There are a multitude of stories surrounding the name "deadguy ale". THE "deadguy ale" deck is a BW Stoneforge deck in legacy. Often when people see a BW deck in a more eternal format, they just say, "oh, it's deadguy ale". Kinda how there's death and taxes, and modern death and taxes. A few MTG commentators are calling Modern BW Midrange "Modern Deadguy Ale" already, so it's on the list.
As for how the legacy deck got the name, the deck was created by team "Deadguy", and the beer is often sited as being their brew of choice while brewing the deck (pun intended). So the name "Deadguy Ale" stuck.
I personally support either Tom and Jerry or The Rat Pack. Both make slick references to BW Mid's primary win con - pack rat. I like the originality over stealing a name from legacy.
wasn't deadguy ale a deck before Stoneforge was a card?
I'm super disappointed that they created "naga"
I've been wanting a legendary blue green "snake" to play snake tribal in commander because the best snake ever printed (Ophidian) is blue and how can you forget mystic snake
The wording of those abilities on Avacyn sounds like they are killing Protection as an evergreen keyword for good.
i don't agree. Avacyn giving a creature protection from a color makes the creature unblockable by creatures of that color and making spells fizzle. I doubt they wanted to introduce new players to those concepts in a core set (because the timing issues can be difficult for new players to learn)
you cast Ready to give the boros reckoner lifelink, then you use boros charm to give him indestructable, then you deal him damage, and he damages himself for an endless loop of infinite life (or you could fuse ready/willing instead of using the charm)
don't see how you get infinite damage though
edit: for the last iteration, you chose your opponent with the boros reckoner do deal a boat load of damage
I like the list but I think that without the deathtouch creatures (Thrill Kill Assassin, Nyxborn Eidolon, Agent of the Fates) Archetype of Courage gets much worse, its still an enchantment and it's still a human but the first strike isn't worth much. I think in that build I would get rid of the Aegis of the Gods entirely as well as the Spear of Heliods and add in Nyxborn/Agent of the Fates, and probably cut down on one Dictate.
My problem with Aegis is that it's a 2/1 body that doesn't do anything of value. It has 2 lives but to be honest it's not even a grizzly bear.
I could see removing the whip, I mainly had it for lifelink to counter Dark Prophecy damage, the reanimation never really registered. With more enchantments though you can make a good case for Coinsmith carrying the load of not killing yourself to Dark Prophecy on it's own.
The value of Aegis is that it gives you Hexproof, which prevents your opponent from playing thoughtseize to make you discard your 5 mana dictate of erebos. Still not a fan of agent of the fates in the build without a lot of low casting cost ways to trigger him. The UB deck that is built around him uses at least 14 spells to target him with the most expensive costing 2 mana. running 12 ways of triggering him with the cheapest costing 3 doesn't seem like it's worth the hassle of playing him.
the third copy of dictate of erebos was because like you said earlier, Deicide is a card that is being played in standard and your opponent can still use it to exile any enchantment (it's just much much better against gods)

I thought about Atheros, I don't expect it to ever be a creature though and Deicide is a pretty strong reason to not make a god a cornerstone of the strategy.
Deviant Glee isn't really where I want to be. Dark Prophecy is staying in for now, it restricts colors a bit but it's an enchantment that draws cards in a deck that wants things to die. The engine between it and Dictate of Erebos just seems way too strong. That was my original motivation for the deck, though I am willing to admit Eidolon of Blossoms may just be a better Dark Prophecy but I'm not convinced of that yet.
I'm thinking Thrill Kill might be better as Nyxborn Eidolon, it gains enchantment and the ability to bestow but loses human. Maybe a 2/2 split there.
With deathtouch creatures Archetype of Courage would be pretty nuts, plus it's a human enchantment. WW on turn 3 is a challenge though.
ok, thought about it some more
1) I'm thinking that whip might not be necessary in the deck. the exile clause on whip means dictate of erebos and dark prophecy both WON'T trigger. Giving all of your guys lifelink is really nice (maybe switch it with Mark of the Vampire?)
2) 3 mana from Dark Prophecy + 2 mana from Dictate of Erebos + 2 from Atheros is the 7 required to make Atheros a creature
this gives you 29 creatures. 21 of them enchantments, 27 of them are humans
With only one 1 drop, you can easily play the guildgate for more color fixing
At this point, I would cut green completely by removing Reaper of the Wilds and Dark Prophecy and replace them with Athreos. I would also add in a few copies of Deviant Glee to help trigger Heroic on Agent of the Fates
and plains, I would definitely add in some basic plains
i try and save up for the one that's most vital to completing a deck and then try to find legacy tournaments that pay out in store credit for the winners to try and get the rest
If you ignore the "medium price" for lowest price (doesn't necessarily mean "heavily played") and don't include unnecessary cards like 3x Kataki, 4x Windbrisk Heights or City of Brass you can buy most of this deck for far less than $80. Not to mention singletons of Elspeth and Sword. Will a singleton make a big difference in a deck, especially one with no card draw or library manipulation?

this is how i would build W/B human constellation
4 Temple of Silence
3 orzhov guildgate
4 Godless Shrine
4 plains
4 Swamp
4 Sightless Brawler
4 Underworld Coinsmith
4 Aegis of the Gods
4 Cartel Aristocrat
3 Archetype of Courage
2 Athreos, God of Passage
4 Xathrid Necromancer
2 Spear of Heliod
3 Dictate of Erebos

Windbrisk Heights IS your library manipulation
