Pretty sure you can pay on mentors ability when geist hits since it would be a 2/2 then trigger it's etb for the 1/1's and pay for them individually as well.
Yikes!!! That's gotta hurt! But anyways! I do run 2x burial ruin to great success in my GW pod. Two colors can do that though. In a 3 color deck I think 1 is the perfect number. Your mana needs to be the right color and that card can set you back or force you to mull.
+1 wurmcoil engine
+2 ponder (alchemy is nice since it digs deep, but you don't have unburial rites or anything to capitalize off of throwing cards away.
I really like the disperse, I feel like it's tech right now and maybe unexpected. it's no Into the roil but we take what we can get. Also with the loss of a lot of the consecrated sphinx synergy, I think diversifying your finishers with a wurmcoil is a good idea.
I don't think bug will be better than bant. Not sure about junk, b/c blue is still useful. Even naya looks strong, more susceptible to removal it seems, but still it can be so fast w/ urabrask. I'm playing GW until I get hinterlands and ruinator, and even it is strong. The 2 colors allow less lands and more potent creatures. It's nice to have such a high chance of t1 dork into t2 beast within/birthing pod
Am I missing something or just really out of it from an all-nighter but does Birthing Pod actually CAST the creature? If not then why would you have to exile the three creatures with Skaab Ruinator as he says "when you cast" not "when comes into play".
No. That's why he is good in pod. That and the fact that you constantly kill your own creatures to win so casting him from the graveyard isn't the most difficult thing in the world. Also, the 4 turn clock the guy before me mentioned doesn't hurt.
With no dork in beginning hand, but with pod:
T1: Despise
T2: Viridian Emissary
T3: Pod (-2 life, unless Emissary has been killed)
T4: 2mc/3cmc creature, and pod that or the Emissary (if not killed), or a 4cmc
T5: ????
T?: Win
With dork, and pod:
T1: Dork
T2: Pod (-2 life)
T3: 2cmc/3cmc creature and pod or a 4cmc
T4: ????
T?: Win
So you like having a slower deck? It appears you just made the point yourself that having more dorks can allow you to win a full turn earlier. Sounds pretty good to me...
Maybe because Blade Splicer is virtual card advantage and Skaab Ruinator is a bad card posing as a good one.
Yes ruinator has nice stats but exiling 3 creatures from the yard is huge and you are unlikely to replay him more than once if that.
You also for this reason break your pod chain as you don't want to sac him after such heavy investment.
Sure you do, you pod him into something useful once you can recur him and then you have 2 good creatures. Why is this hard to understand? I'll take a 5/6 flier and some exiled cards over a 3/3 golem. He does cramp sun titan's style but hey, he has evasion and is dismember-proof. Nothing to scoff at.
Mono U is nothing more than a casual deck if you're only limited to standard. Would it hurt your strategy to splash black for some removal? You can still keep most of your effective counters. Not a bad idea since I can't even think of many good counters to build a deck around anyways.
