Trying out something new. Had been running a more traditional Jund Aggro list, but net decking is just soooo boring when you're "just" playing at FNM, so here I am trying something new and a bit more creative.
A couple stray notes. First, you'll notice this is only 56 cards. Initially I'd been trying out a playset of either Flinthoof Boar or Gore-House Chainwalker. The Chainwalker had a bit more synergy with the deck, but Boar scavenges better. Neither of them I REALLY liked, though. They were basically just solid aggressive creatures, and I kinda wanted something there that had a bit more synergy with the rest of the deck - trying to go all in, as you can see.
Otherwise the deck's been working really well in playtesting and goldfishing. Obviously decks run a lot better when not against an actual appointment, but still in this way I've at least been able to find that the deck "works" or whatever.
Just started working on this, and I've got a long way to go and a lot of edits to make I'm sure, so let's hear those suggestions - especially at this point those pertaining to the four missing cards.
Honest question. Would this have been too good if the effect lasted indefinitely, rather than just until the end of turn? Still only on those creatures you have on the battlefield at the time of casting, of course.
Makes sense. Guess I'll try it out and see how I like it. Also I've seen the occasional list running Crimson Muckwader over Mogg Flunkies Thoughts on that guy?
So I need some help. I'm looking to run a version of this my local FNM starting this week and eventually at some bigger tournaments once I've really finalized my list and gotten a good feel for the deck. I've pretty much got built up the traditional list at the moment, except I'm having trouble deciding on one or two things.
I see most of these decks playing Experiment One over Stromkirk Noble, which I assume is their reason for playing Mogg Flunkies over Lightning Mauler. I've been playtesting Noble and Mauler and liking it a lot, but I can see the appeal of the alternative, which seems to hit a little harder right out of the gates. Still, though, I like that by going the Noble/Mauler route you can include basic Mountains over Forests, making Flinthoof Boar that much better/more consistent.
This deck is by and large just an experiment. There are a few things right off the bat I can see going wrong - most notably just outright killing yourself with your own Duskmantle Seer. But it's the sort of thing I want to actually test rather than just dismiss, and then from there adjust the deck accordingly. But anyway, I'll just go ahead and post the initial list, and we can go from there.
i don't like Boros Reckoner in this deck because your going to need three red mana to cast it. replace the stonewrights for vexing devils, your going to be pumping alot of your red mana into it. vexing devil gives you a turn 1 burn or a powerful early game creature. thundermaw hellkite is also somthing to consder if your serious
Check out his mana base. It's all red, making both Boros Reckoner and Stonewright even better than usual.
BR Vampires was a favorite of mine back when Zendikar was in standard, and like a lot of people I tried to keep the deck alive using Innistrad Vampires. Unfortunately it just wasn't possible, partially because Vampires got screwed over by only getting a single 1-drop (admittedly a very good one, though). But still, the curve just didn't work.
Oddly enough Gatecrash has (finally) given us another 1-drop Vampire to play with, and so I can't help but want to try the deck again. Here's the list I've been playing the last couple weeks at FNM with a fair bit of success. I've divided up the creatures by CMC to make it easier to see what's going on.
The sideboard could definitely use more work. I kinda want to tailor it more towards anti-control, since those are the matchups the deck is worst against. Just need to give it a bit more thought on how exactly to do that.
Anyway, any suggestions for the main deck or the sideboard would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I was under the impression the entire ability would resolve before checking whether Lightning Mauler was alive or dead. His response was that, since there were periods separating various portions of the ability, the Lightning Mauler would die before ever becoming a Vampire.
I know this question has been asked and answered here before, but I wanted some clarification as it was a judge who told me otherwise. Also, if it turns out I am right, could you point to a specific place in the rulebook that says so. I'd like to have more concrete evidence to back it up than "some guy on the forums said so". Thanks!
Disciple can't really be considered a sac outlet, though. The whole point of this sort of deck is to sac Gravecrawler over and over or sac everything and bring 'em all back with Immortal Servitude, then do it again - draining lots of life from your opponent with Blood Artist.
Seeing as you aren't running the Regent(which is too expensive for what you get i.e. rakish heir is similar and half as expensive) you're looking fairly low cost. i've seen it run around the Nocturnus. You run about. 20 - 23 lands 4 each being drowned catacomb dragonskull summit and blood crypt (adding watery grave if necessary in a week or so. Drop the nobles. and anything that monored or blue. you get everything with at least SOME black and everything triggers the Nocturnus. played against it with just black/red and its a lot of fun. I'm a huge fan of running blue, so i can only see good things adding the catacombs and/or watery graves to splash or splice in blue. I know it's not as practical, but it will be enjoyable.
I like Nocturnus, it can be a really good card. But I think I'm gonna stick with Bloodline Keeper. I don't like being restricted on the sort of cards I can run, and Nocturnus definitely does that.
3 Dragonskull Summit

Thoughts on this? I guess what I'm saying is, sell me on the Experiment One/Mogg Flunkies route, because right now I'm having a hard time giving up on Stromkirk Noble and Lightning Mauler.
Turns out Maze's End unlocks Kingdom Hearts.

My board was Olivia Voldaren, Stromkirk Captain, and Lightning Mauler. My question for the judge, and now for you, is whether the Lightning Mauler would live if I targeted it with Olivia Voldaren's first ability.
I was under the impression the entire ability would resolve before checking whether Lightning Mauler was alive or dead. His response was that, since there were periods separating various portions of the ability, the Lightning Mauler would die before ever becoming a Vampire.
