You can't monstrous Polukranos if your opponent doesn't have any creatures. I remember Marshall mentioning that on the Limited Resources podcast, and he's one of the presenters at the GP. Guess he forgot?
I'm pretty sure that you can monstrous it under those circumstances. Polukranos, World Eater reads
"When Polukranos, World Eater becomes monstrous, it deals X damage divided as you choose among any number of target creatures your opponents control. Each of those creatures deals damage equal to its power to Polukranos."
I really don't like playing reckoner maindeck in red aggressive decks but it seems like a necessary evil this season. it clogs up the ground and supports a high devotion count for fanatic.
Red aggressive decks will play 4x of both for sure. We'll just have to see how many X/3 creatures are relevant before we know if Lightning Strike will see play in other decks.
I hate Searing Spear, I hate Lightning Strike. Would it have been so bad to give us a burn spell that doesn't feel so nerfed? Incinerate just feels like it should be the non-Bolt 3 damage burn spell. If they were going to reprint Searing Spear they should have just reprinted it instead of renaming it.
This is the first year in three that we haven't had a U/W counterspell based deck dominate the format. I imagine wizards is ensuring a break from this before reprinting the powerful Blue staples again.
I don't play blue decks, nor am I any good at piloting them but I look forward to a day when those cards are in standard again.
I have no problem with this existing. It's like Book Jace. You can still get a normal Jace Beleran for like $5 while the promo exists for the collectors.
This Black on Black walker set isn't going to affect almost anyone in the magic community. There won't be enough of them that you'll even likely see one outside of ebay ever. I've been playing competitive magic for more than a year now and casual for much longer than that and I've never seen a Book Jace.
Basically everyone in this thread complaining is overreacting about something that will likely never touch their lives.
I finished 5-3 in the PTQ today, unsure of number finish probably around 20th. I ran much worse than yesterday with the exact same 75.
Sorry for the rushed WMCQ report yesterday, I was typing it on my phone whilst falling asleep lol I hope this one is a better read.
Round 1 Bant Flash 2-0
Game one I nut drew him and in game 2 he had to mull to 4. I felt really bad about it.
Naya Aggro/Midrange 1-2
This guy had the nuts every game. In game one he played double reckoner and a bunch of other relevant cards to stall the board out and kill me. In game two I managed to win through triple domri, double reckoner and a smiter or two. Hellkite did a lot of work in the game. In game three I mull down to 6 and he follows this curve Pilgrim>Voice>Reckoner>Reckoner>Domri>Smiter>Reckoner. I actually would have killed him with my hellkite while holding up a board stall but he attacks in, I let his reckoners through and block other things, and he boros charms me for lethal. I feel like it's very incorrect to be leaving in boros charm against RG aggro. I was mildly irritated by that match.
Round 3 Bant Hexproof 2-1
Game one I nut draw him, the game is over on turn 4. Game two he plays a turn 2 GoST and suits it up. I manage to blasphemous act it and a smiter away but he follows up with Smiter>Unflinching Courage and I don't draw my second Act. Game 3 I nut draw him and there's nothing he can do.
I really liked Blas act in the matchup even though it didn't save me. He just had a very good draw in game 2.
Round 4 UWR 2-0
Game one was easy I just had early pressure and landed a hellkite. Ash zealot won me the game because he was at 4 health and didn't have an answer to the hellkite in hand so he flashbacked think twice in his graveyard to draw going to 1 and then drew a snapcaster to snap-scatter but the zealot prevented it. In game two Hound of Griselbrand and Devil's Play got there despite his playing multiple Sphinx Revs and Warleaders Helixes.
Round 5 RG Aggro 0-2
I play a slower higher curve build, my list is in my WMCQ report somewhere on this page I think, and he was on the stock list. In game one he had an aggressive hand while I did not, I almost stabilized but he got there with a Rampager. In game two I sided into heavy removal but had to mull to 5 to which he double burning tree into firefist on turn two'd me. I stabilize around 7 but he plays volc strength on an emissary but I can't draw an answer in time.
Round 6 Jund Midrange 2-0
This guy had a janky jund deck I had good hands both games. In game one though I played out 3 guys and then he decides to cast Killing Wave for 1... So I proceed to pay 3 life.... and then attack him with my team until he dies...
I think game 2 he mulled and I stalled on lands but eventual overran him with top end.
Round 7 GW midrange 0-2
I seem to have a round like this every tournament. A loss to a deck that I should be embarrassed to be in the same bracket as lol. In game one he curved out pilgrim>voice>smiter>Flash Wurm>Scion of Vitu Ghazi, populate wurm token.
In game two I felt fairly confident siding into the blasphemous act combo and Hound of griselbrand but I have to mull to 5 and then I draw nothing but lands after keeping 3 mountain, mizzium mortars, Blas act. I might have had a chance in that game if I hadn't hit the 8th land drop.
Round 8 UWR 2-0
Game one I beat him by playing around multiple verdicts and finishing him off with a pillar of flame. In game two I drew something like 6 pieces of top end, multiple hounds and hellriders and a hellkite. I eventually got there through double rev, double verdict, terminus, and multiple Dspheres.
I'm not as happy with today as I was with yesterday but it could have been worse. My losses were due to variance and not play mistakes
I've gotta say that I'm worried about these new Naya decks. They're definitely a bad matchup for us. I'm glad that they're not running Aurelia though which allows stall tactics to potentially work for them. The best solution is probably Volcanic Strength in the board but they still have a plethora of answers for that.

"Any number" can be equal to 0 I believe.
Also go Jon Stern!
4x Rakdos Cackler
4x firedrinker satyr
4x Burning-Tree Emissary
4x firefist striker
4x ash zealot
3x Boros Reckoner
4x Fanatic of mogis
4x lightning strike
4x magma jet
2x hammer of purphorous

Why can't we have pyreheart wolf?
I hate this card.
This card has taken me to multiple top 16 finishes at WMCQs and PTQs this year. That card is amazing, only held back by pillar of flame.
I don't play blue decks, nor am I any good at piloting them but I look forward to a day when those cards are in standard again.
