I haven't followed how mechanics have worked in previous sets. Does anyone know whether or not there will be new mechanics, or is it all just bestow and monstrous?
By default they will add to existing mechanics, while slipping in a new mechanic or two over the whole block. However as both follow up sets are small sets I doubt we'll see much added. There isn't a storyline reason to drop any of the mechanics (like Avacyn Restored dropped DFC), at least as far as I know, so the mechanics we have should stay put.
MaRo hinted at something different with Enchantments, so I expect to see that. Also, Bestow hasn't been used enough, so I'd expect to see more of that, too. Scry they can (and have) just tacked onto pretty much any card, so I'm sure they'll be some more of that, and heroic and monstrous will probably still show up, but in lower quantities than in Theros.
There are always new mechanics each set nowadays. Even small sets. Dark ascension had undying for example while innistrad did not. Avacyn restored had miracles.
So yes, new mechanics in the next set is pretty much a lock likely in addition to the mechanics in theros as well as repeats (probably more monstrous stuff in the next set and such.)

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
I might see them get rid of Bestow for set three, as I think it has the least design space, in terms of all the stupid restrictions they've set for themselves with it.
Heroic and Monstrosity could still become a bit better, with more unique effects.
Devotion is going to stay even if for the 10 multicolour gods.
They simply have to cut one of them for Nyx. You can't have a small set with 7 mechanics, they've been through Dragon's Maze and it tends to make all of them seem so insignificant.
10 guilds with 10 separate mechanics =/= 5 mechanics, 3 of which are specific to cards/card types.
They could make it work. I mean, look at Monstrous, it got the least amount of cards in Theros, whereas all the other mechanics got probably 3-4x more than it did.
This is the first block since Scars to actually be a normal Big-Small-Small set-up for the block, so they could fit whatever they wanted into the second and third sets.
In the same way you can tell someone is from the XVIII century because he is arroused by ankles, you can tell someone is from USA because he feels nipples disturbing.

Enchantment Creature/Artifact is a connection of the Gods/Divine to the realm of Theros, if any one mechanic would NOT be cut when ENTERING THE DOMAIN of the Divine it's the one directly attached to the concept. (For those not reading the Top Down in there, Bestow and Devotion are pretty much locked into the rest of the set unless something big and storyline happens to undo them.)
DGM was not really a set to itself, as it was an addendum to the previous two sets. As a Small set on the end of two Large sets, so it was heavily wrapped up in the card types of the previous sets. Far more likely we'll get a new mechanic in BNG and that won't translate over into Nyx. Also Scry might not stick around specifically as it wasn't a Design mechanic it was a Development mechanic.
Even though there are five keywords in Theros I'd be shocked if there weren't a new mechanic in both Born of the Gods and Journey into Nyx. Born of the Gods's keyword will probably represent the demigods the name implies and Journey into Nyx's... well, I got nothing.

DFC was also dropped for AVR because it was a large set, and it was designed to be drafted on its own. Pretty much like Rise of the Eldrazi, where they did the same thing. However, AVR got undying carrying over while ROE didn't. GTC did the same thing too, btw. It didn't have any RTR mechanics, being a second big set in a block.
So, like you said, it is unlikely that a mechanic will be dropped.
I'm still hoping for Aura Swap (but I doubt they would use it in Theros, since it doesn't work with bestow enchantments)
Aura Swap is hilariously broken. Were never seeing it, or if we do, it'll be on horribly overpriced cards. Otherwise you get Eldrazi Conscription on like turn three.

What seems more likely than any of them being dropped entirely, looking at previous Large-Small-Small blocks, is that all five mechanics will be present in the final block, but at a much lower level for at least some of them. It's possible they'll drop whatever the middle set introduces, but I think it'll also be there, just reduced.
I am kind of amazed at [...] the fact that somebody on this thread called Mind's Eye, Mirari's Wake, Decree of Pain, Desertion, AND Scroll Rack, all before they were officially spoiled. I will edit this post VERY shortly with the username of this user who deserves at least all of the cookies. Probably more cookies than that.
