Even miracles doesn't like you having an active mom around. She eats a plow early, or forces them to pull the trigger on terminus as soon as you get mom + beater out.
that leylines deck sounds fun, serenity could have done some work. I tested a bit against infect don't think we need to worry too much about infect, basically they win against us if they can:
- deal with our stp (fow, vines, daze, etc)
- trample through blockers (berserk)
- get through our ports and wastelands (if they rely on inkmoth and we wasteland it it kinda messes them up)
Of course, sometimes they just die to variance because they draw the wrong mix of stuff.
Beware if you don't have a clock, I once died to a blighted agent attacking 10 times.
not sure if you guys saw Andrew Shrout's take on Death and taxes (splashing black for ONLY zealous persecutions, playset of spirit of the labyrinth) sometime back
Why do so few pros pick up the deck or promote it though? Is it because they need to promote decks with fetchlands and dual lands so that SCG/Channelfireball can sell more of them?
I guess this is not directed at me but as a guy who has tried out Sotl quite a bit, I'll say that I seldom get a magicalchristmaslandgotcha! moment to vial it in with brainstorm on the stack. If your meta is full of miracles and ancestral visions and whatnot, he's a pretty annoying card for opponents to deal with. Even in the correct meta, I would run 1, and I wouldn't run more than 2, multiple copies are just blade of the sixth pride.
Actually, people who play brainstorm decks are afraid enough of the card that everytime you tap your vial at 2 they respond with a suboptimal brainstorm. I'm going to cut him from my deck now, but I'll continue to tap my vial at 2 and if they want to respond with suboptimal brainstorms then its still all good in this neighborhood.
of course the only way to move forward is to admit mistakes, and this goes for anything not just magic. Thats the thing with legacy people are in it for the long haul and theres a community of sharing and learning. Maybe this is unfair stereotyping but I feel the standard community here is a lot more judgmental and obnoxious, and a few standard players here have really poor behavior that I will not elaborate on.
I'm definitely going to take out spirits from the mainboard and that grand abolisher test which didn't work out as brilliantly as I thought. I'm going to try brimaz again, as well as the 2 mangaras. And I won't ever think about cutting a karakas (that seemed pretty stupid on hindsight) to go down to 22 land.
just make sure you're aware that they will clique you to find your cataclysm. I have also had jace fateseal me to ensure i dont have a cataclysm (when they could have bounced one of my creatures or something instead). It seems that miracles are aware that this is one card that wrecks them, so they will do their utmost to ensure we don't have it. Just suggesting that you guys don't sandbag cataclysm for too long in the hope of gaining value out of it for the extreme late game...they have ways of dealing with it.
Your feedback was taken well, don't worry about me taking it harshly, the reason I'm here and so many others are here is to keep learning. I think my knee jerk reaction to switch around the decklist just 10 minutes before deck registration closed might not have paid off. You're right in that spirit won a game but durdled subsequently, there's no saying how my matches would have gone had I lost the storm matchup.
Same thing with grand abolisher. Grizzly bears against a lot of decks. I never got out a mangara in all 6 games, which couldn't let me gauge if I wanted another but everyone seems to be running 2 or 0. I made the mistake of E tutor against rug and thanks for pointing it out. I remember I had it stuck in my hand when I know he had a counter because he revealed off a delver and I looked pretty stupid.
In future anyone please feel free to be 'harsh' with me. I rather get 'harsh' treatment here than at tournaments when I end up with more miserable records.
I dont like Mindcensor because of how she exposes the deck's weaknesses even more with the 1 toughness. Also the effect is very situational and reliant on having 3 mana open, which in turn it relies on having a Vial out since without a Vial you rarely have that much mana open after your turn. If you leave mana open with things like a Rishadan port in play and decide not to tap on upkeep the opponent can then expect the Mindcensor and play around it, and what would you do at the end of his turn? Wait and waste tempo or just drop it and the opponent then fetches in response, rendering the effect nearly useless? Mindcesor is way too situational for my taste, especially as a maindeck card.
There's never been a situation where I thought "Man, a Mindcensor would be great in this board state and could absolutely turn the game around". He's always been sort of a plus, if you have it in the right board state it does cute things, but will never put a tremendous amount of pressure on the opponent. It's not proactive enough of a card, while also being extremely squishy.
^this is how i feel most of the time as well. I hate it when I don't port them and then it's a dead giveaway...and now they know "AHA you have it" and just don't fetch. The alternative is to be unpredictable with your porting, but that sounds a little lame and suboptimal.Sometimes I wish he was another Flickerwisp.
People think I'm trolling or something when I talk about cards like Restoration Angel, as I don't live in America so I can't go to these SCG Opens so I'm physically unable to prove it, but just think about it. You guys spend weeks talking about narrow creatures like Mindcensor or Crusader when there's an amazing, beefy, removal-resistant, hard to block utility creature that has enormous synergy with everything in the deck, just waiting to be used. I also thought the 4CMC was hard to get in theory, but in practice it's not a big deal, it's harder to get double white mana and yet we still haven't dropped Flickerwisp.
I don't think you're trolling, its just that we haven't had enough testing to prove its worth. I agree that he can't be abrupt decayed or lightning bolted, but 4cc is right there at the top of the curve and you will take awhile to have 4 mana available because of how we like wastelanding and porting. Then there are others out there who have tested Elspeth, Knight Errant in the 4cc slot too.

I don't really like it...that plains count looks dodgy, as does multiple spirits that turn subsequent ones into blade of the sixth pride
I would still prefer ratchet bomb because we don't have the color manipulation that other decks playing exposives do.
As for flickerwisp, i feel like 4 is a little too many, and in testing sometimes hes just a 3/1 vanilla flying that untaps a land at the end of turn.
Damn I didn't know that! Silly me! I might have won that game it was tight
Edit: I am such a scrub for not knowing that ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh
