don't know about the rest, but how about posting this on every other 1v1 topic out there? Then they wouldn't need to be debating Vendilion Clique at all.
