Dude was a STUD pitcher. A strike out machine and a perennial Cy Young candidate. One of the five best pitchers in the NL and arguably one of the five best in all of baseball. So young into a potential HoF career. Only 24, four years in the league.
I'm indifferent on my like/dislike of the Marlins, but as a fan of the game... truly a great talent lost so suddenly.
And everything I've been hearing on ESPN and the MLB network = the kid was decent and just loved the game and the country.

(about the English language) It's kinda like a raft that was cobbled together from parts of three different boats and since then has been kept barely afloat with crude repairs every time a leak appeared.
Expect the draft either the sunday before the season starts or that wednesday. I never like to draft before pre-week 4 as I dont want the feel bad injuries.
I agree. I see a lot of drafts taking place now, even though the season is still 3 1/2 weeks away. I've been a part of such drafts in the past... with a decent amount of cash on the line; always made me nervous waiting out those three weeks while there was still a big chunk of preseason games to go.

elMochaLatte is right = the audio is enough to keep me interested on this one.

Definitely. One of my closer friends and even my father have this tendency. They aren't really mean, but are demanding and/or rude enough to make me feel awkward and apologetic at times.
A Magic related pet-peeve: I really hate it when players put lands in front of their creatures. Not sure why, but its always bugged me.
It always bothers me, too.
You can include me in this group. I think it's because nearly all of the friends and groups I've played with all started around the same time (Revised thru Mirage eras). If I remember correctly, the Revised rulebook either had a picture of critters in front of lands or else said to place them so. And even if I'm "misremembering", they're about to do battle! They should be out front, not behind the lands! Come on people!

Although back in the day it was X-Wing/TIE Fighter that ruled my life. I actually recently got X-Wing Alliance reinstalled on my PC with the big graphics update, it's pretty awesome.
Holy crap were those games awesome, TIE Fighter specifically. So, so good.
I was born in '77 and will be 37 in 2.5 months, does that mean I don't belong in this thread?
An excellent thread. A bit depressing, but also wonderfully nostalgic. Thank you DemonDragonJ.

'The Martian' by Andy Weir, about a man left behind on Mars after a freak accident and how he deals with the situation, good so far but only a third of the way through
That is on my "to read" list. When finished, would you be so kind to let me know if its worth my time either here or via PM? It would much appreciated!
I'm rereading Mockingjay. I know its a bit early before the movie comes out late November, but I let my niece borrow the series a month ago, so it got me into the mood to reread 'em myself.

Well, its that time of year again. Seems as though the new site has destroyed what I and so many others helped to create each year. Votan sent me a message the other night inquiring about this years leagues. If im being 100% honest with myself and with everyone that has played or is interested in playing, Im likely retiring from MTGS. Im willing to try to put together one last league but unless there is a massive upswing in the number of people who regularly post on this thread over the duration of the season, that will be it for me. So, if you're interested in playing Fantasy Football, PM me an email address to send the ESPN invite to. If not, best of luck to everyone in all their future endeavors
has the league been activated yet? it isn't showing up on my ESPN fantasy page....

The 7/16 random card of the day is Disciple of Grace. If you know of a combo or decklist involving this card, feel free to share it.
This common has come in quite handy for me = I have four in my Pestilence deck. It fits the mana curve nicely and is a decent chump early or a different card when you already have enough pro-black critters and just waiting for and/or are needing something else.

The movie was fairly enjoyable but the best part was most definitely
Quicksilver's kitchen slow motion scene
That was definitely a hilarious, awesome scene. By my favorite was
Showing Blink's use of her power in the future battle scene. It was just as awesome as when we saw Nightcrawler for the first time in X2; my jaw was on the floor during both of those scenes.
I'm amazed at the high praise this film is getting.
First off, I didn't hate it, but I'm going to tear it down a bit.
What is Magneto doing in the end of the film? Did he really need to drop the stadium around the white house (I'll answer that one; no, he didn't)?
I thought it was eXcellent, but I understand your criticism. Though, I'm glad you didn't hate it, so at least you got some entertainment value out of it, yes?
While I don't agree with all of your criticisms, the one I quoted above I agree with 100%:
I guess it was so no one could get to him while he murdered all the top officials...? Hell, he had the sentinels already, so why barricade the White House? Or maybe it was for him to show the world just how friggin' powerful he is? I don't know. I agree with you. It was an unnecessary, over-the-top scene "just because they could." If I may dare to say, it was almost Michael Bay-ish.

Depends on if we even have a league. This site "upgrade" seems to have chased everyone away
You noticed that too, huh? I'm glad its not just me.
It seems the few Magic forums I occasionally browse/lurk are bursting with more activity (General and Casual). Whereas the Outside Magic forums have significantly lost regular posters, especially the Entertainment section. I don't recognize nearly as many names as I used to.
At any rate, I'm made the adjustment and I'll definitely still partake.

I haven't commented or complained about it, but just from one trailer... I'm definitely not going to pay to see this.
I'll wait until its on cable nine months after its release or maybe get it from the library or something. I won't be seeing this in the theater and I doubt I'll spend the money to watch it On Demand.

can't wait to start. been a good 8 years or so since i've done a fantasy baseball league.
heh heh heh. You're rusty, I'm a newbie, and Ravnos... is... new, rusty, neither? Macius obviously is experienced, and the other six....
It should be fun!
And Macius = an excellent serendipitous date you chose for the draft because tonight begins one of my vacation weeks! WOO-freaking-HOO! For my fantasy football drafts I sometimes request off, but usually try to adjust my sleep accordingly (because I work third shift), but I don't have to this time.

In post #10, Jay13x has provided an extensive list complete with his thoughts on each. It has been an invaluable, go to source for me.
From reading your initial post, the Jedi Academy Trilogy may be up your ally:
Jedi Search
Dark Apprentice
Champions of the Force
I also enjoyed the short story collections:
Tales from Mos Eisley Cantina
Tales of the Bounty Hunters
Tales from Jabba's Palace
