I don't think its ever a bad card. Its good enough against everything that I'd feel fine about running it maindeck. I'm just trying to think ahead and do some metagame planning though. If the metagame was dominated by midrange creature decks and aggro decks I'd probably play Voice of Resurgence in the sideboard and try to find a 2 drop that was better against those opponents.
This is pretty much why I believe this guy is a staple.
He is good against everything.
The only reason not to run him, is if your meta is completely warped and you are building specifically to hate out the meta.
Sometimes familiarity with the deck counts for more then card optimization.
Or even surprise factor or playstyle.
(give a terrific aggro player the best control deck card for card, and a tier 2 aggro deck, which will he do better with?)
The last gameday I went to, I won because of surprise factor, and I was more familiar with my deck then what were the best decks at the time.
I think the notion of mid-range is messy. Mid-range is slower aggro and less card-advantage-y than control, but that is a broad spectrum and doesn't communicate the goals of the deck. As far as I can tell, mid-range means you may use Thragtusk and Huntmaster and that's it.
Anyways, if we go to having more subsections, I'd prefer Aggro/Control/Combo to adding mid-range.

Id say the mid-range strategy is to stabilize and then overpower aggro with larger, high quality threats.
And beat control by playing better/more threats then they have answers.
Zombies is a litmus test for competitive decks.
If you can't beat zombies, you're prolly not that competitive.
Its a fast resilient aggro deck, with decent reach.
Zombies is absolutely dangerous.
unfortunately it lost quite a bit in rotation, mortar pod was such an integral part of the deck, it gave it so much more reach and made tragic slip amazing. And then of course pillar and terminus have become rampant.
Zombies has shaped the current meta, the removal in the format is hate based for zombies.
so there is no reason to play zombies, because you're walking into a meta designed to hate you out, while you are also less powerful.
But only if you have T1 mana dork, T2 land and Reckoner, T3 Domri Rade... thats half your hand right away, not necessarily ridiculous.
Also kind of useless if they don't play creatures...
If by useless, you mean, unchecked draw engine, ok.
And yeah, it only happens that way if you have the cards to play in your hand... and playing cards from your hand reduces your hand size...
I don't see how those are arguments against playing domri, since every card has to follow those conditions.
Also, when did I say it was ridiculous? And when did the standard of playable cards become "must do something ridiculous"?
Abrupt Decay hits it.

I guess drawing 19 cards would be overkill.

Youre welcome.

My excitement is considerably less now that I've played with it.
Still saved me a couple games tho.

With Boros reckoner running rampant, is this an answer?
Or is its mana cost too prohibitive?

This is actually what I was getting at (in a roundabout way).
M13 has one of the fewest amount of constructed playable cards.
But Thragtusk and Thundermaw are format warping.
