I'm just saying that it seems like, for some people, only two types of cards exist: trash and broken. I understand wanting the game to be balanced, but what I don't understand is that for some people, nothing will make them happy. They will complain about everything that is spoiled, make a lot of noise, then they will buy large quantities of the set and wait for the next spoiler season so that they can do it all over again.
Just popped in to say, you should change your screen name to LoneVoiceOfReasonGuy.
They're actually pretty decent. They both need a few unlocks and swaps before they're really good, but starting out I found both decks to be both fun and powerful enough to win.
I do seem to get mana screwed with the Orzhov deck WAY more than normal. Probably just variance, but it's really noticeable.
the gruul deck needs some freaking ramp. BAD. I have to mulligan hands with nothing but 5-drops all the time, but when I get a curve-y hand it owns face.
I did a quick search and got nothing, so here goes:
Anyone have a link for alters of Oversized cards, like the foils that come in Arsenal and Commander decks? I'm looking for either a how-to or just examples of alters.
In short, I'm trying to find a use for all my oversized foils. People just keep *****ing about how worthless they are, and I agree - but instead of howling in impotent rage, I'd like to turn the ones I have into something I can use, instead of gathering dust in a corner.
Why do people insist upon throwing around these ridiculous $400 figures? The set costs $75, and anyone who pays attention to this forum and isn't lazy had absolutely no trouble finding it for that price unless there is literally 0-1 LGS within a 20 mile radius of them.
That is absolutely not true. I have personally been to every LGS within 1 HOUR's drive of my home - six total, and have not been able to place a pre-order yet.
I can't be bothered to do the other 8, because in the whole of Magic there are probably at least 40 cards that all make VERY strong cases to be "top 18", but I could spend countless hours arguing with myself about which 9 to pick, and what order to rank them in...
At the end of all of that wasted time, though, there is exactly one certainty; one factor in which I already know the outcome before ever performing the exercise: that no matter how many dozens and dozens of revisions my list would inevitably go through, the only card that would absolutely stay cemented in its spot, never budging through all the shifting and shuffling and swapping, is Tolarian Academy, the "Tenth piece of Power".
Hmm... I'd ban everything that's currently banned, except for:
Kokusho, the Evening Star
Gifts Ungiven
Protean Hulk
Then, I'd ban Jokulhaups.
Reasoning:
Kokopuffs - He's probably getting unbanned anyway, and is likely the least fun-wrecking card on the list. I see why it was banned, but the landscape of EDH has changed to make Koko's banning fairly pointless.
Gifts Ungiven - I played the **** out of Gifts before it got the banhammer and it was never, ever degenerate in my group. I'm the only player in my regular group who is "tryhard" enough to actually do the things with Gifts that got it banned - and yet I managed to resist the temptation to do so when it was legal. I'm fully aware of how degenerate this card CAN BE, but when it was legal neither I nor my group ever pushed it anywhere near that hard.
Protean Hulk - Exact same scenario as Gifts. I played this right up until it got the banhammer, and was truly bummed when it did. It's such a great card, but unfortunately SOME people liked to exploit it a little too much, and THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS! It was always just slightly overpowered in my group, but easily on par wtih Consecrated Sphinx/Prime Time/Etc, without being worse than any of those.
Additional Input:
Survival of the Fittest would be on my watch list. I love the card. I mean I REALLY love it. I hope it never gets banned IRL. But if it does I'd be hard pressed to argue. It's one of the most broken tutors in the format.
Recurring Nightmare - Another card I love dearly, but I sadly concede that it truly belongs on the banned list. Especially if Kokusho and Protean Hulk came off the list. Oh and Survival... basically this card and Survival should never EVER be legal at the same time.
Worldfire - This card is a huge no-no for EDH, but it also pretty much screams anti-social to most players. Not too many people would see Worldfire and fail to realize the inherent un-fun-ness of the card, so I see it as one of those self-regulating cards that can stay unbanned because only tryhards would ever think to use it. That said, the second it started to wrinkle even a few feathers it'd get the banhammer like woah.
And, with that, this FTV releease is officially "the stone cold nuts" or whatever Foresythe predicted it would be. Still hoping for Wasteland, but if that doesn't happen, Maze of Ith + Vesuva are more than adequate to get my $$$.
There's no law saying you can't switch them between decks depending on what you're using.
Yes, there is! It's the law of "I'm lazy and swapping cards is a pain in the rear". Seriously, though I do need another Stronghold, but I can do without it.
Turns out I don't have Tortured Existence... closest thing I can find is Haunted Crossroards, but that's really not that great.
In the meantime, I DID find a single Living Wish, so I can get some wishboard action going. I moved Doomgape to the Wishboard to make room for the Wish itself, and I'm doubling up on a few of my singletons for redundancy sake, and add a few more silver bullets. Duplicant will be going in, but I don't know what else I should have room for 3 or 4 undecided slots... any tips?? Obviously I'm looking for creatures with EtBF effects...
Why the singleton Darkheart? Either add more Slivers in your colors or take him out.
Darkheart: the fact that he's a sliver is irrelevant - I needed a cheap life-gainer. I was going to run Ravenous Baloth, but he gains me 4 life for 4 mana, and is just Green. Darkheart gets me 3 life for 2 mana, and is G/B so he triggers Savra. I don't need more slivers - I can re-use him multiple times over.
Tortured Existence is a neat idea, though. I will see if I have any.
Now, here are some ground rules - I don't want to add any other colors, not even Squee. I want to be able to actually cast anything I might need to, if I don't get Nightmare online. That's about it. I want to keep it firmly in Golgari territory, and I want it to have some Multiplayer viability.
I like the list as is, but I'm iffy on it. I have yet to battle-test it, but goldfishing has revealed some awkward draws. It can get really broken draws too, but if I don't get Fauna Shaman or Nightmare online quickly, it flounders.
Oh, and the 4x Maelstrom Pulse is pretty key to stopping certain decks in my very close-knit meta. Tokens get out of hand sometimes, be they Elf, Insect, Wolf or Ally (and a slew of others). I could just run Damnation, but I wanted to also be able to take out Pwalkers or O-Rings too. Pulse fits this niche perfectly.
Any input is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.
(PS, I do not have Vengevines, else they'd be in, dur!)

I have a 250-card "big highlander" that is my main "pimp" project. It got:
Maze of Ith
Urborg
Vesuva
High Market
Murmuring Bosk
I'm considering picking up Ancient Tomb as well, to go along with the foil Temple of the False God I recently traded for.
Meanwhile, I got:
Dryad Arbor
Grove of the Burnwillows
... just to look sexy in my trade binder (and maybe appreciate in value, who knows).
Also, Plagiarize is a pretty funny peice of tech.
Neither of this is a win-con really, but still great ideas in their own right.
Kokusho, the Evening Star
Gifts Ungiven
Protean Hulk

Go WotC. Faith = Restored.

True, but I would rather find creature-based solutions to fit the theme of the deck. The more non-creatures I run the harder it is to function.
Yeah, I'd love to get a Stronghold in here, but I only own one and it's in my Vorosh EDH.

Basically, it's Golgari colors (Black/Green) and looks like thus:
24 Lands
