Nope. They have an infinitely better card called Wurmcoil Engine in the 6 slot. All of the deck's win conditions have (Emrakul/Ulamog/Wurmcoil) have build in defense. This thing is just a 6/6 do nothing by comparison.
For the record, I don't think this is referring to Confidant. That said, I don't think the card would disrupt standard at all. Standard is dominated by midrange for the most part, aside from the RDW variants and a few weenie builds.
My big problem with Jace is that he doesn't look like Jace. He looks like some Azorious poliician. Honestly, if you switched the clothes, I wouldn't able to tell it was Jace.
Really, really good. Board it out for Perish in certain match-ups, but its is fine maindeck removal. My Deadguy Ale deck will love it: 3 mana, wipe the board, hit all of those annoying Mother of Runes, leave batter out there, swing to get back the life you lost. It's also nice that I can hit Snapcasters, Confidants, Cliques, Mother of Runes, BoP, Noble Hierarchs, and Lavamancers without knocking off my Deathrites or SFM. It's good.
Curves into Liliana of the Veil? I don't mind turning Hymn, or Thoughtseize into card advantage either. This is one of those cards that it's hard to judge its playability right away. Honestly, I love the thought of Hymning my opponent off of this, hitting a land and a creature...then casting another Hymn off the BB...and if we're lucky it'll be in standard with Sire of Insanity for a bit.
This has probably been posted before...but I think there's more of a rationale behind it now. Since its most recent banning, Deathrite Shaman and Scavenging Ooze became legacy staples...actually to the extent where Reanimator and Dredge have been pushed out of the meta in most cases. Add to that the fact that Survival/Vengevine couldn't go off before turn 3, and I think you have a strong case for bringing it back. The synergy between Survival and Vengevine is amazing, but part of that was because plenty of decks didn't have access to solid graveyard hate. You basically had to board in your Tormod's Crypt or mulligan to an opening Leyline of the Void, else you were done for. Now that so many decks are main-decking Oozes and Deathrites, I think the return of Survival would shakes things up a bit, but not break the format like it used to. Even decks like Mono W Death and Taxes have Phyrexian Revokers maindecked and Rest in Peace for the board. I think it'd be fine. Thoughts?
Modern is not a blue based format. Look at the Tier 1-2 decks in Modern. RG Tron, Melira Pod, Jund, BG Rock, Burn, Naya Zoo, Junk, Gruul Zoo, Aura Hexproof, Death and Taxes, GW Hatebears, Living End, Soul Sisters, Dredgevine, and Tokens all don't run blue. The dominant colors in Modern are red and green. Every tier 1 deck and every tier 2 deck except for Soul Sisters, Tokens, Death and Taxes, Merfolk, Mill, UW Tron, and Mono U Tron has red or green as one of its main colors. Blue doesn't even come close to that.
Death and Taxes is a legacy deck, dude. It relies on SFM, Wasteland, and Rishadan Port to be any good. Dredgevine isn't really a deck anymore...not since Deathrite and Ooze became dominant. You also omitted pretty much every Uxx control, combo, or midrange deck there...
The only reason blue isn't running rampant all over modern (like it used to) is because of the Ponder/Preordain.
I'm also pretty sure that Cryptic Command, Geist, Snapcaster Mage, and Vendillion Clique are a few of the best cards in modern.
The game is now 100% creature focused. From a standard perspective, if a color has bad creatures, it will be used, at best, for a token few utility spells.
If a color has bad creatures, it is pretty much a bad color.
Wh-wait-huh-wha...? I can't think of a format this statement even applies to. Some of the best modern and legacy decks will run 4-8 creatures and the rest of the deck will be manipulation and control. Even with standard...I'm pretty sure that Esper control is a thing. GW on its own is meh. Naya is good. Junk is good...but really not any more than RWB. I don't even mind letting someone discard out their Loxodon Smiter...like every GW creature other than Voice, it's just a removal target. Creatures are being pushed because they were historically just bad against control and removal. Green was supposed to have the advantage over blue in the color pie...and that is still not even the case. Control decks in eternal formats just splash white for Stoneforge, green for Goyf, black for Confidant, and both for Deathrite. And now I feel like I'm contributing to the problem by actually acknowledging this thread. Thanks!
I think I figured out what really bothers me about Erebos. It's the only one of the cycle that you can't build around. The static effect the others have affect either your board or your deck, whereas hers affects your opponent, which may or may not have a single card that can gain life in it. Conversely if you want an inexpensive draw mechanic Underworld Connections is vastly better as it comes down a turn sooner, costs less "mana" to activate and you lose less life from it. The only benefit is being a 5/7 which is nice but still a bit disappointing given how weak the first effect is and how infrequently you can use the activated ability.
Uh, you know that you can activate the draw ability multiple times right? He's an indestructible draw engine that gets better as the game draws out. Plus, he and the blue god are the only ones that can actually refuel their devotion.
The reaper feels like it could end up like Deadbridge Goliath. Good in limited, but outclassed in Standard. We'll see.
And flavorwise, I don't approve of needing to pay for deathtouch. All gorgons should have some passive kill ability.
The difference being that the Gorgan has protection and the ability to stack your deck...until it hits the GY, the Goliath is just a 5/5 vanilla that gets chumped all day. This guy serves the beat-stick function, but can also net you cards you need. You can also look at it effectively giving all of your removal scry......and scry stacks...so the more you have in play, the better it gets. I could be wrong, but deck manipulation in GB aggro that activates merely by playing like an aggro deck seems decent.

Don't worry, it's a legacy staple. It'll eventually hit the same price mark as Stoneforge.
