Yeah, I got the idea for this from the other guy's topic, and it made me want to try my own Baron Sengir deck for casual fun stuff. Anyway, give me feedback please, lem'me have it lol.
in my mono-color deck, I run 38 lands (not counting mana artifacts). Of course my mono-color deck is an Ob Nixilis, the fallen deck which relies on getting as many land drops as possible in a single turn.
I would say that on average in a generic tribal mono-color deck that 34 to 35 lands (not counting artifacts) would work just fine.
Also, the following cards are heavily meta dependent: Gloom, Soul Reap

Meh. I'd go with 37-38 still, because his general costs a whopping 8+2X mana. I run Lorthos, and even with mana rocks, I need 37 land drops to hit land drop 5-6 with consistency, and I only get to 7-8 because of mad card draw.
Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth is really unneccesary in your deck as it would only stand to benefit your opponents at this point.
However, if you wanted to add the death storehouse as someone mentioned, or Lake of the Dead, as well as the cycling swamps (forgot the name) then it might come in handy.
And the following cards are too weak in EDH, or will result in a player targeting you specifically: Last Gasp, Infest, Duress, Nameless Inversion, Raven's Crime, Swat, Dark Ritual
Dark Ritual is really a bad draw for EDH? Damn, I didn't expect that O_o. Nameless Inversion and Last Gasp I run, for cards like Stuffy Doll, which my bro has in his Darigaz, the Igniter deck. All the other kill spells(sans the sacrifice effects) I have in here thus far won't take it out.

Leechridden Swamp couldn't hurt either.
Also, I think a lot of the times, the dark ritual will be a terrible draw. Run a sorin.
So, to clarify here, -1 to Infest, Duress, Raven's Crime, Swat, Dark Ritual, then +5 Swamp? Eventually I'll replace some of those basic swamps with cool non-basics. I could probably fit my Strip Mine and Crucible of Worlds in(it just means I have to move my Crucible from my Rith EDH to this one).
Dark ritual is excellent in mono-black EDH. I think I agree with the Cledwin other than that.
depends. I usually find that 1 time mana boosts are all but useless even in Mono-black. The problem is that they only provide a temporary mana boost. The only deck I would even consider running Dark Ritual or Cabal Ritual in is a Maga, Traitor to Mortals deck as that deck relies on getting a huge Maga out as quickly as possible. That means 1 time Tempo boosts are not as bad in that deck as they are in other decks.

"As the size of an explosion increases, the number of social situations it is incapable of solving approaches zero." -- Varsuvius, Order of the Stick
Well, I played today versus my bro's Jund, and yeah, I see what you guys were saying, Soul Reap and Gloom just have got to go. I just didn't like being stuck with those in my hand, and not being able to do anything versus a Charnelhoard Wurm lock recurring a Terminate to stop me from playing anything. I did have some really terrible draws that game to boot, but that isn't the point. The point is, I didn't like the dead draws those cards brought me.
Updated the list. Looks a bit more solid IMHO. It's also developing a strong theme of forcing card advantage through loss of life(which is Black's strong points anyway). I'm really starting to develop a fondness for this deck already. <3
Well, I played this deck earlier today, versus my bro's Jenara, Asura of War, and my friend's Ashling, the Pilgrim. We only did the one game, but it was this deck that did it. Hell, I only played my General once, and it was for the epic finish(because my bro Crib Swapped my Nightmare). Just played him, equipped Nightmare Lash(that was on the Nightmare before it was exiled), then equipped my Lightning Greaves, and swung with a 15/15 Baron Sengir.
How has this deck been working for you 3drinks? Updated any? I am very interested in Baron Sengir as a general. He made his way into all my decks when I used to play back around Ice Age and was just starting. It would be nice to drag him out again! Is this mostly casual? How does it fair in competitive?

Sorry for not getting back to you, didn't see your post until now haha.
I like the way the deck works just because of the sick card advantage it generates. It trades life for cards, but with a 40 life start, it doesn't matter the life you spend(especially since I do have some means of getting it back, a la Loxodon Warhammer, Corrupt, and Consume Spirit. I recently got a hold of an Eternity Vessel, so if that dropped early, I'd be practically invincible, and have uber CA.)
Yes, this deck is casual(though with the raw CA, I think it could hold it's own in competitive), we don't have nay kinds of EDH tourneys at my shop(shame too, it's a really fun format). The one glaring weakness it does have(which happened to me last time I played), is of course, Iona, Shield of Emeria shuts it out for the most part. There is only a handful of ways Mono-B can deal with her(Duplicant, Nevyrinal's Disk, Altar of Shadows, Arena, or just try to race something like Kalitas, Bloodchief of Ghet out first).
I need to make a few updates to the deck(as soon as I can remember what I added in, lol). It's fun to pilot, and a lot of people won't immediately go after you when they initially see your general, which in theory gives you time to get all of your CA set up.
Well, I played a game versus my brother earlier Thursday, before I went to work. He was using Jenara, Asura of War as his general. Here's how my first couple of turns broke down.
He dropped a story circle on me on like turn...4? Maybe turn 5? Anyway, he never got to use it until I forgot about it and tried Consume Spirit for 8, which he prevented. No problem, next turn I top decked Profane Command and played it for 8 for the win. I think this was turn 7/8 or so. Maybe a few turns more, there were a couple of turns where we didn't do anything. *shrugs*

Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth is un-needed in this deck thus far, but I do plan to get other non-basics in here, like the Cabal Coffers. I'd <3 a Lake of the Dead, that card is leet. Also, I have one Sorin Markov already in here.

All I have to say is this deck generates stupid card advantage. An early Skullclamp is amazing. Skullclamp + Abyssal Gatekeeper = LOL...even more stupid with Grave Pact out <_<.
Of course, if anyone has any questions about how the matches went, fell free to ask. That's what this topic is for.

True, but I was counting Sol Ring as a land, lol(I count Borderposts the same way :p). Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and Shizo, Death's Storehouse are already in the list though.
Graveborn Muse is good; but I don't really have the zombies to set it up effectively. Vampires is my main theme, not Zombies. I have Vampire Nocturnus, Malakir Bloodwitch, and Marsh Flats/Verdant Catacombs, but they're all in my Vampires build in Standard.
Temporal Extortion, eh? I'ma have to look into that. Take half an opponent's life or Time Walk? Yes please.

Lol my bad dude, I'm not used to people suggesting the Legends version of Urborg <_<.
