I'm not sure if anyone else has tried it, but I'm still loving my BG Enchantress build (I posted the list a while back... it uses Cadaverous Bloom). It's much more combo-y than prison-y, though there's still the Elephant Grass to stall. Brain Maggot has been an all star for me. Hardcasting Emrakul as soon as turn 2 and frequently by turn 3 is pretty great, and paired with Pharika that's 20 damage swinging in on the extra turn. If that won't do it I can Living Wish for Craterhoof instead and just attack with huge Enchantresses and Maggots, which I find amusing. I'd love to see someone with more play skill than I have take a run with it. In any case, I'm seriously considering it for GP NJ in November...because shenanigans are fun.
So I got a match in against Reanimator and went 1-2 with my GB Enchantress - Had I had Ulamog in the Sideboard as I planned I think I win the match, but he had Archon in play in games 2 and 3 and without Ulamog I had no way to actually remove it. Ooops. Also Tendrils as suggested above would have done it. To be fair these were all non-sideboarded matches, and I've got four Leyline of the Void in the sideboard, so I think that match might be favorable overall. Dare I take this thing to an SCG open in a few weeks? I just might.
Here's where I'm at so far. I got in three games against a pretty good UB Tezzeret deck, and though I only went 1-2 in the games, I probably should have gone 2-1. In game three when going off the opponent had the Sword/Thopter combo on board, but was tapped out with 8 1/1s one of which had the sword equipped. Had I Wished for Craterhoof after running out my deck (4 Enchantress, an Eidolon I'd wished for to get ramping, three Maggots and Pharika) I think I would have had enough non-summoning sick trample power with +10/+10 to run over the Thopters. So that was clearly a play error on my part. Also if I had any Tendrils yet that would have done the trick too.
Of note - all three games included some manner of disruption coming at me - Force, Chalice of the Void, etc. I need to find more people with Legacy decks to test against, hopefully tomorrow at FNM I can find a couple competitive decks. So far I like it though
I could see having a Tendrils in there as a second win-con in case they have Ensnaring Bridge or some such thing - though I'm planning on having an Ulamog in the sideboard for destroying problem permanents, and wishing for him and Emrakul should be doable if I'm going off anyway.
Yep, all about the fast Cadaverous Bloom - that's the thing that makes hardcasting Emrakul a cinch. With CB on the field along with an enchantress effect or two you can throw away a card to get two green or black mana, play an enchantment, draw more, and eventually have a hand with 10+ cards...pitch 9 cards for 18 green mana, Wish for Emrakul, poof. It's actually easier, in my limited testing, than trying to cast Emrakul off Sanctum.
Goldfish 3, 4, 5, 8, 4, 3 (turns on which Emrakul is hardcast).
I could see Leyline/Helm being main board too definitely. Again, as I haven't played any real games it might just fold to any kind of disruption, but in Magical Christmas Land that's what Brain Maggot is for. Besides, who doesn't want to slam that down on the table and say BRAIN MAGGOT! Add that to the 'pros' list above
Edit: If I'm figuring it right a turn 2 Emrakul is technically possible, though probably extremely unrealistic.
So I'm playing around with a version of Dark Enchantress (GB) and, at least in goldfishing, it's kinda nutty. I plan on some testing with my proxied up version (as I don't want to disassemble my current GWr version yet) and see if it's remotely viable. Keep in mind too that some numbers may change as this is a very rough early version.
Yes, this may be a terrible deck, I just don't know yet so I won't make grandiose claims. I will say though that Brain Maggot gives us an enchantment version of Thoughtseize that costs all of one more mana - an enchantment that lets us know the coast is clear before casting Living Wish - an enchantment that makes sure they don't have anything to disrupt us. Between those little buggers and Pharika (who after spewage will be an active threat) you'll have twenty-plus damage to swing with on your Emrakul extra turn.
Pros:
-Seems to be much faster than the standard Enchantress lock
-Sideboard Leyline of the Void for the grave hate
-Thoughtseize?
