Small change to the mana base, as it turns out I don't actually have an Arid Mesa. I slotted in a Warped Landscape instead, but I was wondering what the consensus is on this land. Is it good enough, or would I be better off throwing in a basic or something else?
Those are pretty good suggestions. I followed a lot of them, which brought me down to 99 cards. I removed Tymna the weaver as well, but I'm still debating that choice.
So far I left in the Knights of the Black Rose and Marshal's Anthem. I feel the knights are very appropriate and might do some work, and I don't feel it's wise to cut more dudes. That's open for change though.
The Anthem however, has really saved my ass in the past, and I'd like to hear your thoughts as to why you think it should be cut?
As i said, I'm down to 99, which gives me an open slot. I'm also down to 26 creatures, and I have this feeling, that I'd like to stay around 30. I'm considering the following creatures:
This deck is built on the ashes of my Mardu-Knights tribal, which was honestly trash.
I've tried to stay on theme, which has led to having mostly Knights, Soldiers and Clerics, most of which are Humans, which created a great new tribal synergy.
This means, that any monsters and cards that can't be pushed into the mold have been removed.
The deck should be able to get and keep the Monarch pretty consistently, but won't be adverse to letting it go to keep others squabbling for it, only to get it back when it can be defended.
Included is a pretty solid Sunforger package, which should be able to help us in most circumstances.
Otherwise, the strategy is to survive until at least one opponent has left the game, as we will be hard pressed to take down all three. Then going in for the kill.
So far, there are 104 cards in the deck. I'm having a hard time cutting the last, which won't be a surprise for most deckbuilders. Any suggestions towards this would be greatly appreciated.
Actually, as I understand the rules of EDH, it wouldn't be terrible and you would be able to play it in any deck.
The name of the basic land type 'forest', 'mountain' , etc, does not denote color identity. In fact, all basic lands are colourless.
To push the example further, you can have a mono-black general, with nothing but mountains in the build.....they all produce colourless according to EDH rules.
Am I right with this line of thinking?
I will agree in that having basic lands outside of your general's color identity isn't very thematic.
No. While they ARE colorless, their color identity matches that of the mana they produce.
It's a good idea, but man, you're walking on thin ice. A lot of people might be really offende by both the very concept, but also your interpretations.
But I'm looking forward to see where you end up.
Honestly, at best this is a niche card. It really only works well when someone is playing lots of protection.
You are swinging with, say, Thundermaw Hellkite, and have a just played Goblin creature, doesn't really matter what, just some red critter that has no reach, no flying, just sits there on the ground. The person has a little bitty 1/1 Bird Token, a Mother of Runes, and only 4 life, but you only have 1. He declares the Bird as a blocker, and taps Mom to give the bird protection from Red in order to keep it alive, so he can swing with it next turn to kill you.
You then cast Alter Reality, and change the color of your Hellkite to Green. The bird does not have protection from Green, so now it will die to the Hellkite's charge, saving your life for the next turn, and then you can swing with the Hellkite for the win on your next turn.
It can also save a green creature from Deathmark or Doomblade by making it black.
Simply put, the spell is designed to get around protection or limited spells that can only target certain colors, and is very limited in usefulness.
This entire post is wrong. Do not try to use it this way. It cannot change the color of cards. It can only change the word. To save your green creature from the Deathmark, you would target Deathmark itself, changing the word "non-black" to "non-green".

Aw man, so much nostalgia! I played the hell out of those cards. My very first encounter with Magic
I run a Bant-colored Enchantress-style deck, and I think, that as long as you have the requisite protection and recursion, Enchantments are the way to go. You need to build your deck around it, if you want to rely on them, though.
The enchantresses really do a lot to make it better.
Looking good, by the way.

Perhaps Cho-Manno, Revolutionary, or Eight-And-A-Half-Tails for a Jesus-type figure. Perhaps Crovax, Ascendant Hero, if you're looking to go more Old Testament.
