Do you think this card has a home in our sideboard for some control matchups? It comes down turn 1 and can equip and start hitting hard with an Abolisher on turn 3. Plus it has great reach and synergy with most of our deck.

Wow, I just tried it out and it worked pretty well. I just replaced 4 CoTP with 4 Silver-Inlaid Daggers. They're very nice b/c they aren't as easily removed and can do the same job as Champ (that is getting in massive damage).
Best part of the game was having an Honor out with a mirran crusader and dagger and I top deck an angelic destiny. There is something very satisfying about swinging with a 10/3 Mirran Crusader that words can't describe, lol!

dagger can get by control on the draw though and its +3 is pretty decent, it also hurts our tempo less then a sword AND it can be played turn 3 along with a two drop.
Why exactly do we have to go to a separate budget discussion section to talk about utility-versus-cost? That kind of comment is super relevant in a "single card discussion" thread, and really helpful for newer players who are weighing their options. This prohibition strikes me as a really counter-productive. Why would you spread the discussion out over multiple forums where can nobody can follow it, especially when the forum subdivisions already make this the most context-specific place?
I see that there's a budget discussion thread, but it's very general and all-inclusive whereas this thread is only about the dagger.
I play 1 SID main board and 1 SFF. I really like the SID because it's great tempo card. It can be played turn 1 or 2 easily if you have a bad draw. Put it on any human and it makes em killers. Put it on a Mirridian and it turns him into a beast - cheap and effective.
Are swords better - yes if you can get the equiped, which is usually turn 5-6, which is usually where we are winning the game or our opponentns are turning it in their favor.
I was going to cut them, but after this week's FNM they're definitely staying in. Control never wants to waste a counter on them, but once they stick you can slap them onto some seemingly innocuous creature - particularly Elite Inquisitor - and produce a genuine threat from something small. That way Mirran Crusader and Hero of Bladehold have a lot less work to do when they finally make it onto the board.
Also the 1cmc lets you squirt them out early, which is huge.
So in the process of trying to acquire 4x CoTP, I could probably use SID as a substitute? It seems like it fills the 1drop better and doesn't instantly eat removal like CoTP does because players want to stop him from becoming too large and unmanagable.
I see the disadvantage being you can't give the dagger to a Spirit token and have it work out the same way as a SoFF or SoWP
COTP getting chumped from shock or any other removal is not a bad thing. It takes that spell our of their hand for your other guys. He's a have to deal with threat with us. He usually never gets big, but if he does, watch out.
Ok, after further testing I think this might not be the most optimal card. Its problem is it really shines against control. But we already have a good matchup against control. Having the extra body (I.e. CoTP) is probably better against every other deck.

thinking of playing 2x SID and 2x SoWaP mainboard...seems like running all of our first strike cards, such as thalia, guardian of thraben, elite inquistor and mirran crusader that they would be killing machines with the dagger attached...
thalia = 5/1 first strike
inquisitor = 5/2 first strike with vigilance
crusader = 5/2 double strike
with an HotP out, you can take down any of the titans...
The problem I see with this is what would you take out? CotP is so crucial to this deck IMO. If they do not deal with him he can just steal games away by himself as he grows. If they do deal with him that means they are using removal that now they don't have for your Hero or Mirran.

I'm not sure what you were planning on cutting to run it, but I'd run Angelic Destiny, Honor of the Pure and Sword of Feast and Famine first.
I'd rather run Gideon's Lawkeeper and Doomed Traveler in the 1-drop spot and drop Honor of the Pure T2 (and have been).

[edit] No disrespect, I'm seriously curious