Cons:
-Might be more easily disruptable
-a few more non-enchantments than typical builds, so potential to start going off only to fizzle
Proxy it up or goldfish a couple games with your favorite program of choice - it's at least a fun idea. In practice...dunno yet... but it feels decent. Maybe you don't want the Dark Rituals, but between those and the Chrome Mox you can hit a very fast Cadaverous Bloom (should that be 4 of?) and from there, barring bad luck, it should be just a matter of playing by yourself until you get Emrakul mana or your opponent wanders off.
Originally main deck Leyline was a meta decision - I was sick of the locals Thoughtseizing/Hymning away my hand before I could get rolling, so yeah, it was sort of my middle finger to the local decks. That said, I've found it's rare that it's completely dead and I was siding it in so often that why not. It randomly hoses so many things - any Planeswalker that targets me, discard (which there's a lot of in Legacy), burn, a number of edict effects. I guess as I've so rarely sided it out in a match that it's fine staying in the main. I don't fault anyone for disagreeing on that though. Just fun when that opponent says "you main deck that?" with those sad eyes that tell you Leyline just hosed most of their hand.
Chrome Mox... I'm still on the fence. As you can see from my list I've got a one-of Exploration as well. I haven't had enough play time with either of them to really know yet if I want to keep them.
So I've gone and cut GSZ for the Exploration, trimmed the sideboard to where I think it's okay (cut Wheel of Sun and Moon as I have never boarded it in) and so far I'm pretty much liking where I'm at with the deck. Granted that's only a few games since adding the Exploration in - but I think it and the Chrome Moxen can help speed me up a little bit since when I lose, I usually lose because I'm one turn too slow on getting my pieces in place. Going to the SCG Open next weekend in Somerset, and I'll either be running this or my Tezzeret deck... I'm torn between the two, and it'll probably come down to a game day decision.
Question regarding Solitary/Leyline and Planeswalkers... Let's just say I had a Planeswalker in Enchantress... With Leyline out I can't be burned and have that burn redirected to a walker - correct? With Solitary out can my walker be attacked, even though I would take no damage if I were attacked? Just curious... outside Garruk Wildspeaker or maybe Kiora I don't see a walker to fit this deck yet.
I had to work and couldn't make the prerelease, but I bought an extra pre-release pack that was available at the store, and got me a Pain Seer and a Kiora for my troubles. Pity too, would have been a nice BUg deck out of that pool.
Makes sense to me. Mine is more of the prison style build (though I do have a one-of Helm and RiP in the board as an alternate win...). It'll be interesting to see how much of that 3/1 draw-hate-bear gets played in Legacy. Probably some since even Notion Thief sees fringe sideboard slots, but it's not like we don't have a variety of answers for a 3/1 guy - enchantment removal of our own, ping it with Words of War (I assume that would take our regular draw step to do, but whatever...ping it then go nuts), O-ring, etc.
On the Gitaxian Probe - I think it's fine for more of the dedicated RiP/Helm versions so they can see if it's safe to move in on the combo.
Not much hope left for Born of the Gods to bring us new toys... I too was hoping the Green/White god would be a present for us. Still holding a minimal hope that the rumored g/w Ajani might be an enchantment themed walker in the way Tezz is for artifacts. Eh, fingers crossed.
Yes yes...I know that's more than a 15 card sideboard. That's where I feel like I'm a little unfocused. I'd like the Mindbreaks to give me a chance against fast combo. I like the RiP/Helm just as an extra win-con that works a surprising amount of the time that I board it in. Emrakul is there for the added something against Show and Tell. I dunno. Very open to suggestions all around.
I only recently added the Chrome Mox in. I like the speed up I've seen in testing so far, though I'm not committed to it until I've gotten more games in.
Expired Rascals: Sounds like a similar experience to my own. Was that guy considering deck-checking you because of the maindeck Leyline? Also, what are your thoughts on the Chrome Mox/Mox Diamonds in your list? I don't have any of those myself, but wondering if they are worth looking into.
