I saw this thread before I went to work and thought about it all day. Instead of X=2 or X=3. Why don't we go bigger? Like 9/9 Haste big. Let's make X=5 Immortal Servitude.
With X=5, it gives us access to one of the premier creatures in the format. Thundermaw Hellkite. 5 CMC seems to be the magic number since there's also Wolfir Silverheart, Thragtusk and Zealous Conscripts in that slot. Ideally we'd like to cast Servitude for X=5 with a Wolfir Silverheart, Thundermaw Hellkite, Thragtusk then Zealous Conscripts in ranking order. I've also included Fervor there if we want to go all in with the Thragtusks and Wolfir Silverhearts as well
The issue actually arises from getting the creatures to the graveyard. With Rest in Peace safely in everyone's sideboard, we don't want to leave our fatties in there for more than 2 turns. Balustrade Spy lets us mill ourselves until we hit a land. How do we then minimise our land count in the deck?
Farseek, Ranger's Path, Caravan Vigil, Evolving Wilds. Well first of all, we'd need to get to 8 mana, to even cast Immortal X=5ervitude. So with this amount of ramp, it shouldn't be an issue. Faithless Looting allows us to filter through and find Immortal Servitude and Balustrade Spy.
Now that I think about it, why don't we just play Primal Surge?
Only 4 cantrips? I'd be inclined to play more. Quirion Dryad grows, you draw a card. Why not? YOLO right?
Hands of Binding is Frost Breath that triggers Quirion over and over again. It seems that you still get ahead on the board state.
I don't think this is Delver as we knew it before. This tries to be a midrange-board control. Delver to 3/3 Centaur to Geist of Saint Traft to Hands of Binding seems to be the best line of play here. There's an attractive removal/permission suite going on with Selesnya Charm, Mystic Genesis and Spell Rupture. And there's definitely creatures to squeeze value off of these spells but it looks wonky as the 'traditional' Delver deck, but excellent as a midrange-control deck.
Part Super-grow part Delver deck, the deck is synergistic with the use of a T2 Quirion Dryad and then playing spell after spell in the following turns to grow the Dryad. Inspired by Team Mana Deprived Quirion Delver Deck at WMC 2012.
The new cards from RTR and GTC are Syncopate, Simic Charm, Rapid Hybridisation, Hands of Binding and Inaction Injunction. Syncopate slots in as the Mana Leak replacement.
Simic Charm is 3 spells on one card. Giant Growth as a pump; Unsummon for tempo and blocker removal; and the hexproof can work as another counterspell
Rapid Hybridisation is unconditional removal. It does leave a 3/3 on their side, but with Simic Charm-Unsummon, and the detain effects, it shouldn't be an issue. It can also turn your 2/1 Snapcaster Mage into a 3/3 beater instead.
The Detain on Inaction Injunction can be devastating in taking away a blocker and attacker for 2 turns, and cantrip because why not.
Hands of Binding does the same as Inaction Injunction. On the first cast, it can be as much as 'detaining' 2 creatures. Ciphered to a Quirion Dryad, the cipher triggers for another +1/+1 counter.
