a 6/6 on turn 4 is pretty sweet. Even if it gives everything that touches it lifelink, you will be more than likely be killing off that creature. It'll usually end it grinding them out, just as Orzhov wants to do.
Soul Ransom is pretty good. It's Control Magic that says "Hey, if you want your creature back, discard 2 cards, and I get to draw 2."

And no, this doesn't allow you to put Smiter in play, since you're the person controlling the discard ability. It needs to be an opponent that forces you to discard.
This PW is not as strong as majority here thinks. How to kill/nullify her:
* Ignore her whenever she uses the +1 ability.
* As soon as she use her -3 ability turn attack her.
* In case your opponent go for the ult chances are you already own the game cause shes gonna pass 3 turns without landing him any help. And even if you don't win the game, you just had three turns to answer three 1/1 tokens, which should be extremely easy in any deck.
In the vast majority of cases shes 5 cmc maelstron pulse that prevents damage from one creature or spell. Imo her greatest weakness is the +1 ability that does nothing but protect her without landing the controler any help and the fact that her ultimate is beyond easy to answer, unlike most PW ultimates... Also she has a card time casting 2 pulses.. Imo the midle ability should be -2 or be execly like the pulse.
Jace is much, much better then her. He can prevent a load of damage against aggro decks (i would pay 4 cmc any time to prevent 1 from each of my opponent creatures) and buy you cards against control. His ultimate is incredible hard to answer (cause you have 2 decks of options) and easily turn the table if you're loosing and quickly finish the game if you're winning.

If your only way of killing her is by creature attack, you're boned. You're going to get 3-for-1'd all day by her all day
I am way too excited for this pre-release. Also, it has been 4 years since Zendikar's release. What I'm getting at is the possibility of there being FULL ART LAND. For those who don't follow:
Unglued, then four years later...
Unhinged, then four years later...
Zendikar, then four years later...
Return To Ravnica.
If this proves to be false, then one man can dream.
I definitely agree. I can count the number of Standard playable cards with my 10 fingers
Oblivion Ring, Serra Avenger, Sublime Archangel, Augur of Bolas, Disciple of Bolas, Murder, Mutilate, Sign in Blood, Vampire Nighthawk, Vampire Nocturnus, Acidic Slime, Farseek, Rancor, Thragtusk.
I left off the planewalkers, and I'm pretty sure some will see play, and I left out PLENTY other things that can enter competitive play. The set isn't as bad as people make it out to be.
This goes to show that Wizards are making the core sets less bland. Last set we had Goblin Piker, a vanilla 2/1 for 1R..Now we have a 2/1 for 1R that also gets +1/+1 if you have a swamp and regenerate. Kudos.
This sucks. Was totally expecting the allied duals to pop up in core, with the enemy ones popping up in RtR, that way all the shocks are available right when the new standard is up and running.
