I am a UB Zombies player in standard, and hope to hear your thoughts on what direction the deck will take when Scars of Mirrodin block rotates. What lies ahead for the zombies? What do you see when you gaze into the crystal ball?
I have seen Zombies splashed with all colors, and Blue and Red is the most popular splash colors at the moment. Blue is soon without Phantasmal Image, Phyrexian Metamorph, and Darkslick Shores. Red has gained the option of Bonfire of the Damned. Green can offer the strenght of Rancor among other things, and white has Lingering souls and Restoration Angel. All colors can provide us with powerful Sideboard options.
Zombies + Vampires= True?
Most of the latest Zombies lists i have seen lately are infiltrated by a bunch of vampires that create synergy with the Zombies. Blood Artist, Falkenrath Aristocrat, and Bloodline Keeper.
The Bloodthrone Vampire from M13 can act as an aggressive sac outlet for the deck, and running some Cavern of Souls naming Zombies and Vampire will make the deck pretty counterproof.
I belive the Zombie deck is one of the standard competative decks that will suffer least from the rotation of the SOM block. The deck might have a bright future as one of the top decks in tournaments to come, but what those decks will consists of in terms of splash colors, spells and style is unknown. Will the deck move from aggro to a more control style deck?
I am leaning towards the choice between a super aggressive RB build or a slower but powerful BW. Or is there even the possibility of a decent 3 color build? If the manabase can support something like that.
Anyway. Enough rambling from me, let me know what your thoughts are on the future of Zombies.
all were losing is dismember and one set of blue black lands well be fine going into the future.

I've felt the urge to make similar threads, but until they start spoiling Rav it's just pointless speculation. I do agree that zombies, along with humans, should stay strong after rotation.
Yea, I wouldn't bother speculating if/how the deck will survive after rotation. I've been playing this game since Onslaught and every rotation people start up threads/discussions like this and it's truly pointless until we see what Ravnica has. Just keep playing the deck amigo and don't worry about rotation until September.

Point taken. I guess we'll have to wait and see what ravnica has in store for us, but nevertheless there is so many different approaches to the Zombie deck these days that i can't help but wonder wich one has a future when you lay down some of the new M13 cards that can provide zombies with more alternatives.
Like, what do you think of Bloodthrone Vampire ? This card together with Gravecrawler will provide you with a 11/11 Vampire with only four black mana available. If you have a blood artist and a captain in play, well then the opponent has lost 10 life before even attacking. Bloodthrone Vampire has the same cost as artist, and might fill the two drop slot well, and help create a nice curve.
I'm looking at Bloodthrone Vampire as a 1-of in Pod. The problem is the glut at the 2-drop slot. Gloom Surgeon is still a card. Butcher Ghoul is synergistic with Pod and Messenger. Blood Artist has to be 4-of. So what gets cut? I'm running a version without Diregraf Ghoul already, so I don't have any of those left to cut. Four Messengers and four Metamorphs (which turn into Clone post-rotation when I have to go back to UB) can't be touched. I've got three Aristocrats and two Conscripts, so I could cut one of those, or go down to just one Surgeon (for games when I need a partially-indestrucable wall that bites back), but I'm just not sure that Bloodthrone makes the deck.
Maybe that's the answer. Move Surgeon to the board and maindeck Bloodthrone. And then my increasingly-inaccurately named Zombie Pod deck gets yet more vampires.
And speaking of cards to consider bringing in, what about Xanthrid Gorgon? She's an interesting 1-of at the top of the Pod chain, and an equally interesting 1 or 2-of in UB or BR. I'm definitely going to try her in Pod. Anyone else looking at this card?

Well I think we have to look at what new duals we'll have (shocks or not). You can't make a black deck with a splash of another color with only 4 duals.
The black guilds in RtR are golgari and rakdos. B/r zombie decks are not going to lose much more than the metamorphs and we'll have to see what green can bring to the deck.
Rancor and Ulvenwald Tracker will be nice.
I really wish orzhov was in the 1st set so we can get restoration angel and o-ring.
Rotation talk is useless because none of it matters unless we know what is in RtR. The only real loss is pod and blue images. B/r Zombies is almost untouched.
That seems like a ripoff. Why would anyone play that when the next spell you cast will make your opponents draw a bunch of cards? It does not even look good for mill decks.
We should be getting a G/B dual land in next set. I would love to see B/g zombies be a deck, with rancor and all. Too bad w/b land is likely not coming until Gatecrash, w/b zombies would be something I'd play if the mana wasn't terrible. Lingering Souls and Restoration Angel would be the nuts.

Bu zombies is dead until we get Dimir and their dual land in Gatecrash.
So we will have to see if Bg zombies will be better than Br zombies.
