I believe RancoredElf keeps a running tally of average box value if you want to check that out. It'll probably give you better insight on just how worth it or not worth it cracking the box is.
Guys, maybe someone slipped some kind of mind-bending drugs in my drink, but I seem to see a bunch of people all agreeing that Lure/Prey Upon+Deathtouch is a viable removal strategy.
I don't really see how giving your opponent a free two-for-one is good. However, Deathtouch on its own is a good ability, since all of your creatures are guaranteed to trade for another card of your opponents'.
And I believe the Mana Leak/Sphinx argument is catered to the fact that this deck has no way of drawing cards outside of its initial seven and the one you draw per turn. The creatures aren't enough of threats for that to not be an issue like in Steel decks, either.
I like the way it works over at mtgthesource. The mods there seem to have more of a sense of humor about moderation, and it's really about keeping the community from being a dribbling mass, as opposed to just enforcing rules. For example, most of the mods are more likely to infract someone for being flamey or handing out ad-hominem attacks in a debate thread than the mods here.
Not to be offensive, but the mods' rules on some boards seem way too strict (and some are a little stupid or just reflect the laziness of the moderator), and they can get really anal about it.
Try starting a discussion about Marijuana legalization on the debate board, for example.
The only place I support strict moderation is the Trading Post, just because enforcing the little things definitely seems to mean that less big issues happen. Whether it's just the community or a direct effect of the mods being so strict about the smaller rules is something I don't know.
Do you know how few people buy weed out of Mexico now? Everything north of the Mason-Dixon line generally comes from private grow-ops, medical states, and British Columbia. South of that might be an issue, but I wouldn't know.
The thing with Mexican stuff is that it's usually incredibly low-quality, often referred to as "dirt" or "schwagg", and it's a lot harder to get drugs over the Mexican border than it is the Canadian border.
I don't know anyone who buys drugs from Mexico. If you do, don't let them smoke you out. I've heard the stuff is utterly horrid. Most of the people who buy this are kids who don't know how badly they're getting ripped off.
Is it weed that they're dealing? My understanding was that the Mexican drug cartels primarily deal cocaine.
Only trafficking really, coca mostly grows in South America. Now Meth, on the other hand, is a popular thing to make south of the border. And apparently Mexico is the second-largest Heroin supplier to the US.
This is a little off topic, but a deck was posted to The Source's Legacy section a while ago, and while it was pretty bad for Legacy, I'd think it at least warrants a peek for Modern. http://www.mtgthesource.com/forums/showthread.php?18346-New-Deck!-Seppuku-Samurai-Suicide/page2
Also, don't bump that thread, no matter how much you feel the urge to. It's just going to lead to another flame-fest.
I'm still going to say you need to splash green for Goyf in modern, and the removal of Stoneforge and Jitte is a bit of a hit to the deck. Maybe if you want to play Shadow though, this is your best bet.
Nobody's making any mention of the Boros deck that went 4-0. http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Digital/MagicOnlineTourn.aspx?x=mtg/digital/magiconline/tourn/2739342
I was hearing a lot of people saying that it wouldn't be as good as Zoo/Affinity elsewhere. Is this win a fluke?
Other decks of interest are the Death Cloud list in the 3-1 bracket yesterday, and the Soul Sisters deck from the same day in the same bracket.
Foil 7th Edition Goblin Matrons go up every year at a steady rate, doubly so for foreign ones. Just sayin'.
But seriously though, we have no idea.
At some point, many cards are going to be far out of reach for the average Joe.
Then we have to play Standard.
In all seriousness, every Dredge staple is a safe bet, especially now.
I'm still waiting for it to be a DCI-sanctioned event format, as it technically isn't one (according to one of the guys that runs my local shop, Wizards Event Reporter doesn't support Modern yet).
This originally started as a deck for Standard, using Zombie Infestation in conjunction with Bloodghast, Reassembling Skeleton, and Vengeful Pharaoh. Using recursive creatures to keep my field safe, while also drawing cards from spent creatures using Culling Dais. This engine allowed for a near-manaless control condition, leaving me mana to destroy lands and extra threats.
But, the deck lacked a strong card to make use of Infestation. It was then that I realized, "man, if only T2 had Squee." Well, Modern has Squee so I guess it's worth a shot.
The engine allows you to allocate resources to controlling the game while also giving you extra control via Zombie tokens and recursive removal and blocks, and even giving you an unblockable win condition in Nether Traitor.
The sideboard is obviously highly dependent on the overall metagame, as well as quite a few of the slots used in the MD. Cards like Smallpox easily become advantageous in matchups against aggro decks that rely heavily on not missing a land drop, Shriekmaw serves as extra removal and anti-Emrakul tech. If the deck needs to be more aggressive, Bloodghast and Demigod of Revenge quickly can shift the core build into a more aggro-oriented list.
I'm currently not running Shocklands due to the (somewhat weak, I'll admit) lack of control against stronger hands that Zoo might have. That life from fetching a shock could easily lose a close game.
Thoughts?

I am petitioning to get players to stop complaining about mythic rarity. Sig this to join the cause.
