Hearthstone will be forgotten in 10 years. It's fun, but it's not something you play as much as MTG or as long. It's going to lose it's appeal unless they drastically change the game (instant speed cards for example). Games without a secondary market get outdated very fast. You shall see!
What you guys are asking for (The ones who dont want to pay to play) is a board game. When a game becomes something you purchase and then have to sink no more money into it - thats a board game. Go play the Game of Thrones card game if you want something like that. The reason MTG is so good is because it makes money which causes it to release more sets, have updates, rule changes and keep an active player base for over 20 years.
If tomorrow all magic cards cost 10 cents each and there was no secondary market the game would become a bit like a board game and lose most of its playerbase. Guarateed. Do you know of any card games, board games that have growing popularity after 20 years on the market? Not many...
0 parasites to drain money? If Magic the Gathering was not a collectable card game with value, it wouldn't be half... hell 1/10 as popular as it is now. Hearthstone is fun to play but it's not something Im going to play for 20 years like I have with Magic.
Nothing amazing about being able to build a collection for free. Part of the fun is the value of the cards.
