Absolute crap. The textless foil card for playing in 20 tournaments is a foil common. Give us a break. This game is way too expensive to play competitively as it is, now you give us this crap?
The foil promo for 20+ events needs to be a current standard card that in its regular form is valued at $12-20.......not .15
Another EPIC FAIL by Wizards. I would complain even if the lightning bolt was the FNM promo...LAME
I ran raven's crime for a little while, and it used to be decent against the mirror, but I don't think so as much any longer.
Against an average player with a decent deck, raven's crime can crush them......wait till about turn 4, wrath, and then use ravens and a couple lands to empty their hand. Or, maybe use a counter or two, and then with the board clear, empty their hand, and yours refills way faster, giving you threats and answers.
However, I still run oona's grace as a one-of. If I already have a hand full of land, every 5cc player has had many times where you topdeck nothing but vivids when you need a wrath or an answer bad.....and I am willing to risk the crappiness of one card for spending 3 mana, just to keep me out of the late game all-land-hand.
You pointed out yourself how the instant speed and uncounterability are huge bonusses. Combine that with how your deck and how the meta is shapen (shaped?) up:
- Firespout takes out almost no more creatures than Fallout (tokens, 2/2 knights, stage1 fods, scullers, etc.). Only CGR giant itself and some RDW/DDW creatures.
- It's instant! Like jund charm, but then better.
- You are playing like 6+ walls with 4+ toughness, you don't combine those with lots of ***s if u can let 'm live with the red sweepers.
- You are playing like 6+ walls with 4+ toughness, you can keep all the bigger guys (3+ toughness) at bay for a long while. Wall of rev even stops the biggest like doran (hehe it's even 6/6 then), demigod etc. Not that these are played that often.
- etc.
Combination of instant speed, uncounterable, walls in deck, and low toughness creatures everywhere makes it live up to the hype I think ^^
Perhaps you're right. I will have to try it again. I have not been playing competitively as much as I used to, so perhaps I am out of touch with some of T3H NEW 1337 T3CH. I will take my spouts and one wrath out and give VF another shot.
Am I alone in not really liking volcanic fallout as much as everyone else seems to? Granted, my meta does not have really any fae decks anymore. But, I much prefer upping the Wrath of God count, and I even still like throwing in firespout as a one or two of. I usually run 3 Wrath main and 1-2 spouts main. I think Firespout and Volcanic Fallout are both great cards, although yes fallout is instant speed which is huge, and also uncounterable which is huge. But, I prefer to run more *** and FS. If they do happen to counter a *** or live through a firespout, there is always more mass removal on the way and it doesn't seem to be a problem.
IDK, anyone else think fallout is slightly over-hyped right now?
I love this card and cannot wait to use it. I actually get excited thinking about using it turn 1, lol. I drop a white-producing land, say go, they drop a land, I play silence. Turn 2, I drop a land say go, they drop a land and try to play something, boom...some type of counterspell. This card will make it even easier to get to the point where you can get solid board control, say 4-6 lands.
As almost all of the FNM cards are..........crappy art, crappy cards.
Finks would have been a good FNM card, 6 months ago.
Merrow Reejery would have been a cool FNM card A YEAR AGO.
It is like the Wall of Roots FNM cards.......yay, thanks for letting me use these in standard for like 2 weeks, lol.
All the FNM's I have been to are type 2, I don't know if every FNM in existence is type 2 or not, but, they should make the rewards cards things that are like up to the minute current.
Why not....

Maybe you are just burnt out. Nucklavee lock is just so awesome. And don't jump all over my a$$ about it, I am not saying that it is like this amazing tech that wins me every game I play......
I am just saying it has wonderful synergy with the deck (as a 1-of) and is really fun to utilize.
Personally, I don't think firespouts alone cut it. You need ***. Not as a replacement to FS, but in conjunction with. I run 3 of each, and then have 1 of each in SB, sometimes I take them out all together, sometimes I board in so I have 4 of both, seems to work well at least in my meta which is fairly aggro heavy.
I like hellkite overlord as a finsher along side of oona. As was stated, the overlord is hard to deal with, cannot be terrored, etc. It also has trample, and if you have a lot of mana out it can become very very large.
Also turn one raven's crime yourself and dump him into the graveyard, and then mannequin him out turn 4...awesomeness.
So according to almost everyone in the forum, tapping out to play six mana spells that don't immediately win the game (like cruel ultimatum) is a good idea. Cloudthresher allows your build to play control because he flashes in. Yes, you lose 1 in P/T --> cost ratio, but he comes in at instant speed. If you people were testing against real decks, you'd lose if you tapped out on 6-10 because you'd open up to get mind shattered, comboed out, cruel ultimatumed, etc. So this guy is absolutely not a 6 mana spell, he's a 10-14 mana spell because you still need the counter backup to keep the door shut on your opponent.
Depends on your meta of course. In the control vs control matchup I agree with you about the thresher, but I still think that against other more aggro/creature decks the broodmate can be good. Tapping out for a cruel ultimatum sucks also, especially when you do it, it gets countered, and then they cast one on you, lol.
I think the message in general that we all agree on is...yes, tapping out sucks....bigtime. But if you are playing against aggro/creature decks and run 2-4 mannequins, the broodmate can really provide some heavy defense, and I haven't been using it as a killing stroke/finisher, but more as a nice wall of 4/4's until I drop something like a hellkite overlord or an oona.
I think that broodmate dragon has potential, especially in terms of mannequin targets. Being able to mannequin out 2 4/4's at instant speed is awesome. You can block multiple targets, or block one target with 8 power toughness. I think it is a decent card totally. Thresher has flash, but can only absorb 7 damage and can only block one thing. I think the broodmate displays surprising versatility.
