Took This List from the Cy Cook Version and changed it a little, I think this is a great deck, However, I need a little help with the sideboard. I see a lot of both Control and Aggro but not as many Midrange Decks in my meta. If anyone has any suggestions let me know.
Making this Deck for a friend of mine out of the cards I have to borrow for FNM. Any easy ways to make it slightly better without breaking the bank with too many more cards?
Played with this deck for FNM this week and went 3-1 with it. I faced Grixis Control, RDW, Junk Reanimator, and UW control wit my loss being the reanimator. The loss was definitely some error on my part. The player i was against was really good and didn't leave me any room for mistakes which I made. I definitely need to change out the sideboard a little. I want to take out the geists and put in some Zealous Conscripts, i feel like they would have been a lot better, and I also want to fit in some detention spheres, though I don't really know where. I also think it's okay in my meta to bring the pillars to 2 and spears up to 4. Any other suggestions?
Here's my decklist, and I was looking for advise. I've been doing very good exept for my matchups against RDW. Could I get some suggestions and advise on that matchup or on my deck in general?
I voted no on banning Worldfire. The reason is that when i see this card i see a combo piece, and i also don't think it is different from any other game ending combo piece out there. I don't agree with the comparison with upheaval because upheaval when everyone still has high life totals is just obnoxious. This brings everyone to 1 life so that if some db uses it "just because they can" everyone's life total is 1 so it's less annoying in that reset the game type way.
Also, it makes phasing good and you can't hate on that!
I'm sorry guys but I saw that no one has mentioned Skeleton Ship yet, because that has to be the best worst art ever. I mean there are skeletons riding sea turtles (like total bosses) and the artwork for the ship itself is, well, just wow. Also it's a legend so you know it's ballin'.
I think Zombify will get a reprint. Turn 3 Liliana then turn 4 Zombify FTW! I'm hoping so because Rise from the Grave didn't come back in M11. I can always hope that it'll be Reanimate or Exhume though.
Since we're throwing ideas out there for consideration I thought of Steel Hellkite, he's a little slow to get out for aggro, but against things like enchantments or creatures that come out a little later he would be good and not get rid of your stuff like The Bomb. The first thing that comes to my mind is Luminarch Ascension or Journey to Nowhere, or even Elves.
Here's a pure UB list I ran the onther night at my local FNM, I think it did really well. I've also tested it out against a few other decks and I really like it. I'm definitely changing it up though, because it can get better. I'm going to put another BSZ in MB, I kept on siding the one in and wishing that I had another. I only had two Tezz's at the time but I'm getting one more and I think that will be what I want in there, but I'll test and see if it needs 4. I will try out the Forgemaster/Colossus combo and I'll try splashing red for some clasms but I don't think both would work out too well. I am leaning towards keeping it UB though because I have a hard time with 3 colors usually.
The deck did well against most of the decks at FNM, I played some UWG leveler deck which didn't stand a chance. I played a BG super aggro infect, which I lost to 1-2. I sided in all removal I just didn't get any 1st game or 3rd game which was a bummer, because when I did in the second game it was a breeze. I also played a BG Titan deck which was basically a ramp deck that had Primeval Titans and Grave titans with lots of ramp and had some other nasty dudes like Gaea's Revenge and Obstinate Baloth, lots of removal, and it was a pretty wicked deck actually, but we tied because we ran out of time on the second game. Then I played a Knight deck, which was my buddy's and beat it without too much trouble. I've also tested it against Kuldotha Goblins, a Vamp, and a GW Quest deck that I have, and it doesn't have too much problem with them except for the goblins, because it's just so fast.
Anyways, I'm definintely checking out some different stuff and experimenting with this deck, and I'm pretty confident that it will be amazing by the time I'm done with it. I'll update when I do some more testing.
Mindslaver is pretty amazing. I am not saying that he doesn't need another Tez, but I don't think mindslaver is the right thing to take out. I think 1 of the treasure mages would be the better call.
I agree, whenever I get the Tezzeret I'm definitely taking out a Treasure Mage. The Mindslaver is just too good against control, I kept on siding it out during the night because the only thing I was playing was creature based decks, and didn't really see an opportunity to use it. I was also thinking about adding in another BSZ but I'm not too sure, it was really the MVP of the deck. I definitely need a little more against the super quick aggro, but I'll have to do some testing.
I made this deck the other day and tested it last night at my local FNM. I've been working on the list since I got my second Tezz about a week ago, earlier I had a Blightsteel Colossus, but I thought that if I could ramp up to him I'd probably be winning anyways
I think I did pretty well for the first real test of the deck. I went 2-1-1 with it and the one I lost was really close, and the one with the tie was well, obviously closer.
