+1 is meh, though it is what it is. It could certainly be more powerful, sadly. This ability, I think, is what will make or break chandra in standard -- whether or not the ping will be relevant more often than not in the meta.

This is not a chandra that is going to get slotted in every deck that runs red. Rather I think of it like Domri's +1. Exiling an instant is kinda awkward because you want to save it, but if you're playing a midrange beatdown deck with mostly creatures she's basically a straight CA machine. I'd be really curious to see proxy her up in the sorts of decks that domri sees play in right now and see how she flies.
Ultimate is an ultimate; ironically it plays horribly in the midrange beatdown deck I was just describing. I don't see ever activating this in a game of standard.
A big test for chandra will be whether she can reliably survive her first turn in play. I don't see her +1 being terribly relevant to protect her.
Didn't they also mention they were excluding cards that were under consideration for banning? Could be that Thoughtseize was in that group.
Thoughtseize fits zero criteria that Wizards have set forth for banning cards (format-warping, every deck in ___ color runs it, makes matches take too long). I would say it's a strong contender for M14/Theros.
I see little to zero chance that the keyword "changeling" will be reprinted in a core set. There is slightly more chance that will happen in Theros, but I don't think changeling is a thing that will come back in Standard anytime soon. Its best chance now is probably the next Commander release.
I'm confused. Are the gates/shocks getting reprinted in the actual Dragon's Maze set, or just the guild packs? The wording of the article makes it sound like the former, but the context of the statement makes it sound like the latter. Everything in the article is about the pre-release, so it seems like it would be random to make an announcement about the contents of the actual set. I think they're just giving us more fixing for purposes of the prerelease.

So, I would assume each creature discards itself to give some attribute of itself to an attacking creature. Like, a trample creature that can discard to give an attacking creature trample. Or a hexproof creature that can discard to give an attacking creature shroud.
No, in Return to Ravnica there was a full 5 card cycle of uncommon 1 drop hybrids, people keep assuming its coming back from Gatecrash. Maro said the cycle was RTR only and not returning for Gatecrash, which means no cycle of hybrid 1 drops for the guilds in Gatecrash.
I wouldn't however rule out that there will be one drop hybrid cards, just that there won't be a 5 card cycle for all the guilds.
Gonna throw out my ideas for WW here too. I also feel like it's a waste to go straight white with the fixing we have so I was figuring on a blue splash. Here's what I'm working with...
I wanted to craft my deck around beating GB/Jund Zombies, hence the Elite Inquisitors, and as a base white deck my removal doesn't exactly send things to the graveyard. I feel like detain is amazing against not just zombies in particular but any deck. It'll keep the important creatures locked down long enough for the beats to wrap up the game.
Thoughts I had for this deck I'd be interested in comments on:
Gather the Townsfolk? I don't like it as the deck is now. It doesn't activate War Falcon and there isn't really any anthem effect in WW right now besides Angel of Jubilation. Perhaps if I made room for that and Mikaeus, the Lunarch, gather would be fine?
Snapcaster Mage? Viable targets could be Azorious Charm, Gather the Townsfolk (see above), and... anything? I don't feel like it's worth it just for that, and getting double blue to make the azorious charm work on flashback seems iffy. If I were to go heavier blue it might make sense? Unsure.
Resilience. How do I beat Bonfire? My friend suggested Rootborn Defense, but that seems icky. I could play Faith's Shield out of the sideboard? Or I could try to stall out the bonfire with Thalia and Judge's Familiar, just to buy me enough time to get through for game?
I don't frequent these forums often, so this may have been discussed. If so sorry.
What do people think about Scavenging Ooze being (re)printed in RTR? It doesn't seem like it would be at all out of flavor for Golgari, and maybe mechanically too (we don't know exactly what Golgari does, but something to do with the graveyard obv). It would also fit in with their mission of reprinting modern staples to lower the barrier to entry. Yeah, I know Ooze isn't modern-legal, but it still holds a hefty price tag from the other eternal formats.
10 new keywords in a block is already pushing NWO by a lot. Speaking of an 11th new keyword is not realistic, especialy as it would blurry the focus on the guilds.
I agree, but on the other hand Maro has said (I can quote dig if you care for me to) that it's essentially a rule that R&D brings back one mechanic every block. Cycling in Alara, Kicker in Zen, Imprint in Scars, Flashback in Innistrad.
I don't think they'd do hybrid mana, it seems conflicting with gold (both try to do different things), unless they do it like the -blade cycle from reborn [R/W][G] . If I had to guess I'd say entwine. Seems like a solid mechanic that would work well in a gold block (red card with a blue entwine cost, etc).

I kinda suspect it's referencing Jace's archivist, but I thought it was at least worth a thread to see if anyone thinks it's a hint at something?
