Yea, that's the thing, right? I get that there's no cost to start the game with an 8-card hand, but it just seems a bit too knee-jerky to not at least debate/consider reintroducing 'banned as general'/'banned as companion'.
We cannot know if they did or did not debate it. Their strong stance on the BaaC list, and its removal, seems to show they want streamlined over complicated. But I think being slightly more complex would be of benifit.
By the way, as the rules of EDH stands, since the companion isn't technically in the deck, does colour identity count? I get that it probably should, but not sure if the rules technically say that too.

I just think the 'no downside' was too much for even people who push Sol Ring. No way to interact outside counter-magic (not even discard or exile interaction) on a fairly powerful spell just seems dumb. I would have preferred it banned as companion (or just not allow companion to work), but it makes sense.

I think the card is really lazy design. You are right about the power-creep, its been so noticeable this year. I dont think it is worth a ban, its just another U/G goodstuff card people will either get sick of playing, or will draw so much hate it gets pulled.

You cannot. Bolt Bend has targeting restrictions "of target spell or ability with a single target". Since you cannot fulfill that, it is not a legal target. A spell without a legal target cannot be cast.

So the vast majority wants high power and combo. If there were people who wanted to play at a lower power level, you would be able to cultivate that. If you have not been, that is unfortunate, but also a rarity. The alternative is a repressive ban list that does not allow people and the format to thrive. You have never been able to articulate an alternative past 'do what makes it better for me'.

I think a way better example would be expropriate. Maasaybe wotc primarily made it for draft (unlikely for mythic), but most likely for commander I think most would agree. And it suuuuuucks.
Or a multitude of the Legends in Commander products.

Coffers is OK, but has no real protection, kill it. Every Commander deck should be able to deal with 1-3 problem lands.
