If the answers available to BUG are sub-optimal (and I believe they are), then what questions do we present the opposition? What threats do we run? Back when i last played MTG, black had Grave Titan. Right now I have been building BUG and black has.... NOTHING in terms of creatures. I'm also reflecting on how best to make BUG control work. BUG appears very weak to hyper aggro, and the TEMUR midrangey beats backed up by 1-mana counters sounds equally terrifying. So, make the deck more proactive, ok... but building around the Sultai delve mechanic with Sidisi (i.e. high creature count) is not at all a control deck. The Saultai strategy that WoTC envisioned is not really very controllish. Jeskai seem better suited for control. In terms of being proactive and running more threats, I just feel like temur RUG is better. Stormbreath Dragon, Sarkhan, Nissa/Xenagos. Yeah.
Just continue to build around planeswalkers and removal and hope that it works out?
Yes, black is a support color in this deck. You only want removal spells. Prognostic sphinx is a great finisher.
How does agro even beat this? It's a 5 mana 5/9, just slap defender on there and call it a day, agro is looking very bad. How will they beat a 2 cmc 0/3,0/6 a 3 cmc 3/4, a 4 cmc 4/5,5/5, and a 5 cmc 3/5, and 5/9. Doesn't even seen like a good environment.
Wow... Some people in this thread come across as sore losers. If a guy says "good game" he probably meant it. One of the first things you learn when playing sports is to congratulate your opponent for making the effort to play. It's a common courtesy, and shows your opponent you're not a prick no matter how badly you beat them. I've never had an opponent get personally upset with me for saying "good game" but I make it a point to say "thanks for the game" instead to avoid potentially upsetting people who can't stand to hear a "GG" after they've lost.
In my local area, there is no such store, but when I go on vacation, to a different city, I don't want to go on a Magic shop scouting trip to check whether they have what I want, and I don't want to spend long distance fees to call up every store to see if they have them. As a person who collects precons, it has to be sealed, and not any other way.
So I ask you, what are the odds of finding a store that carries Conflux and Alara Reborn intro packs? In what region or city in the US and what region or city in Canada is there most likely to be a store where they sell older precons? What about the Minneapolis area, which I am currently in only for the weekend?
Since the chances I am going to be in these cities in person are low, what are the odds of these older precons selling out within let's say, a year? How about 5 years?
I've been to a store in Toronto, and it was treasure. I basically found the 2 shadowmoor precons I wanted, but that took me tons of scouting in the city to even find a single store that carries old stuff.
For now, I am looking for:
Lorwyn's Merrow Riverways and Elemental's Path
Morningtide's Warrior's Code
Eventide's Battle Blitz and maybe Superabundance
Shards of Alara's Esper Artifice and Primordial Jund
Conflux's Esper Air Assault and Jund Appetite for War
Alara Reborn's Legion Aloft and Dead Ahead
At least I ask you this so in the chance I do end up in one of these cities, I don't have to scout every store and be disappointed because they didn't have what I want.
Think about it like this, which is more expensive, you spending 30 dollars in gas going to every store in Minneapolis, or spending the 30 cents and calling them up and asking if they have what you're looking for.
Any deck competitive deck have to know how to survive wipe of any form. If you're playing a enchantment deck and this means game over, it's either the player's fault of the deck wasn't good to start with.
Mono Black Aggro survived board wipes by bestowing its creatures onto other creatures. Since the vast majority of MBA's post-rotation aggro creatures are all enchatments, this is like printing a 2CC instant speed "destroy all creatures and enchantments."
Whatever the case, this is a terrible reprint to be released right now IMO.
You have to remember control decks don't play green. You're not facing this and verdict on the same match up.
Aparently you didn't know Bant control was a deck.
Yeah... this is just bad, you will lose everytime to the tier one decks in the format. Minus the games you get lucky due to varience. If you're going to brew you will have to find cards that will beat the top decks in the format.
I agree 100% with what he said. I especially agree with coverage not knowing how a deck works, especially in a small format like standard. If it was modern or even legacy I would be forgiving. But it is your job as a coverage personale to know what every deck in the format is. If you can't devote 3 hours of your day learning the inns and outs of a small format like Standard, you shouldn't be doing coverage. I agree that the European side of coverage is a lot better. I also agree with starting with round 1. There are several well known players who don't have any byes at tournaments.
The most important thing I think is important is Tournament start times. If you're going to say that Coverage starts at Noon, you better be on the air at noon, or at the most 20 minutes late. 3-4 hours is inexcusable!
One other thing I would like to say is, It's 2014 If you can't get a 1080P video camera for doing coverage, something is wrong. I admit I didn't watch any GP DC coverage because I don't like watching limited, so I don't know if the video quality improved but, during GP chicago I thought I was watching coverage in fogged up mirror. That is simply inexcusable.
I think that Starcity games open coverage is the pedigree of Magic coverage.
What are your thoughts on the state of GP coverage.
