I am a fairly new player to Magic. My first event was M10 pre-release, so I'm getting ready to go through my first real rotation where I have alot of cards that will no longer be standard legal.
I'm looking for advice on what I should do with my Fetch lands.
And a little background about me so you can give good advice:
I play almost exclusively standard. I play with a casual playgroup at lunch most work days and only occasionally get to my local shop for a FNM (I'd like to go more, but hard at this point of my life with wife, 3 kids, 50+ hour week job).
I'm the most competitive in my casual group. I buy alot of cards because I'm never happy playing only 1 deck for weeks at a time. But I don't often buy a card that costs more than $10. I rely on trades and lucky pack pulls for big money cards. Mostly pack pulls because hard to trade when you aren't at the store much.
I just started getting into EDH, but it takes too long for a lunch break game and that means I won't play it very often. (2-3 times a year probably)
That's why I'm asking here, I don't know what I should do?:
Trade my Fetch lands off for new Planeswalkers or other cards that I want? (otherwise I'll have $200 of Fetch land cards sitting in a box on a shelf)
Hold them because the value will double/triple in the next 2-3 years and it's worth the wait to make better trades in the future?
Hold them because they will get reprinted for Standard and I'll have to recollect them all anyway?
Hold them because in a few more years I'll be so fed up with standard rotations - that I'll just want cool cards to build fun decks with.
Assume I have a Vampire Nighthawk equipped with a Basilisk Collar and block a Baneslayer Angel. EDIT - I meant to say the Nighthawk has a Totem Armor attached instead of Collar!!! Sorry - that's important!
Does the BSA die from Deathtouch since the Armor allows the Nighthawk to survive - does it get to deal damage to BSA?
Thanks.
Also - (If I should make 2 threads - sorry)
My buddy played a Safe Passage when I played a land with Ob Nixilis on the battlefield to prevent the 3 damage. We didn't see any reason I wouldn't still get the 3 counters though. Is that correct?
Can someone give me the basic explanation of how this card works.
Say I've got 10 permanents on the battlefield, 4 cards in hand, and 3 in the graveyard.
I think I shuffle the 10 permanents into the library, keep my hand, and leave the graveyard and then after shuffle, flip top 10 cards over from library and from there it's clear on card what I can play. Also - it's still my turn and I can play additional cards from my hand if I want before going to combat phase.
My buddy says we shuffle our hand in also and he's thinking that if not we can both play cards from our hands - including him play creatures which I'm arguing he can't.
It's our first warp world deck so just want to make sure it's played correctly.
I have 2 Verdant Catacombs and a Vampire Nocturnus in play.
On my turn, after I draw, I flip over the top card (per Nocturnus) and it's a land. When my opponent receives priority he casts Lightning bolt on Nocturnus since he's now a 3/3. In response I crack a fetch in hopes of getting a non-land card on top. I don't I get a land.
Is there a way I crack the other fetch for one more chance to save Nocturnus, before his Bolt comes off the stack? Thanks.
Can someone explain how Safe Passage works in a 2HG game.
For the example, assume the other team attacks with creatures and my partner and I don't block, but I just play the Safe Passage. Is all damage prevented? only 1/2 damage prevented? or can my opponents just say They are directing all damage at my partner so, no damage is prevented?
When I read the card that's what I was afraid of, but didn't want to short change myself if I was misinterpreting it. Tougher to pull off a morph than I was hoping. Thanks for quick feedbacks.
I play a Hedron Crab, opponent plays lightning bolt, can I respond by playing a land to make him mill 3 cards before the bolt comes off the stack? (since land doesn't use the stack wasn't sure how this should have been played.)
Or would I have been able to play the land anyway before he could Bolt because I still had priority anyway?
If I have 2 creatures in play and I cast a polymorph and my opponent responds with a lightning bolt to one of my creatures - when my spell comes off the stack, should I have already declared my target when i cast my spell so my Polymorph fizzles, or can I select the other creature?
What if I don't want to select the other creature (For example one is weak and one is powerful and the weak is killed so I only have the powerful one left), can I choose to let the polymorph fizzle?
Ahh, Good call on the Infest mistake (for the record I was going to type Volcanic Fallout, but then I thought Infest is alot shorter to type- so much for being lazy!)
Say I have aBeastmaster Ascension in play and have 7 wolf tokens (2/2) and declare them as attackers.
I believe that as soon as I declare the wolves as attackers then the Beastmaster Ascension gets it counters. Where I need clarification is IF immediately after the BA gets the counters do the wolves gain +5/+5?
If so does that use the stack? and give the opponent a chance to respond with something like Infest and kill the wolves before they get the counters?
If I attack with a Thornling and end the Declare Attackers Phase, do I get a chance during or after the Declare Blockers Step to tap mana to use any of his special abilities?
For instance, if I didn't have to decide which abilities to use until my opponent declared blocks then I wouldn't have to waste a Forest on Trample, I could instead make him +1/-1 and get that extra point of damage in.
Thanks.

I think it cost $5, but was well worth it to me.

What can you do as a response (i.e. when the stack is not empty)
Looking for list of things like:
Play an instant, Activate an ability, .... others?
Also does it ever matter if it's your turn or your opponents turn that could limit what you could do?
Thanks.

I give you all props for catching it right away.
Thanks for the info to all.

I'm assuming Regeneration works the same way?
Someone told me you had to declare Regeneration before you attack - is that wrong info?
For instance, if I didn't have to decide which abilities to use until my opponent declared blocks then I wouldn't have to waste a Forest on Trample, I could instead make him +1/-1 and get that extra point of damage in.
