When the set of commander decks, i wanted initially to make ghave (as he is broke as ****. However, everyone at my store realized this too. I looked at this cool cat and not only was he awesome and unique, but his flavor/background story is cool.

I'll probably post my Skullbriar list in a week or so - I found some of your choices to be sub-par (Sword of War and Peace, Body and Mind for example) and have a lot more control in the deck (all playable discard, targeted destruction, and verdict effects).
I'm testing removing the LD suite I have right now and replacing it with a few more utility creatures and survival of the fittest / fauna shaman (I don't feel like the LD was really doing that much for me).
My curve is definitely lower and tuned for French 1v1 (also fyi vamp tutor and top are banned if you are going for that). I'm just trying to boost my win rate vs blue/white aggro/control (the geist and ga lists in particular, I'm not as worried about zur) so I've put in a few goodies like Great Sable Stag and Thrun.
An interesting way to get -1/-1 counters off Skullbriar: Stitch Together. Also, Volrath's Stronghold. It's more versatile to have instant-speed removal available if playing vs black though, I've killed Skullbriar in response to an opponent's BSZ and that ended up winning me the game. Phyrexian Tower might be something to consider.
the deck doesn't follow the standard duelcommander banlist, mostly because noone in my area plays 1-1, so i have to account to the fact that while this deck is better suited for 1-1 matches, it plays against 3-5 other decks.
i think this is why i still find the other swords acceptable because of the protection from X and Y.

major changes to the deck. so i found that varolz is a much more efficient aggro/combo deck. I decided to tweak this to be more akin to the aggro/control doran style. In which i play efficient creatures that need to be answered and my own high amount of disruption.
removed lotus petal added in golgari signet. lotus petal was cute for turn 1 skullbriar and not really good at much else. i figure another mana rock in its spot should help.
removal package switch up. out comes snuff out, geth's verdict, profane command, smallpox, and the illegal vampiric tutor. in comes dismember which for four life is basically a 1 mana snuff out that can target anything, diabolic edict the 1 life they take is not usually relevant and this makes it easier on mana, vendatta (placeholder for devour in shadow), doom blade (placeholder for go for the throat), and victim of the night. the last three come from reading the forums and conceding that more removal that kills zur, the better off you are.
removed creakwood liege, varolz, and strangleroot geist and added in skinshifter, primeval titan and natural order. skinshifter is similar to putrid leech i feel. and the natural order primeval package is pretty powerful, game winning if unanswered. i never used varolz and if i did it wasn't to the same effect as a dedicated deck would do. plus most of my creatures i want in the yard to return to play not scavenge.
removed most of the equipments; feast and famine, fire and ice, loxodon warhammer and added in more utility sorceries. added grim tutor, duress, and buried alive.
removed pernicious dead and added in deathcloud. destroy and hinders so much more at the price of being on the same turn instead of in parts like dead. however, less playing around from my opponents. with all my creature recurssion this should work to my advantage and assure a win.
removed rancor and berserk. added dark tutelage and seal of primordium. more card draw and removal. not really swinging with skullbriar for the win, as he is often removed or not cast for larger threats.
also, retooled the decklist to be in alphabetical order under each card type section for ease of reading/making changes.

Getting skullbriar out turn 1 seems pretty good to me.
A very nice kill spell for black is Sudden Death. It can kill so many good utility dudes its pretty amazing, also its nigh uncounterable.
