Alright, hopefully you still check your MTGS account because I finished The Crippled God last night.
Ha! Literally just randomly logged on after someone from salvation jumped on a nexus thread of mine overnight.
Thoughts? It's a long ass journey, but TCG is pretty amazing in my opinion.
Nice coincidence! Yeah, it's long but absolutely worth it. I honestly haven't been that satisfied with a series since I read A Song of Ice and Fire almost a decade ago, which is saying something because I read a lot of books. I'm actually a little worried that Malazan's turning me into a book snob - I tried reading one of Mark Lawrence's (who had been one of my favorite authors for a while) newest entries this summer between TTH and DOD and it was just not doing it for me.
Have you read the rest of the Malazan universe? I worked ICE's books a bit into my first read through of MBOTF, specifically NOK, ROTCG, SW, and OST, and I've read one or Bauchelain and Korbal Broach books, but haven't hit Kharkanas or PTA yet. If so, do you think I should next read Blood & Bone, Dancer's Lament, or Forge of Darkness?
I really appreciate this deck, Deadhouse Gates has probably been my favorite Malazan book thus far.
PS, I'm the guy who commented on your Ur-Dragon deck around a year ago mentioning that I'd just started reading Gardens of the Moon. Well, I'm halfway through The Bonehunters now. I'm loving this series. Keep up the Malazan decks!
The afternoon Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer was spoiled, I knew who was heading up my next deck. He's by far my favorite new commander out of C18, being unique in the fact that he explores a design space shared between red and blue that we've yet to see in the command zone - copying creatures.
Now you might be saying, "But Skorchd, he doesn't actually make copies of things himself!" and you'd be right to say that. He makes a 2/1 Myr with an ability that homogenizes your tokens into being copies of whichever token you think is best. He doesn't actually put a copy on the field like Rite of Replication or Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker, and he can't make your tokens into anything other than copies of another token, but you can explore UR's shared ability to clone things by running the cards that do make token copies and using those token copies to make your favorite target a legion. This strategy takes us down a rabbit hole of design - any old Brudiclad deck may focus solely on getting tokens out there to copy, but we're taking a more complex route. We're aiming to play value creatures that get better when there's a bunch of them, playing cards to copy our favorite value creatures, and then making tons of tokens to use as blank slates for the copies of our value creatures.
So far, I've had a lot of fun with the deck. There was one game I swung eight Wurmcoil Engines at one of my opponents, another where I milled an opponent out with five Fleet Swallowers, and a third where swinging six Utvara Hellkites and creating 36 more 6/6 dragon tokens prompted scoops around the table. It's big, it's explosive, and it's customizable with Brudiclad's design route being super open-ended.
As always, I welcome any suggestions or general feedback.
Yeah, I'm trying to hold myself off from building her own deck and just relegating her to my Jund Dragons build. She works with Panharmonicon and Helm of the Host, so I can't wait to see what becomes of those decks she heads up. Yeah, we've still got three Elders to see, though they're all without red, so I doubt any of them will have a tribal component.
Yep, first time. I'm a big fan of expansive world-building (ASOIAF and Stormlight Archive have been my favorite series) so I heard Malazan would be a good one to start. I dodged your spoiler section, so we're good there. I am very eager to find out where the story goes though from how impressive I've heard it is.

I'm in the middle of reading Gardens of the Moon right now, actually just got to the part where they mentioned Starvald Demelain for the first time.
