Aside from pricing, I really enjoyed Modern Masters 1 and was really hoping for a Modern Masters 2 this Spring/Summer. Do you think the advent of the Modern Event deck was designed to fill this void or WOTC might surprise us and release a Modern Masters 2 prior to year's end?

Got it. It seems like they like to do at least one special set a year from what I've been reading. Do you think then that Modern Event deck is our "Special Set" for the year from WOTC or that they might still have something for us (Modern Masters 2 aside)?

They openly stated they didn't want to increase circulation of cards by more than a fraction, and I don't think that will change...and right now, there are only 3 modern legal blocks that are not standard legal that weren't in MM1, and if I have this correct, MM1 was 7 blocks...
I wouldn't expect MM2 for at least 5 years, but we MIGHT see a very limited (yes, even moreso than the first time) reprint of MM1...
I hope we get more than just a modern event deck, but if the MSRP of this thing is $75, you can imagine it will have a least a couple fetchlands along with some other great cards. I mean, MM1 MRSP was 168, and each box was worth 200+ on the secondary market if you bought the singles, so we will most likely wee 100+ dollars worth of cards in the event deck, which means it might also cost more than 75 however.
I think we will see a MM2 a lot sooner than 5 years. Considering the card pool available there are a LOT of Modern popular cards that could still be printed in comparison to the 200 something we got in MM. On top of that, if they really want to push Modern as a format I would bet we see a second edition by 2016.

I will always firmly stand by the belief that Magic is a game first and a collectable second.

First, there are actually 5 blocks (Zendikar, Scars of Mirrodin, Innistrad, Return to Ravnica, and Theros, which will be finished before MM2 would come out). They could also reprint some more cards from before Zendikar that weren't reprinted, reprint cards from before Modern that would become part of the Modern card pool, or create new cards that would become Modern-legal.
If they did go through and do another limited print run of Modern Masters, do you think there would be any public notice or would some supplies suddenly just have more in stock?

Yes, but two of those are currently standard legal. If they wanted to reprint 7 blocks in MM2 that are 4 blocks removed from the current block, they would have to reprint it in 6 years...

I'm guessing that it will be up to Theros and that it will be in 2015. No one said that it would have to be 7 blocks. There are still a bunch of expensive/played cards in Modern that could have been reprinted in Modern Masters but weren't. I think that those will be reprinted in MM2. Also, the switch to yearly core sets added to the number of sets, so even if we did follow your logic it would only be 4 or 5 years. And as I said, I can always hope for new cards/previously not Modern-legal reprints to fill the space that would be empty if MM2 happened in 2015.
Demand mostly matched the printed cards, so they might not mind releasing a similar amount again. They will likely take a very careful and incremental approach to reprints, as the threat of another reserved list if they overprint is just too damaging. Meaning several staggered and small printings of the same MM can make perfect sense.
Wizards is a sluggish beast. They respond...but slowly. The success of Modern Masters ensures a Modern Masters 2...but in time. I expect you won't see it for at least 2-3 years. Same thing with a reprint of fetches in a block. They'll probably coincide. Heh.
The Modern event deck is a step in the right direction. Now all we need is a Modern Game Day...
My bet is that Modern Masters 2 comes out in the summer of 2015.
There's not reason for them to wait any longing given how well the first Modern Masters did. In addition, there should be plenty of possible reprints from Zendikar to now (like Fetches, Goblin Guide, Snapcaster Mage, Liliana of the Veil, Geist of Saint Taft, etc), so they probably won't even print many of the same cards from the first Modern Masters.
Then, now I'm really speculating, Modern Maters 3 comes out in the summer of 2017. This one may possibly have Tarmogoyf, Dark Confidant, and other similar cards again.

And I'm even more certain that they pushed MM2 from 'maybe in 5 years' to 'Definitely and as soon as possible' once they saw sales figures for MM.
I expect MM2 somewhat soon, and for it to have Tarmogoyf again (but not every big card from MM).
Plus they are doing Vintage Masters on MTGO this summer.
