Sensei's Imbibing Sot - take a drink every time you spin the Top.
i get that the idea is to get drunk but.....
a.) do you want to go all vomitron right away!
b.) do you want to make top make games even longer than it already does
Rule - When youre knocked out you can give out drinks based on your rank. If youre the first person knocked out in a 4 player game, give out 3 drinks (these can be shots, but im a fan of getting drunk while being able to play multiple games). 2nd to be knocked out gets to give out 2 drinks, third to be knocked out gives one.
Rule - Every time someone complains, if theyre called out on it, they drink.
Rule - If someone does something to delay the game for no reason (casting obliterate with no plan or mana to float), they take chug the tequila bottle, then they chug the vodka bottle, then they get ball-tapped by every opponent for each drink that opponent has drank in this round.
Sounds like the 1985 Bears or the 200 Ravens or any other team that won the championship with a stifling defense and then pounced on any openings they had to win.
Seems like a strong way to play to me. Why is it bad when magic players do it but the saying "defense wins championships" is so common in sports?
the 200 ravens were a great team. Really taught us the fundamentals.
But even all that is just irrelevant to me when you get right down to it. We double the life to give players a chance for their deck to survive due to the inconsistencies with a 100 singleton format. Don't draw what you need in time and your opponent has a threat up? No problem. You got some turns to draw what you need. Now with infect your time to respond is a 1/4 of that.
This is what gets me, and its not just you CobraShuttle, youre just the last person to mention it (so sorry for singling you out =)
So many people complain that this is a multiplayer format, that 1v1 is full of competitive jackasses, and this game is SUPPOSED to be played multiplayer. These same people complaining about this format needing to be multiplayer are the ones who still view things like infect in a vacuum of 1v1 (once again, im not saying that you, cobrashuttle think that all 1v1 people are jackasses, ive just used your quote). With 4-5 spot removal spells per deck, 4 players, 1 person running infect, so 12-15 spot removal cards to deal with 1 creature with infect thats going to slam you. If you've all built your decks properly, that BSC should be fine. Im not even including things like icy manipulator, wrath effects, cryptic command, etc. Theres so many ways to deal with one pesky creature. The ONLY infect card that seems cheap is Tainted Strike because thats a kill out of nowhere. Almost no one is complaining about tainted strike, its all complaints about a very manageable, very vulnerable creature.
Its not just ONE person against the dude with the infect, its the table against the dude with infect. Sure, someone might get knocked out before the spot removal is used (let someone die so its easier for me, okay, now bsc is coming at me... time to STP), but how is that any different than Leyline of the Void/Helm of Possession? How is it any different than Hinder/Tunnel Vision? Sure, i guess you could say "its one card" but i think those combos are way stronger than BSC or anything infect could do... against well made decks.
There are 3 cards that make infect worthwhile (maybe 4): Skythrix, BSC, Tainted Strike, and Inkmoth Nexus. I only throw Inkmoth in there because it can add up over time and ive won a game with it in a deck that has no other infect creatures or ways to infect.
I havent run across to many infect decks, and honestly, the Skythrix decks ive seen fall apart to a swords to plowshares or an oblivion ring (or a capsize, or proper land denial, or a counterspell, or a go for the throat, or a...) I also play 1v1, so its even harder to hit it there. Honestly, my azusa deck has problems with it, and thats it. Even then, i can usually race it, or constant mists it away. If it becomes a huge problem, i'll throw in a plummet effect or two.
To the person stating that this is "format defining" is completely incorrect. Its four cards. There are so many bigger, nastier creatures that i run removal for its absurd. The fact that that same removal also hits infect creatures is just in the clause that it is a creature... If youre building your deck properly, you'll have enough removal to deal with problems.
A huge blind spot in the EDH community is spot removal. Everyone thinks Wrath of God effects are the go-to removal spells... Theyre Not. Not even in Multiplayer. Sure, Wrath kills more things at once, but there will be many more times that a simple Swords to Plowshares will be the better choice. You should have more targetted removal in a deck than wraths (in most decks of course, hell, read everything i say as "in most decks" because i know someone is going to say "in my LEGENDARY CREATURE X deck every wrath helps me out 100%!" You can replace WRATH with any card ive mentioned). It lets you keep your board presence while stripping threats away.
Anyhow, poison counters suck at times. The one time that the guy went swamp, dark ritual, sol ring, mana vault, chrome mox, skythrix sure sucked! -- THAT HAPPENS IN ALL SORTS OF EDH DECKS! Sometimes you luck sack into a crazy draw and you beat hard in turn 2 and we've taken longer to shuffle our decks than to play a multiplayer game with 10 people. Does it mean we should make rules up? Ban cards? Change the way things function at a base level? Not to me. Is BSC ruining your gaming circle's time? Ban it in your gaming circle, dont ban it in mine. If someone comes up and wants to play BSC, bribery it every time and attack them, kill them, flip them off, flip over the table, drop your pants, and just crap on their cards. I dont care, but dont make me not play with it 1000 miles away from you.
Yeah, i use it in my enchantress deck. Its not nearly as good as Enchanted Evening and Cleansing Meditation, atleast thats not sitting on the board waiting to happen.
I have a question. So if you exile phage the untouchable with Karn liberated and restart the game, does her "you lose the game" ability still trigger? Or is she on the battlefield before the game begins, making her trigger ability irrelevant?
you'd lose i think. Youve already restarted the game, THEN you put everything in play, so theres a game already in progress to lose.
Gosta Dirk (extremely overcosted, but has first strike and a useless ability most of the time) Ur Drago (see above) Ramirez DePietro (4/3 first strike for 6)
Sylvan library is amazing because it can also give you card draw. I think with those four, you should be fine. Dont forget to add other random draw spells.
Here's the thing: Legacy card prices are skyrocketing right now, not so much the ones you named, but many are. I feel like this is the time to buy, or you'll miss out much like many of us did when underground sea was 20 dollars one day, and 100 the next.
Force of will was 40 dollars 2 months ago. Keep that in mind.
Gaea's Cradle was 30 dollars 2 months ago, now i saw one at 45 and i snatched it up immediately, because the rest are at 60-70 and rising.
