I'm going to take the plunge for the first time and was wondering which I should deck I should buy into. I'm looking for some deck that would retain at least some value in the next rotation in terms of playability or can at the very least be used as a strong base for a modern deck. Any ideas?
To build up a collection, these are my personal suggestions:
1. Play limited. Prereleases/drafts/sealed events add to your card pool.
2. Buy some packs when you are bored. Don't buy them for money, buy them for fodder. Some people crack a box when they get a good price <90$ in a set with good expected value. Theros is one of those sets if you can find a good price on the box.
3. Sometimes your old decks rotate out. They may have some value in eternal formats. Now it is trade fodder.
$50-$100 a month. I only play casual so I purchase all singles from bots, I save up for special "boxed" sets (like my 3 FTV 20s, the growing pile of cash for vintage masters). I'm expecting to spend $3000 on MTGO this year. I've been taking a break through the holidays but I play probably 10-15 hours a week on average, all casual games. I play some serious decks, but generally don't have enough trust in MTGO to actually play money tournaments.
Wow, 3000 dollars is about $250 a month. All for casual? you could buy a new standard deck each month
You get singles by trading with players and bots. You trade tickets and cards for tickets and cards from bots and players. That, and very few promotional offers, give you single cards.
Masterm you probably already understand this, but unless somebody reports you for it, there is no way for them to detect you using injection unless your bot is completely screwed and you are injecting crazy stuff into the client. If you aren't using it to create a store I doubt anybody would cause a stir and report you.
If you are making a bot that will play it might be a little odd if it makes decisions in a fraction of a second though LOL. Possibly create some artificial thought times to make it seem more human.
I know I would probably be fine until I made someone mad, but I would like to at least know the actual limitations. I might send an email to one of the official people, not sure who yet.
Does anyone know where they might say injection is against the rules (I.e. if there is a post or something that clarifies it?) and if injection isn't legal, is reading from address space allowed (no modification of memory at all, just directly reading and then using ocr and autoclickers to handle the rest?
Also, is running mtgo in wine legal? and if it is, wouldn't it also be legal to hook into wine and use that as a pseudo-injector?
Finally, if all else is illegal, what about custom drivers or hooks into the native libraries mtgo calls (.net, any rendering library, or even a modified display driver to speed up ocr)?
I am just trying to get all options. I have an idea for a bot project (not a store) but I want to take the fastest approach
We've had bots run a chat channel before (Auction) and do PM's (Lookup).
In theory the only thing we haven't seen a bot do yet is play. I think if WotC discovered a bot playing they would ban the account. On the other hand it seems like it would be very useful thing to have two AI's practice against each other.
any ideas about the methods of botting that are allowed? Screenscraping is extremely slow and doesn't scale well. Memory editing would be the way to go for speed and reliability.
I was just curious as I was looking into bots and I was wondering what 'types' of bots are allowed. If I understand the rules correctly as quoted below:

Screenscrapers are okay, and bots that pretend to be the client (i.e. are a thin client) are not allowed. What about memory readers/editors? (Ala cheatengine style)? What about bots that inject and hook into processes of the client (but do not modify the executable)? Are there any types I might be missing?
Besides buying and selling, are bots allowed to do anything else, like run a chat channel or respond to pms?
Prices are way too high. I was planning on drafting this set heavily. I was expecting a bit of an increase in price, but not double the cost of a normal draft. No reason for me to use MM now
most people don't include land destruction in their decks, especially not standard, so you were a bad matchup for pretty much every deck. That might fuel some of the hatred.
Depending on the number of tickets, websites like mtgotraders will sometimes buy them. Ebay is also a great place to go. Possibly even someone on the forum might buy them.
Expect to get maybe .85 to .90 minus transaction fees per ticket.

I spend approximately 60$ a month, all on drafts, and slightly more on months with prereleases.

Sorry for the late reply, but the only other thing I can think of is a bad .net install. Try uninstalling/reinstalling the entire thing.
