So you mentioned Strangleroot and Wolfir were the worst. I understand that many people are replacing the Avenger with VNH, but what about Strangleroot? What would be his replacement? I've found that he's a pretty clutch creature to have for surprise attacks versus Planeswalkers, or blocking.
Hello everyone! I've recently pieced together a Jund deck after trading off most of my Bant list. I still haven't created a sideboard yet, but have some questions concerning it.
What match up warrants Liliana of the Veil? What would we SB out in order to fit her in MB? The two Garruk's?
When are the Golgari Charms justified MB?
What are we using for artifact/enchantment hate? Naturalize? Ancient Grudge?
Those are just some of the questions I have for now! Thanks in advance for answering!
I actually see sundering growth gaining more relevance going forward, as more people get comfortable with the jund, bant, and America control lists. Plenty of keyrunes and detention spheres to blow up for value.
Yes! I was having these same thoughts! I see a lot of O-rings, Detention Spheres, and Keyrunes floating around MB G1. I was thinking about adding one or two MB for G1, but I'm not exactly sure what to remove.
MBC hasn't been an issue for me at all; it's RUG control with Tamiyos and Jace 4.0 that is giving me problems. I only played one matchup today, and I won it luckily. I've revamped my sideboard and got lucky on the draw. I was able to draw the sideboard answers I needed in time to respond.
Why do you board out Sigarda if your problem is tamiyo? She seems unstoppable against a RWU control list.
Yes, you are right. The reason I was boarding in Thragtusk was due to the board sweepers. Having Thragtusk exit the board and leave behind a beast token was my reasoning behind that. I will leave Sigarda in place next time.
My first instinct would be to run more threats, but maybe if Tamiyo is keeping you down try Triumph of Ferocity. If you can hold back their end game maybe you just outdraw them. It's not like their early board is great they have to jam sweepers. But if the matchup is that hard maybe no small increase in the number of cards is going to help. The other option is to run your own walkers. Garruk is pretty good against all the other walkers in the format. Especially Primal Hunter. This deck doesn't have Lingering Souls, Garruk's bane.
Then again I'm not sure why you are losing. You bring in Negate so as long as you figure out what to value .. ie when it's correct to let sweepers resolve you should be able to counter their walkers. Maybe it's a mana issue. You are tapping out in the same turns that they are playing their walkers ie T4-T5. You have no particular mana advantage and recognize your role as the aggro deck so you play out more proactively. Maybe the Negates aren't actually doing the work. You even have maindeck Rootbound Defenses. Maybe the problem isn't the cards, as much as the lines you are taking.
Maybe you can describe a bit more on how they are winning. Like how are they keeping back your Geist of St Traft...That card would seem to be good against most walkers. Are they an Auger of Bolas deck? Is it a pure abundance of Sweepers you can't keep up with? Do you just need more O-Ring effects? That seems unlikely mind you as you hopefully can keep pace on threats. Maybe cards like Increasing Savagery are wasted and you should board them for Knights. Not that Knights are particularly good but maybe it's a threshold of threats you need. Then again if you know the game will get dragged out why not just leave Sigarda in. It's higher curve but it isn't screwing you over particularly.
The problem is, I do board in 3 Negates, but that doesn't always mean I see the card in game. =( I feel silly, though, not making a mental note to realize that the PWs will start appearing T4+.
I've added two Garruk Primal Hunters to my SB now. I'll give it a whirl. =]
-1 Selesnya Charm
-1 Call of the Conclave
+2 Detention Sphere
Once Tamiyo seems to resolve, the game gets really really difficult to win. It seems most lists are running Entreats, making Detention Sphere great, but difficult to hold onto when there are both Jace 4.0 and Tamiyo on board. Any suggestions on how to beat this deck?
On the other hand, aggro and any form of mild control are easily handled by my deck. It is a lot of fun! =]
I run a Naya midrange deck that is just phenomenal. With the coming RTR rotation, I feel that Naya is at a disadvantage due to two of the three guilds we need don't have their shocklands printed.
Have you guys tested this deck? If so, how is the mana consistency? How does this deck stack up against other decks who do have their shocklands printed?
Armada Wurm is definitely out of this deck's scope. It requires too much commitment to mana dorks/farseek to reach it in time for it to make a difference on the board. Running only 4 mana dorks as you are, I would consider one of our best top of the line finishers: Sigarda, Host of Herons. Difficult to interact with, and it puts the opponent on a very short clock.
Augur of Bolas could be good, as it'll help you fish for other sorcs/instants, such as Conclave. =]
I must say, Increasing Savegery is pretty damn clutch, especially when thrown on GoST or Sigarda. It puts GoST, and almost any card out of Bonfire of the Damned way for many turns.
After reading some of your comments, I'm considering removing the two rancors and adding either two Garruk Relentless, or O-rings in their place. Please let me know what you think! Thanks!
I feel that a playset of Bonfires would find a good home in this deck. It could help clear the way for your swarm of humans to break through any possible stalemates or defense. I would replace Brimstones with the Bonfires.

Especially considering it helps thin the deck out, allowing us to draw threats/answers.

My play set of GoST though are a different story. I paid near full price for them. It hurt.
3x Centaur Healer
3x Detention Sphere
2x Rest in Peace
3x Negate
2x Sundering Growth
2x Garruk, Primal Hunter
I'm considering swapping Negates for Syncopates, though. Not sure yet. It's nice to be able to counter a big creature every now and again.
Edit:
Invisible Stalkers aren't all that great in this deck, unless they have Increasing Savagery or something similar.
Thanks!
Here's my updated list:
4x Geist of Saint Traft
4x Loxodon Smiter
3x Restoration Angel
2x Sigarda, Host of Herons

2x Azorius Charm
3x Feeling of Dread
2x Rootborn Defenses

A common occurrence for me is the following:
T1: Abundant Growth
T2: Call of Conclave/Strangleroot Geist
T3: Geist of Saint Traft/Loxodon Smiter
T4: Increasing Savegery - effectively making the beat down paired with all the combat tricks very effective.
4x Arbor Elf
2x Armada Wurm
4x Avacyn's Pilgrim
4x Loxodon Smiter
4x Restoration Angel
3x Silverblade Paladin
4x Strangleroot Geist
3x Sublime Archangel