First match was a WBg Leveler deck of some sort. I went 2 and 0 with this one. 1st game: The deck pretty much did what it was supposed to. I got everything I needed with Tumble Magnets early with some proliferate support into the planeswalkers and Wurmcoil.
2nd game: He got out a Lotus Cobra, which helped him get 2-3 guys out at once which I held off with Magnets, Tezz with Ichorwell Springs , and then I was able to get up the Spine of Ish Sah combo off, followed by a Myr Battlesphere with Tezz's ultimate.
Second game: I got this game, he got out the Stinger again and I was able to get a tumble magnet out, then I got a Go for the Throat and was able to keep his creatures off the table or tapped with magnet until I got out Tezz 4th turn and turned my Ichor Wellspring into a creature. Hit for 5 the next turn keeping his creature Tapped with the Magnet and after the last counter came off I turned him into a creature and hit him for the last 10.
Third game: I didn't side anything in because I though this was as good as it is gonna get. He started off with a Vector Asp this time, but I only got two GftT. :/ He was able to Kill me on his 4th turn right before I could get Tezz with the Throne of Geth I had out.
Third Match was a GB Titan Ramp deck. This Match I went 1-1 with and then they called time right as the second game was ending with me winning. First game: This was a long one so I'll shorten it down. We both ramped up pretty quickly, and he had a Guul Draz Assasin out first then Lotus cobra which I swept with BSZ. Then he got out one Primeval Titan after another. Which I was able to remove with some GffT and doom blades, all up to the 4th one. At the same time I got out Myr Battlesphere and which he Acidic Slimed and an Engine which he did the same to and killed the tokens which he killed with the Titan with Sword of Vengeance, and he went on to kill me with it.
Second Game: This match went pretty similar to the first one, long. It was the same story as he ramped up pretty quickly to the 2 Primeval Titan, but I was able to take care of with the spine of Ish Sah, and Killed off a few more with it and ramped up my Chalice before he brought out the slime and finished of my throne. Then he got out a little surprize for me, which was a Grave Titan. The first I was able to take care of after it attacked once with some Volition Reins. After I attacked once he got out another Primeval, which when took care of the next attack from Grave Titan. I was still able to over power him with the guys from by Myr Battlesphere, which he had taken out with a naturalize, right before time, and we had to call the match a tie, because we couldn't possibly finish a third game.
Fourth match was a match against a White Knight Deck, and it was piloted by a good friend of mine which I had actually come with, so it was a pretty quick match, not because it was easy, but we both knew each others decks and could get right into it. It didn't go to well for him at 2-0 for me, but it was still fun. No hard feelings.
First game: He got out Student of Warfare first turn and was able to hit me with it second turn before I killed it with regular removal, then he got another Knight Exemplar and a White Knight. I tried to kill the knight but he had a Brave the Elements, and he hit me next turn. I answered with my BSZ killing his knights, and was able to get out Tezz, and then Battlesphere, winning me that one.
Second Game: I got a hand full of removal, and a Jace. He got out 1 Student of warfare, I let him level it once and killed it. he got out another, same story, and then another, with the same ending. after that I could get out the tumble magnet and Jace. He only had Hero of bladehold which I kept at bay with Magnet until I got Wurmcoil and beat face.
So, all in all I think it did pretty well, it definitely has room for improvement and I have some stuff to think about. These results should get me started on building up a much better list, and give a little insight on how the deck does against certain conditions. Can anyone think of how to make this a little better?

So, all in all I think it did pretty well, it definitely has room for improvement and I have some stuff to think about. Don't be afraid to comment and let me know any suggestions that you have.
So, I tested this deck against a some aggro decks last night and came up with some changes. First I played Vampires, and it didn't really have too much trouble, just subbed in some GftT, for Doom Blade and there it was. Tapped out vamps with Tumble Magnet and killed off with removal. Got out the biggies and that was that.
Then I went ahead and played a G/W, and it's about the same story as the Vamps. The Quest always comes down first turn, and Fauna Shaman second. I killed off the Shaman and they got out almost enough to get quest so I swept with zenith. Anything that they could get Argentum Armor to stick to was victim of the Tumble Magnet until I could get some removal.
