Even though Serra Ascendant can be removed pretty easily, the decks that play it are also playing things like Lightning Greaves.
I personally think it should be banned as well. I've taken over games multiple times because of just 5-6 swings with it, and I've seen other people do the same thing.
Well, I've decided that I want to build a for-fun EDH deck this time.
I chose a Phyrexian theme because I started playing right hen new phyrexia came out, and the flavor of it just blew my mind. I hope to reflect how cool Phyrexians are with this deck.
The problem is, I have little to no knowledge on the lore/cards that make up the Phyrexia story. That's where you guys come in.
Absolutely any help is greatly appreciated, and I thank you all in advance for your help with my project.
Oh, and I forgot to mention. Budget isn't really an issue, and I still want this to maintain competitiveness.
I'm really on the fence about noble. I understand he's a good card, but nobody is really playing humans right now, at least where i'm at so that ability is pretty moot and I really only appreciate him if I can get him in my opening hand or at least on the draw. In my opinion, he's kind of a dead draw later in the game because your opponent has already stabilized enough to make him pointless.
I've been testing, but honestly the devil has been making me pretty happy lately, especially when I can get a volley off of him. Reeaaallly good feeling hah.
This is the list I've been running. I really like blue because I need some way to answer Thragtusk and Izzet Charm is great for digging through the deck faster
Yeah, blue is a ad color for it. I just had the duals for it so I went ahead and splashed it.
Unsummon I haven't even tested yet, but I thought it might provide me with some sort of tempo advantage. With all the ETB creatures running around though, I'm not too big of a fan.
As for Izzet Charm, I've noticed that it's one of the better cards in the deck. Being able to play 6-8 looters is awesome because Sligh doesn't really have digging power.
With all that said, I'll be actively trading for my Blood Crypts and Aristocrats. I feel like those are going to be much better.
One last thing. What's your opinion on Brimstone Volley?
I originally tried it out in the deck but it proved too slow for me. Should I give it another chance?
Well, I had no idea what to play for new Standard, and I pulled 3 Steam Vents, so I built a sligh-style deck.
I really want to move it in to Grixis for Falkenrath Aristocrat, Hellhole Flailer and maybe dreadbore but I'm not sure that I could support it mana wise.
No sideboard yet, but that's one of the reasons I'm posting it here.
Without further ado, this is the list I have so far.
I've been trying out Arbor Elf, and more often than not it was unable to untap anything. I feel like it will be much better once we get stomping Ground, but until then, it's just not good.
As for Strangleroot, GG is kinda difficult to hit on t2. I would run it for sure if it was G/r or G/w, but I don't think we have the mana to support it just yet.
Also, what do you guys think about Cavern of Souls in the build I posted? I feel like it could perform reasonably well with there being only 4 different creature types. It might have some conflict with all the duals though, so I think the mana base would have to be tweaked a little bit.
I've noticed a few things about the deck, however.
1.) Thalia is VERY good. A 2/1 First Strike for two isn't horrible, but her second ability is what makes her shine. Making opposing Bonfires, Golgari Charms, O-Rings, Supreme Verdicts, and Rancors cost one more can give us the tempo we need to push us over the edge.
The only problem I have with her is that she makes our Entreats, Farseeks, Rancors, Pillars, and Abundant Growths cost one more. I would still keep in Rancor, but Entreat and Abundant Growth can go, and Pillar can be moved to the sideboard if need be. If it still seems like we need the ramp/fixing, I would throw Borderland Ranger in, because not only does he fix our colors, he also can be rancor'd
2.) Sigarda is good as well. She is fairly easy to cast in this build, being as the only non-white producing land are basics and Rootbound. Being a 5/5 flyer with hexproof is already good enough for me.
So with that said, here's the new build that I've developed, and I think that it might fare a bit better.
This would be my revised build. It relies more heavily on creatures than the original build, and I think that it's the better way to do it.
I would probably move Pillars to the side, because they're much too good to not be playing.
Reevaluate the card as a vanilla 6/6 for 4. Stop misinterpreting the drawback as anything but. Because this is worse than a trained orgg once its on the field.
What are you even talking about?
Even a 4 mana 6/6 flyer is pretty good.
Clan defiance is the only one with constructed playability

How has Dynacharge been treating you?
4 Hellrider
4 Ash Zealot
4 Rakdos Cackler
4 Rakdos Shred-Freak
4 Searing Spear
2 Faithless Looting
2 Flames of the Firebrand
2 Annihilating Fire
2 Electrickery
4 Izzet Charm
4 Pillar of Flame
4 Brimstone Volley
11 Mountain
4 Sulfur Falls
2 Island
4 Syncopate
2 Annihilating Fire
2 Electrickery
3 Frostburn Weird
2 Traitorous Instinct
2 Flames of the Firebrand
Also, I see no reason at all to run Chainwalker over Shred-freak. Especially when you're in topdeck mode, haste is so much better than 1 more power.
Unsummon I haven't even tested yet, but I thought it might provide me with some sort of tempo advantage. With all the ETB creatures running around though, I'm not too big of a fan.

He's also the reason I'm considering putting Syncopate or Dissipate in the board.

Knight of Glory and Flames of the Firebrand are more cards to consider for the side.

I want to find room for Loxodon Smiter, Sublime Archangel.
Any input would be appreciated.
