the quicker drafts go thru, the faster wizards make money .. 5 mins might not sound like a lot, but 5m less than 30m = 25m .. x 2 players = ~17% faster turn over for matches.
granted, not all matches reach the time limit, so its not a hard 17% but 'best' case for WotC is ~17%
an extra 17% revenue is massive
from a player perspective .. 5 mins less imo can also be problematic
30 mins was always a tight but fair fit for gameplay .. allowing enough time for combat math, tactical play, playing around perceived threats and so forth
5 mins less might not seem on paper like a lot, but it just feels rushed ... its like "well, we've got your $ now so just hurry up and win or lose so you (or your opponent) will hop on the next draft and feed us some more cash.
yeh yeh rounds will finish faster etc but really .. is it about who can work the clock or who can think it through and play a tight game without having to keep one eye on the timer?
(on a slight side note -- let's have the red text and ticking warning 2 with 2 mins to go .. not 30 sec.
shorter timers says draft aggro .. forget about control or anything else 'experimental', just conform or lose to the clock
anyways - that's my $0.02 worth ..
to conclude
25 mins each SUCKS
