Yes it is. On the other hand, you're spending two important turns doing nothing - both of these cards have no impact. And then at third turn since you've started to cast your combo, you will deal up to 3 damage.
So while it's great against decks like UB Control (on the other hand Assemble the Legion alone wrecks them in long term), it's generally pretty awkward in some matchups (Aggro).
Yeah, I faced more aggro than anything. Some games I did get burned out or run out of removal before I could establish control, but pretty much any game where I got Assemble down, I won.
I think I would main Anger of the Gods, and then board in like..Warleader's Helix. Mizzium Mortars is still required for getting things that are too big for Anger of the Gods. I might need to try Chained to the Rocks for that, though
I think Rapid Hybridization and Syncopate deserve some consideration in this deck.
Prophet allows you to slam bombs and then untap and hold up massive syncopates, and Rapid is a good catch-all for certain threats that are hard to remove, such as Obzedat.
I played a UW heroic based deck today with some success, utilizing Gift of Orhova, Aqueous Form and Ethereal Armor as well as the Ordeal of Heliod and Thassa.
Several times had 14/15 flying first strike lifelink favored hoplite or fabled heroes..
Although this is a Sphere of Safety deck, I still feel like more Burn has a place here.
Warleader's Helix, Mizzium Mortarts, Lightning Strike or even Anger of the Gods..
anger on us doesn't matter that much with legions assembled and elspeth + hammer
edit: just realized guy before me just said that haha
I don't see why you wouldn't fit a few Boros Reckoners in here. Gives 3 devotion to both gods while also making the notion of attacking into you a less favorable one.
I would cut down at least 1 of each god, they don't seem like cards you want multiples of. And they are indestructible, so... quite difficult to remove for the most part.
I've told you several times how much I enjoy your video coverage. Usually very interesting to see your lines of play, explanations of the decks, and you often point out mistakes you make and how to recover or learn from them.
My only critique is to post them more often! ha, perhaps a series like a Modern Daily etc?
I love when Channel Fireball people post those series videos.

It looked great on paper, but I never saw my enablers and just flooded out.
Perhaps I need more testing before I judge, but the deck seems very inconsistent.
I do hope that a solid build does develop from this archetype because the MonoU/MonoB stranglehold on standard is so stale right now.

Especially if you can hold onto Anger of the Gods or Mizzium Mortars.
Clear their side, and pump out fresh creatures that shock every turn... not even counting attacks, it ends games quickly.
So far, the only concern I have is lifegain, but this could be a skewed perception from playing so many mono red and RW burn/aggro variants.

I was also interested in Messenger's Speed from Theros.

Chain to the Rocks is really cool.
As for the art, I am not sure.
Akroan Crusader is kool.
Messenger Speed, Fanatic of Mogis.
Vanquish the Foul is kinda neat.
Interesting to note, my professor at University has 2 cards in this set. Satyr Rambler and Chronicler of Heroes. By John Stanko.