Next was the Kuldotha Red Goblin Deck, which I did have a little trouble with. First game I won, it went: I went first, layed down a land, they got Kuldotha Rebirth, did some damage second turn with Goblin Bushwacker, but turn 3 I got Black Sun's Zenith, and swept. They couldn't really keep anything else out. Game two didn't go so well. They got out rebirth, and I made a mistake, I went for the Everflowing Chalice turn three hoping to get some more goblins when I swept. I was able to sweep once, and they just got another rebirth fifth turn, got me down to five, and I thought I had a chance, but then he had Lightning Bolt and Galvanic Blast. The next went almost the same as the second game but I swept on turn three, and he couldn't do as much damage, I was able to hold off until I got out the Myr Battlesphere and that was it.
I got pretty lucky with drawing the Zenith's so early so I'm thinking about taking out one of the counters in the SB for one more Black Sun's Zenith, what do you guys think?
So, here's the best Tezzeret and Jace deck I could think up at the moment. It has enough early game to take care of aggro, with the removal and BSZ. also the Throne and Wellspring work really well together, especially with the chalice out or the planes walkers. I've thought Tumble Magnet was a beast that no one ever really utilizes and is amazing in this deck. It also has some synergy with the Throne and Tezz. The Spine and Myr Battlesphere are two others that work well with the Throne and Tezz, and Wurmcoil is just an all star anyways. Then as a bonus you can easily get enough mana produced with the Chalices and Proliferate late game to get out the Colossus if you need him. I haven't really decided on the sideboard all the way yet though. What do you think? Any suggestions on the Deck?

-1 Treasure Mage
2nd game: He got out a Lotus Cobra, which helped him get 2-3 guys out at once which I held off with Magnets, Tezz with Ichorwell Springs , and then I was able to get up the Spine of Ish Sah combo off, followed by a Myr Battlesphere with Tezz's ultimate.
Second Match was a GB infect deck: 1st game: I lost this one, he won the roll and got out a Plague Stinger, I had a Doom blade, Tezz, and Everflowing Chalice, he killed me turn 4 with 2 Giant Growths and Groundswell.
Sided in:
+1 Go for the Throat
+2 Doom Blade
+1 Black Sun Zenith
+1 Argent Sphinx
-1 Mindslaver
-1 Ichor Wellspring
-1 Throne of Geth
-1 Treasure Mage
-1 Spine of Ish Sah
Sided in:
+1 Go for the Throat
+2 Doom Blade
+3 Volition Reins
+3 Duress
-1 Mindslaver
-2 Ichor Wellspring
-2 Throne of Geth
-1 Treasure Mage
-1 Everflowing Chalice
-1 Spine of Ish Sah
-1 Tumble Magnet
Second Game: This match went pretty similar to the first one, long. It was the same story as he ramped up pretty quickly to the 2 Primeval Titan, but I was able to take care of with the spine of Ish Sah, and Killed off a few more with it and ramped up my Chalice before he brought out the slime and finished of my throne. Then he got out a little surprize for me, which was a Grave Titan. The first I was able to take care of after it attacked once with some Volition Reins. After I attacked once he got out another Primeval, which when took care of the next attack from Grave Titan. I was still able to over power him with the guys from by Myr Battlesphere, which he had taken out with a naturalize, right before time, and we had to call it a tie.
Sided in:
+1 Go for the Throat
+2 Doom Blade
+1 Black Sun Zenith
-1 Mindslaver
-1 Ichor Wellspring
-1 Throne of Geth
-1 Treasure Mage
Second Game: I got a hand full of removal, and a Jace. He got out 1 Student of warfare, I let him level it once and killed it. he got out another, same story, and then another, with the same ending. after that I could get out the tumble magnet and Jace. He only had Hero of bladehold which I kept at bay with Magnet until I got Wurmcoil and beat face.
So, all in all I think it did pretty well, it definitely has room for improvement and I have some stuff to think about. Don't be afraid to comment and let me know any suggestions that you have.
4 Creeping Tar Pit
4 Drowned Catacomb
4 Darkslick Shores
4 Tectonic Edge
4 Swamp
3 Island
Creatures
2 Myr Battlesphere
2 Wurmcoil Engine
1 Blightsteel Colossus
3 Treasure Mage
2 Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas
3 Jace, the Mind Sculptor
Artifacts
4 Ichor Wellspring
4 Tumble Magnet
4 Throne of Geth
4 Everflowing Chalice
1 Spine of Ish Sah
Removal
3 Go for the Throat
2 Doom Blade
2 Black Sun's Zenith
4 Stoic Rebuttal
4 Mana Leak
1 Go for the Throat
2 Doom Blade
3 Duress
1 Black Sun's Zenith
