I've been having this problem a lot lately, I either draw way too much land or hardly any, and yes, because of it I am planning on walking away from playing standard. I don't really want to quit playing, I enjoy it when things don't go horribly wrong like they have been, but it's just been so frustrating lately. For now I'm going to stick to playing EDH, maybe some day in the future I'll give standard a shot again, but for now I'm done.
On the old forums all of my unread threads showed up in bold print with the jump to first unread post button beside them. Now it seems I would need to actually read every single thread before it notes that there aren't new posts. All I care about are the posts since my last visit. I don't need the icon next to a thread to remain blue forever. It would be nice and very convenient if this functionality would come back. I'd like to see the most recently updated threads in bold print with a blue icon next to it to jump to the first unread post. If I come back to the forum two hours later, then threads that I chose not to read two hours shouldn't still be showing new posts. This makes browsing more confusing because I'm contstantly trying to figure out if the the thread with posts from eight hours ago was a thread that I've already seen. I don't feel that asking for this is too much.
Also on this same note, it was nice seeing the little check mark on the thread envelope icons for threads that I had posted in. I can't seem to be able to tell now if I've posted in a thread or not.
This, x1000. This forum is almost unusable if I can't tell what threads I've read and what threads have new posts and can't go to the first unread post like I could before. This has been driving me nuts, I'm glad I'm not the only one having a problem with it.
For iOS (don't know if it's available for any other platforms) try UMagic. I found it while searching for Orcish Librarian when it started crashing on iOS 7. So far it seems to be pretty good. I can search for cards just like OL and it shows the TCG prices like OL does. It's free (with ads which can be removed for $0.99) and has a pro option for $3.99 that I will probably never need to go get. Like I said, I like it so far.
Hey guys, so I got this mat, but there are creases in it from it shipping and the shop not straightening it out when they got it.... anyone have some safe tips on how to remove creases from these playmats?
I've got the same problem with mine. Anyone got any suggestions?
I did horribly today, ended up 11th out of 17. I did get to have a little fun though, my opponent got his Tamiyo, the Moon Sage ticked up to 8 and I dropped my Zealous Conscripts, he had no choice at that point but to Searing Spear his own Tamiyo. I didn't get the emblem, but it was still fun and I ended up winning the game anyway a few turns later.
I use them in fat pack boxes and they don't interfere with the box closing, they also work great in the new holiday box, and of course they work in the big four and five row cardboard boxes.
Do not use Hellion Crucible. It looks good on paper, but the risk of getting stuck with a 2 land game with no double red for your Ash Zealot is so terrible.
I had that happen to me today for the first time, not fun. I do still like Hellion Crucible though, I only run two so it's not going to be that common and that Hellion token can be a real threat.
Also, why isn't Mizzium Mortars more popular? It's the same mana as searing spear for four damage instead of three, and it can be overloaded to wipe the board.
I'm doing all right in standard, I don't think RDW has enough right now to be over the top good, but it can get there.
Mortars is a sorcery and only hits creatures, Spear is an instant and can hit players too.
Yeah, I'm tossing around the idea of putting Rakdos Shred-Freak in the deck.
I guess my biggest issue is that I went into building RDW with the idea of playing super burn style, but there really isn't enough good burn to make that a real deck. So now it's going to come down to finding the best creatures to just beat face with (though obviously I think some burn needs to stick around).
I do have a couple of Krenkos laying around from M13 drafts, it may be possible to go monored goblins, but that's not exactly aggro enough for me.
I love me some goblins, but without Goblin Chieftain it just doesn't seem worth it to me.
There isn't really a lot of good burn right now, that's why most of the RDW decks are pretty creature heavy. My build is running four of on Pillar of Flame, Searing Spear, and Brimstone Volley and the rest is creatures.
I tried running this at my LGS standard last night. It did decently the first couple of rounds (2-0, 2-0) but then just got dominated by BG Zombies. Final match was against UW Miracles, and were it not for a last-second miracle, this deck would've won.
I really like Vexing Devil, but I just can't decide if I want to go spell heavy or creature heavy. If I'm going spell heavy, I probably want to put in a Guttersnipe or three. But if I'm going creature heavy, I need to know WHAT other creatures would make this deck win a lot faster (BG zombies was too fast for me) because I already know I'd cut Thunderous Wrath -> Bonfire -> Flames.
I really think you need a full playset of Ash Zealot. That's the best two drop creature red has. You might also want to look into Rakdos Shred-Freak, it may only be a 2/1 but the haste is very good.
Built to go 1 drop, 2 drop, chieftian, kill you on turn 4. Krenko in the sideboard because he isnt that good against Infect or Delver, and there is a lot of that around here. Dismember for infect; Red Sun Zenith as pillar of flame no.5 against zombies. Batterskull for zombies (pretty funny on a spikeshot elder, FYI). No cards for the control decks because I just am not seeing enough of them to warrant it.
Happy to answer any questions.
Your decklist looks good, but it only seems to be 56 cards. What are the four missing cards?
I really don't think 22 lands is going to be enough for the list you're running. You've got 6 4-drops in there and if you reliably want to get four lands on the board on turn four I just don't think 22 is going to do it, even 23 might not be as consistent as you want but you really don't want to go over that in a deck like this.

Yes, Guttersnipe would still deal damage because it says "each opponent" not "target opponent."
