While there's some really cool flavor and art to the set it seems very underpowered. Not only do there only seem to be a couple of really powerful mythics / rares, the commons and uncommons are mostly just bad.
I can't believe all the Tribute cards seem so terrible.
If anything, I am disappointed this wasn't a Big Spoiler on the MtG mothersite. I mean this is all about him, it is his block, his plan, his REVEL! And he gets spoiled on Instagram? Lame. I was hoping to see some cool story text on the daily MtG homepage...
He's still my favorite God so far. Revels forever! Yay!
To satisfy my curiosity, if you buy the base game only, you can still play all the decks eventually, right? And given enough time you can unlock everything for each deck by winning enough games with each deck?
Ours is actually down quite a bit since last summer. FNM was consistently 20-30 people and now regularly has about 12-15. Not sure why. Competition is OK, everyone is pretty friendly. There are a few other LGSs nearby, but from what I've heard their FNMs aren't very large either. We did lose quite a few kids who went off to college so that's part of it.
My problem with Gideon is that in order for you to get any kind of decent + on him your opponent has a bunch of creatures. If your opponent has a bunch of creatures you are likely behind and Gideon is not helping you catch up.
Unless Wizards seriously address the issues of card prices then Modern FNM will be a joke for a long time at first since it will be pay to win.
With Standard people trade a lot and pay a comparatively small amount of money, so the majority can have all the cards they need. That is simply not the case with modern.
Wizards should not bow down before collectors, they should serve those who actually play the damn game. They should flood the market with Modern Masters. Tarmogoyf and pals should be $15, not $100
Agree with this. If a modern deck is going to cost me $1000 then I simply won't play the format. My standard deck already runs some staggering dollar amount, but if I want to switch to another one I can pretty easily (because I keep full sets of lands and staples on hand). This is simply not possible in modern without a whole lot of monetary investment through the secondary market.
Matchups were Jund x 3, W/g Aggro x 2, W/u Aggro x 1, and UWr Control x 1.
Vs UWr he scooped when it was clear he would deck before I did in game 1. Game 2 he milled me with Jace, Memory Adept, and game three I "skillfully" ran turn 2 Farseek, turn 3 Farseek, turn 4 miracle Entreat the Angels and he didn't have an answer.
Congrats on the split! My deck which has been performing marvelously is very similar to yours except I'm running a 4/2 split on Terminus / Supreme Verdict and a pair of Syncopate's in the main instead of Entreat / Cyclonic Rift.
With only 4 board wipes and 2 charms are you still able to deal with very fast starts by WU Exalted / RG Zombies? Or is the maindeck inclusion of Centaur Healer a reaction to that? I have found that if they open fast I pretty much have to board wipe or Thragtusk by turn 5 or I'm dead, but I'm not running Healer in the main deck.

And doom blade. Yeay 2 for 1.
I don't see why a 3/1 haste or a 5/3 haste for 4 is really that exciting.
Reddit actually...
yep
It may not have Thoughtseize, but we still have Ooze, Mutavault, 2 new Planeswalkers which are always inflated at release, plus whatever else we see.
This is correct.
Elf doesn't tap for mana by itself...
