Time for a revamp on my Horde of Notions deck. The deck will focus on being tribal, budget, and multiplayer oriented. This deck is meant to be in a casual enviroment...
All my decks try to adhere to these guidelines:
1) Be able to win.
2) Be mostly true to a flavor and a theme.
3) Be good against one or multiple opponents.
5) Be fun to pilot or to play against and interactive.
6) Have multiple paths to victory.
7) Have lots of cool interactions and synergy.
8) Play out differently every game to keep it fun over a long time.
9) Be streamlined and fast to play without excessive upkeep, time-consuming play or overcomplicated boardstates.
10) Integrate the Commanders abilities into the strategy at least a little, but be able to win without ever playing the commander.
As a note, the number in front of the card will denote CMC of the creature/spell.
Also, as another note, our meta plays with 40 life totals and no general damage.
Cloudthresher Maelstrom Wanderer -- would need to cut down on the small creatures... Evershrike -- would need an enchantment package to go with this...
-- here is a persons enchant package to go with Evershrike
This is the second EDH deck I've ever made. This deck is designed for budget, 1 vs 1, casual play. I think I've got the mana fixing where I want it at, though I'm still having some trouble with the potency of the creatures and spells. My goal was to abuse the elemental's Evoke ability with lot's of graveyard recursion. Is there any "should have" and "should not have" cards to further abuse the mechanic? I've also sub-themed a steal mechanic as my control instead of the usual counter or burn. Should I be modifying this further to increase my control?
Any sugestions would be greatly appriciated!!

some good flexible 2-3 color ones to run (although some are quite expensive):
any of the tri-lands
any of the vivds
any of the shocklands
any of the painlands
any of the fetchlands
any of the duallands if you really want to sink some money into it
any of the new manlands
as far as the deck content is concerned, you might try some self-mill like glimpse the unthinkable, tome scour or buried alive - especially buried alive - to get some powerful elementals into your graveyard for horde to resurrect.
if you wouldn't mind, please take a look at my higure deck and make some suggestions. no one's commenting and it's depressing me
Here's others you might want to consider over a few you are running:
[CARD]Hateflayer
Slithermuse
Living Hive
Dread
Vigor
Quicksilver Elemental
Deepfire Elemental[/CARD] Cinder Elemental (Reusable Blaze)
And you shouldn't count Clone as an Elemental - you can't replay him with your general.
Primal Beyond is a good manafixer in this deck, and it's cheap.
If you're looking to cut cards, I'd look at your list of spells. It's all over the place with no real focus. Polymorph is too random to be of use on your own creatures and too dangerous to use on an opponent. I would totally swap it for Crib Swap. Sleep is a good card, but this isn't really a tap-down deck. Lifelink just asks for card disadvantage - switch it for an equipment or at least Spirit Loop. Lightning Bolt lacks oomph in EDH - 3 damage isn't that much in a format dominated by fat.
You should add Crib Swap and Nameless Inversion. Both can be recurred with your general's ability.
Your absolutely right! I never even considered them as possibilities. Great suggestion and they'll be going in my deck forsure!
I'd run Slave of Bolas over Act of Treason so they don't get it back.
You're two for two with the goods! I've put Act of Treason in the deck to work with Fatal Frenzy or Rite of Consumption but Slave of Bolas will be just as effective. The down side of coarse is that I wouldn't have the added bonus of x2 strike or life gain, but the up side is that I only need 1 card to get rid of target creature instead of two. Will definately be adding this one to the mix!
Thanks for the tips! I've got some deck reworking to do now. If anyone else has some thoughts, don't hesitate to post!
Thanks in advance
Going through all my EDH decks, trying to determine what I should cut. Outside opinion is more than welcome, so my question is: Looking at this deck, what would be the 'bottom 10' that you'd junk because the cards just arn't good enough??
Take out:
1 Sootstoke Kindler
1 Obelisk of Alara
1 Obelisk of Bant
1 Obelisk of Jund
1 Obelisk of Grixis
1 Obelisk of Naya
1 Obelisk of Esper
1 Unsummon
1 Dark Temper
1 Wanderer's Twig
1 Pacifism
Add:
1 Kodama's Reach
1 Darksteel Ingot
1 Mirari's Wake
1 Mana Reflection
1 Explosive Vegetation
1 Conspiracy (so you can use non-Elemental creatures)
1 Privileged Position
Scant few Auras are worth using, and Fists of the Demigod is not one of the good ones. It doesn't grant protection or evasion, which are the the primary selling points for the ones that do get played. I'd much prefer to use Shield of the Oversoul myself, to stick on the general.
You have Polymorph, and I see it and think "why not Proteus Staff instead?". It's reusable and hoses generals. The only reason I can come up with is that your friends might start to hate you.
I'm not a fan of Lightning Bolt in EDH; for one mana you could get Swords to Plowshares or Path to Exile and eliminate most any creature. Lightning Bolt kills much less than I'd like in EDH. Or, for one more mana there's Terminate...
As for the cards you suggested, I'd say yes to Slithermuse and Spitebellows but no to the rest. Ashling takes a fair amount of red to get going, and I don't know you'll have enough in a five-color deck. Shivan Meteor is rather pricy when you hve access to other colors for removal (like the cards I mentioned before). Maelstrom Nexus I'm on the fence about; it is card advantage, but it's a little expensive and random. I don't have any experience playing it, so perhaps someone else can offer some advice here?
Just a few nits to pick:
Scant few Auras are worth using, and Fists of the Demigod is not one of the good ones. It doesn't grant protection or evasion, which are the the primary selling points for the ones that do get played. I'd much prefer to use Shield of the Oversoul myself, to stick on the general.
The reason through Fists of the Demigod in was because several creatures in the deck could make use of it, being both red and black. Cards like Shield of the Oversoul, while awsome for Horde of Notions, has no other creature where it would get full benefit from. Perhaps that's acceptable....I just figured why get 50% out of a card instead of 100%. What is your take on this line of thinking?
I do agree with you on the evasion/protection aspect of an enchantment card though. It's nice to have a few 'tricks'.
You have Polymorph, and I see it and think "why not Proteus Staff instead?". It's reusable and hoses generals. The only reason I can come up with is that your friends might start to hate you.
Awsome card! I can see that working well in my elemental deck; with all those CITP abilities. Gotta get that. (yeah, Polymorph was on my dump list already; I just didn't know what recursion ability to replace it with)
I'm not a fan of Lightning Bolt in EDH; for one mana you could get Swords to Plowshares or Path to Exile and eliminate most any creature. Lightning Bolt kills much less than I'd like in EDH. Or, for one more mana there's Terminate...
You're the second person to tell me that Lightning bolt isn't worth EDH, so I guess I had better pull it. I like Terminate. That will make for a very good replacement. Path to Exile is a tad expensive for my low budget deck (I own one, but it's in my artifact deck).
Thanks for the suggestions.
More from other users would still be helpful if you have different views/suggestions.
I really just ran anything I could find for fixing, relying on basic lands with green as a fixing color... which reminds me, Fertilid is a great budget Elemental!
I put some money into the deck and cards like Survival of the Fittest and Intuition (whoops, I don't even see that in my list... I'll have to update it soon) make the deck work smoothly. It's still decently budget since I don't run duals or shock lands, but I've found that Thawing Glaciers+Bounce lands can really put you ahead.
