Also, this is going to be the beginning of me not being around much. I'll miss you guys, and I'll try to pop in every now and then.
EDIT: Snow, the challenge was intended to apply to your new card type, so it didn't even occur to me when I was looking at your creature side. It seems like, so far, the other judges felt the same way so I'll rule that you don't get that challenge point. It's a really great design, regardless.

I don't know if the video game power metal just made me super picky or if I'm just grumpy today, but I noticed a lot more mistakes than I'm used to seeing in round three.

Also, void_nothing, the deadline is technically 11:59, but we always use the term midnight when discussing deadlines so I'm going to be generous and say that you aren't disqualified. Don't cut it so close next time.

Guys, don't forget that the player deadline is tonight. It might be tomorrow before I have brackets up, but there have been a lot of people missing the deadline lately and it always sucks to have to DQ someone because of it.

Does the card have to have the new subtype, or can it refer to it? (I'd imagine this is a bad idea anyways, but it's nice to know what my options are.)

You know, why not. Pretty much all bands and songs are banned on Youtube in Germany, so I just hope this is the one: //www.youtube.com/watch?v=_JcRKecsPNs">"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_JcRKecsPNs
I'd imagine it actually sounds great when you can't understand the lyrics.
It's based on a very silly children's song. That might sound creepy and scary, but it really isn't, it's just silly.

Judgement has come. I listened to music while at it too, you know? But it was weird german hard rock that defines it genre with "alternate music", so I'll skip giving you links to it.

About the next month. The MCC challenges and scoring system has been the same for a very long time now. I'm cooking up rounds right now but I find that often the requirement of having two challenges can really limit the creativity of the players, because most players will naturally look for cards that meet both. For some of my ideas this results in players submitting very similar cards. To counter this, the 'main challenge' needs to be very broad.
What would you think of variably allowing the organizer to decide the number of challenges per round between 1 and 2? I think that it will result in less convoluted cards when challenges arent needed if the main challenge is good enough. In terms of the MCC judging that would just reduce the maximum amount of points from 25 to 24 for a round with only 1 challenge, so that it does not confuse long-standing judges too much.
I also think that it is especially a good thing to do for Round 1s, because it allows for more specific and evocative main challenges in the kin of the CCL, and that could potentially bring in more players and halt the freefall of MCC attendance.
Oh and don't worry, I am well aware of the differences between MCC and CCL, and the rounds will never be as specific and story related as the CCL rounds can sometimes be. I just have some ideas that are not necessarily flavour related, more 'practical' in nature related to the actual game of magic.
To be perfectly honest, whenever possible, I try to make my challenges cut off the obvious route for card design (For example, a requirement to create a card with no mana cost will almost always have a "Is not a land" challenge from me). In the absence of an option like that, my challenges are essentially random.
I have no problem with, especially in early rounds, having less or no challenges.

It kind of was in the clarifications: There were links to existing keywords and existing keyword actions, where the difference between them and ability words was properly explained. The problem is, as we were supposed to design entirely new keywords, there is little incentive in visiting links that point to existing ones. Therefore, I found out about my mistake when it already was too late.
Seeing the second round, I fully understand why they had to be so strict. My advice would be: The stricter the round (for whatever reason), the more thorough the clarifications should be.
In short, I am saying that with better clarifications, most of the DQs could have been avoided. I do not mean to discredit the volunteering work that goes into hosting an MCC, I am merely offering my advice to prevent such unfortunate things from happening again.
I fully agree that the clarifications should have been more thorough. The problem with that is that it's awkwardly difficult to assess what parts of your knowledge other people don't possess. I personally never had problems differentiating keywords and ability words, but it took me ages to understand the difference between a keyword and a characteristic defining ability. Hell, I'm still not completely familiar with the spiderweb that is layers. Mostly, I rely on others voicing their confusion to add stuff to clarifications. =/
EDIT: Just for clarity, HERE is a really concise description of the differences between a keyword and an ability word.
