I've been away from MTG for awhile but have recently been drawn back in. I wanted to make a fun budget deck in addition to my competitive one. I see that Izzet doesn't really see a lot of play so I thought I'd put something together.
Below is my take on Izzet control, please let me know what you think.
I think Sage's Row Denizen could have a home in the right Izzet build, with Guttersnipe and Talrand. And I agree with poster above. If you're going for a control type shell you need more counter spells and reactive spells.
That's true. You have just to protect the Guttersnipe to keep your combo. OP has enough counterspells to do that. If that's not enough, Mizzium Skin might help.
Yeah I may try and add the curiosity as it does sound fun,
I was thinking:
-2 Hypersonic Dragon,
-1 Chandra
+1 Runechanter's Pike
+1 Guttersnipe
+1 Talrand
I wonder if Kraken Hatchling would do well in this deck to help stall until either Talrand or Guttersnipe comes into play, I would take out the Goblin Electromancer's as they don't help with the Izzet Charms or Piller of Flame and Auger just seems like a more beneficial 2 drop.
As Phoenix said though,
I will have to playtest more

As always your feedback is appreciated
Izzet Control
3x Goblin Electromancer
3x Guttersnipe
2x Talrand, Sky Summoner
2x Hypersonic Dragon
1x Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius
4x Searing Spear
4x Think Twice
4x Syncopate
4x Izzet Charm
4x Pillar of Flame
4x Izzet Guildgate
4x Evolving Wilds
8x Mountain
7x Island
I haven't put together a sideboard as of yet so suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!
What's the win-con? The burn from Guttersnipe I'd imagine?
Vi Veri Veniversum Vivus Vici.
Yeah the problem I am having is the win-con. A few cards I was considering are Devil's Play, Faithless Looting, Dissipate, and Forbidden Alchemy but they aren't going to win me any games really.
I think Talrand, Guttersnipe, and sometimes Runechanter's Pike would be the game winning cards.
Vi Veri Veniversum Vivus Vici.
It's a fun combo, the sucky part is that they can basically 2-for-1 you if they take out the Guttersnipe.
