50$ draft with top 3 of our modern league having a free entry since we contributed 1$ each player each week since a few months, and up to top 8 will have reduced prices...
50$... draft... and they're selling the box at 360...
Yeah... I'm top 3 in the league, after that... **** off...
I think it's in their interests to keep deck prices higher than Standard because otherwise, what would be the point ?
If Modern cost only 200-300$ more than Standard for the best decks, why would new players play Standard ? Just put 100$ more on your deck and you'll have to keep it forever ! (unless it gets banned...)
They want to keep the prices high, but still far from Legacy ones.
They have been making LD appropriate to the format. Acidic slime, tectonic edge, fulmintor mage, and goblin ruinblaster have all seen play in their time in standard.
By Stone Rain I mostly meant a LD card that is better than Craterize or Demolish, it can be any good LD card like Fulminator Mage, which might have been a good card to reprint in RTR imo.
But my point was mostly for 1 good LD will not make a deck dedicated to that strategy 100% like Pox can be in Legacy.
How does 4 Stone Rain may make a deck a "LD.dec" ? Especially since Snappy will rotate out soon.
1 LD card wouldn't make a deck oppressive on that regard, printing 2-3 good LD cards "would".
Maybe a "Destroy target land, then exile ~"
Just saw someone saying he had the 2 Visionaries, my bad.
Intruder Alarm is not necessarily for an alpha strike. It lets you tap your elves for mana and untap them all, making more and more mana quicker, that's what made me be able to cast my Emrakul in one of my games, and I'll still try it again. I won't base my deck on what people here says, I'll try it myself first, but I'll keep an eye on this thread, good ideas are bound to happen when you are more than 1 to find solutions !
We pretty much had the same problem with Tron. They had sweepers to early for us to catch on. I think instead of Nature's Claims we can play Beast Within so that we can get rid of Karn that way also.
I had a game that I had nothing else to do in that specific turn and I just played a second intruder alarm
But those stack, So you can play a creature and it triggers, in response tap your elves for mana, then triggers again, then in response, tap again.
The greatest thing that happened to me is curio and intruder alarm in play with heritage + 2 mana dorks, with Beck active and elvish visionary in hand.
I haven't thought about the triggers stacking but still it makes it awkward to have many in hand when you want to go asap.
I might try Beast Within, it's not like we care about the 3/3.
I need to change my sideboard a lot, will include Leyline of Vitality and some sort of Hexproof card like Ranger's Guile or Simic Charm and the always useful Abrupt Decays and Nature's Claims'
Went to our weekly Modern league yesterday, had much less people there because of good weather and hockey playoffs, we were 11.
First round: R/G Tron 0-2
Lost miserably both games to Pyroclasms and better draws in both games.
Sided in 2 Negate for Karn and 2 Nature's Claims
Second round: Boros aggro 2-1
He isn't really used to play against Elves so he was killing my mana dorks instead of Heritage Druids, won my 2 games with Ezuri's ability activated once or twice. Lost my only game to beatings and Bolts to the face.
Third round: 4C Good multi-color stuff (weird but good brew) 2-1
Lost first game to good draw and good play.
Second game is where it made my like Intruder Alarm.
I had a winning board, and I had to pay for my Summoner's Pact, leaving me with 4 mana tapped.
Still had an Heritage Druid and 2-3 more elves and an Intruder Alarm with some elves in my hand, Beck and Emrakul.
I chain elves while we have a Deathrite battle going on with the untap shenanigans, tapping elves for mana and untapping them to the others I drew, make enough mana, cast Emrakul and win.
In the third game, same thing. Tap / Untap but without Beck I believe. I had to cast 2 Summoner's Pact, one for Visionary and the second one for Regal Force into Emrakul.
Forth round: Boggles 0-2
Welp, boggles does what it does, second game wasted a Nature's Claims on Pithing Needles on Heritage Druid.
Overall satisfying. I have some REALLY bad matchups in my meta, I will clearly need to make them better in my 75.
What's good about Intruder Alarm is the fact that you only need Heritage Druid, 2 other Elf and a Beck active or a hand full of elf with big stuff instead of Heritage Druid + 2x Nettle Sentinel + 2 Elvish Visionary. I'll keep trying it because so far when it has been active, it was great. I might go down to 2 tho, since when there is one on board, the others in your hand are awkward.
edit: ninja'd

But they give 2 box total as price.

I noticed that too. Wondering if it's just a re-copy mistake or just fake.

WoTC doesn't make more money off a box at 300 or 500. They'd make more money printing more boxes, not by making the price higher than MSRP.
We do not know what's left to be spoiled...
