Albums have to come out...eventually, right? I liked Pinata way more listening to it today than the first time I did. I found it to be a surprisingly involved listen, given the overall sound seems really inviting in an old school kind of way.
Truth. When it first dropped I was a fan ya know, but not flipping out on it. After these few days of re-listening to it, it's just such a fantastic project.
Holy *****, been forever since I've been around. For good reason, there's not ***** coming out lately....
Shabazz Palaces was a good listen.
Been re-listening to Pinata and Kismet (eXquire released an alternate version called Kismet Blue at some point, not sure when. Has more tracks and a lot of tracks of him talking about some songs before they play. It's good)
Dope, thanks for the link.
And what the **** did I just watch??? hahah That was really weird. And that's not even the weirdest Japanese commercial I've seen, but that one irked me. haha
Ah yeah Fantano was just talking about Sisyphus. Didn't sound like something I'd be into, but I'll check it out.
I feel you on the "real" hiphop releases. But it's still early. MadGibbs is dope as hell though. Not just saying that because of blind Madlib fanboyism either, ***** is legit.
Feel you on Ratking too. I love that single, but nothing else really stood out too much. Yet anyway.
SZA is dope, but not my cup of tea. But still respect.
Chance has been releasing singles?? Why haven't I heard of this? haha
I was jaded on Cudi after the release of Man on the Moon 1... Was hard in A Kid Named Cudi. That's it.
I've been getting deep into Japanese hiphop lately. haha ShakkaZombie, SD Junksta, Juswanna especially. (dont have to say Nujabes)
Edit: Just found out about this dude. He's also releasing something with Doom some time this year. http://bishopnehru.bandcamp.com/
I'm gonna start off by saying that I normally listen to a lot of metal (mostly thrash and traditional/old school with a bit of power metal) but I've found myself listening to a lot of rap/hip-hop lately. Mostly Wiz Khalifa and older stuff like Biggie, 2pac, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dog.
so I just thought I'd come here for more suggestions based on what's similar to those artists.
Check out Freddie Gibbs. He's been nodded towards sounding like Pac. Ima recommend his recent collab album with Madlib, Pinata. That way you get Freddie and one of the best producers in the game (ever) to pop your instrumental hiphop cherry. haha
Can't say much in the way of Wiz or current artists similar to the oldschool greats, but you might like the members of Black Hippy (Ab-Soul, Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, and Jay Rock), repping west coast.
Killer Mike and El-P , Run the Jewels.
Mr. Motha****in' eXquire, Kismet. (dont let the name deter you)
Kinda vague, so I'm just naming some albums that come to mind when I think oldschool vibe.
Not a lot being made in the way of olschool gangster rap (that I personally know of), but I definitely enjoy some newschool "ignorant" *****, A$AP Rocky and A$AP Ferg.
Edit:
Killer Mike, R.A.P. Music.
Mobb Deep
Nas
Joey Bada$$
I can't get into Black Hippy. I liked about half of Section.80, but I think GKMC is mediocre at best and I haven't heard anything from the other guys that I've liked. The best Kendrick lyrics I've heard have been in guest spots.
And yeah, 2014 has been slow as hell for hip-hop after that God-tier 2013.
You are ****in bonkers man! haha Black Hippy is soooo good, good releases all around.
Edit: I'm just givin you a hard time by the way. =]
Kinda sad but i jsut got my hand on a few new albums, i have Kendrick/ASAP etc. I havnt listened to either of them or anything new for that matter. I hope they are good i heard a lot of good things about kendrick.
EDIT: Just listened to ASAP rockys album and i was not impressed. It was mostly slowed down and the chopped/screwed "UH" in every song being spammed is pretty obnoxious. He does have a few songs that remind me of old school three 6 mafia though. I am now listening to kendricks maad city album so far it seems ok.
You can't go into any of the ASAP crews ***** looking for lyrical mastery or deep and profound meanings. Ferg's Trap Lord is one of my favorite hiphop releases in a loooong time and sure as hell isn't because he's spitting political fire. It's just fun, all of ASAPs ***** is just ignorant fun. Take it for what it is and you'll enjoy it. haha
Oxymoron is pretty decent. Apart from the singles (which I think are all dope), The Purge, Prescription/Oxymoron, and Blind Threats are some other tracks I liked.
Oh! Thank you very much man!
I KNOW I never ctrl+'d while I was here, but ctrl and the scroll wheel does the same, which I could've easily accidentally done. haha
Video from Action Bronson for a new single. Dope. Can't wait for this album.
