Is anyone still tweaking this deck? I've recently been working on my own list & was interested to see if anyone's adopted Paradox Engine or any other cards from recent sets.
Narset is a big letdown for me. Was really hoping for an aggressively costed RWU general that had some fun tricks. Clunky 6 CMC, no evasion, no haste, conflicts with the card in the deck I want to build around in Sunforger. Blah... I wish I could just use Lightning Angel as a commander.
I'm hoping with these new wedge cards in Khans of Tarkir that UWR gets a new legend that's more equipped to swing a Sword & a Sunforger than their current options.
I favor monocolor decks myself and I have been playing monored for years. The big draw for me to go monocolored was that I could make decks that I could hone and hone to my hearts content without worrying about making a deck that was to powerful, it became a good way to avoid oppressive decks that were no fun to play against.
Monocolor always escapes the 'goodstuff.dec' trap that many 3-color decks fall into. "I'm playing green so I need this card. I'm playing white so I need this one too." You only get access to 1/5th the magic card pool plus artifacts and no gold card, you really need to dig deep to find answers to the weakness that is built into whichever color you have chosen.
Can Crypt Ghast be used in Mono B with the extort mechanic??
I've grown quite fond of Meekstone as a part of my Trinket Mage package in my mono-U lists. Buys me a few turns normally from all the aggro builds as I'm usually the target in multiplayer games.
In the process of making this competitive. Was getting bored of Mimeoplasm & Azami, wanting to make something a little different. The goal is to make an absurd amount of mana with elves and then go for the kill with Ezuri. This is my first attempt at it so let me know if I'm missing something.
Palinchron is a much more reliable win con than Temple Bell + Ulamog. I'd find a spot for him & his various combo pieces: High Tide, Phantasmal Image, Gauntlet of Power &/or Caged Sun to go infinite. Academy Ruins + Mindslaver is another easily accessible lock.
As far as cuts, I've never really had much success with the following: Baby Jace, Negate, Inspiration, & Draining Whelk. Crystal Ball seems unneeded with Trinket Mage + Top. Same Goes for Blue Sun's Zenith with Stroke of Genius. I'd also drop all the fetches and Islands for Scrything Sheets, Academy Ruins, Reliquary Tower, Minamo, Tolaria West & Snow Covered Islands for some more utility.
