So then he isn't allowed to own - buy or sell - Magic cards of his own, because he works for CFB in a purchasing position. I still don't see the logic - I would assume someone I would hire in that position would understand that the two are separate. Yes, someone in his position could act unscrupulously with the company cards, but wouldn't someone who DOESN'T have a personal collection be just as capable of those actions? If he was using the system to manipulate prices for his own personal gain, sure, there would be an argument there, but I don't think it's inherently a conflict of interests since he is morally obligated - and possibly contractually obligated - to not do that.
If CFB hires someone in the industry to run their inventories, does that mean that person is obligated to stop buying or selling cards for personal use? That's ridiculous. Does that mean when I worked in product processing at Best Buy, I was no longer allowed to watch movies on my free time?
As for your bolded statement - emphasis mine - ...what? Someone with a full time job seems plenty likely to have money available for multiple playsets?
If you consider his feedback history and the 2500+ sales of MTG goods he has completed, it becomes obvious that this isn't just a side hobby. The scale of his Ebay business directly overlaps with his paid position over at CFB. It's a conflict of interest, and he's probably making more $$$ from Ebay than his paycheck from Jon Saso.
What I'm most interested in is how he only sells high-end singles. When you crack packs, you can't only pull money rares. Alternatively, maybe he bought all those singles to sell for profit? Surely he finds the time and opportunity outside of his full-time responsibility as a buyer for CFB to take care of his own personal interests?
Precisely that. What you (Anne Noise) are talking about is a private collection, but TSG's ebay account (that he admitted to the police was his) has more than a common "personal collection" would ever have. As for the part you bolded, you get cards in one of three ways: buy/trade for them, crack packs/boxes and lastly, playing limited. As Vaise says, if you crack a box, you need to unload the chaff to turn a profit. You cannot get ahead by just breaking boxes and selling mythics. I don't believe he had the time/money/energy to trade/buy them off the premises of CFB and in his own time. I don't believe he had the time to play so much Limited that he had multiple playsets of Bonfire. Anyway, believe what you like, I don't believe he did it all in his own time and with his own resources and I think his ebay store creates a massive conflict of interest beyond being just a random player with a random collection working in a game shop.
So because he's involved with the game, he... can't sell his personal stock? I agree that in many situations it would be a conflict of interests, and clearly here it bit TSG in the ass in some context, but to say its bad taste to participate in the game you love both professionally and personally is strange.
He's not just a writer or Magic TV personality. His job at CFB was acquisitions and sales of Magic cards, exactly what his "personal stock" is comprised of. How is that NOT a conflict of interest? How does someone with a full time job find time/capital to have multiple playsets of tier 1 mythics in his so-called "personal stock". Riiiiiiiiiiight. You can hire him to work in your store, then.
I don't understand why Khal Drogo is Kresh and not Godo, Bandit Warlord. Godo is a barbarian (which Drogo basically is), he's got a long pony tail (which Drogo has), he spends most of his time on "horseback" or something similar to a horse (which Drogo does). I don't know, but in my mind I have always considered Godo like Drogo (<--- even similar names!).
For those asking about lords, particularly a goblin lord, Mark Rosewater had this to say on this Tumbler post:
tommypops asked: Why were Goblins not given a lord in m13? Seems like a big middle finger to red, seeing as how it is the worst color at the moment.
What is Krenko, chopped liver?
So his answer indicates that he considers Krenko to be a "lord" even though "lord" has been synonymous with a) non-legendary creatures and b) dudes that pump other dudes of a creature type. Pretty loose definition.
The sad part is that for those of us who play Commander on MTGO, we cannot use this banned list for 1v1. The program won't allow "freeform" Commander games.
I always check between mtgotraders.com and supernovabots.com, which shows a list of cards on the left and a list of bots and their stock on the right. There is also Cardbot, which is another pretty big bot chain. Lastly, once you know your way around trading you can check out mtgolibrary.com, which has a search engine for the bots that use their software. All of the bots I mentioned have their own unique advantages and you should take some time to find the bots that work best for you. Good luck!
I was going through the deck builders filter and saw there was the Graveborn decks series listed in it so maybe its already online and it just happened to be another prize thing so many people didn't know about it.
Nah, it's way too big a deal. They haven't been released yet and since the last two (Fire and Lightning and Slivers) were prizes, as you said, I expect this to be as well. But considering foil Entombs go for $50+ and foil Reanimates are about $9, I can see these being a big deal and highly collected. This has way more sought after (i.e. constructed playable) cards than the previous Premium Deck Series decks.
I just started with MTGO as well, and I have run into this exact stuff too. I don't understand it either, it's the Just For Fun Room for beginners.
Do people come in with decks or play in there just to beat noobs?
You and I could exchange info and play, since it seems to be half d-bags on mtgo.
Cheers
MTGO is full of trolls and asshats waiting to spoil other people's fun. There are people who bring tier 1 decks into the area for new players and curb stomp people. Sad but true. The thing is not to dwell on them and try to make connections with cool easy-going players. Best way is through banter while playing. When you find someone you enjoyed playing with buddy them and/or ask them if they want to play another game. MTGO is only as good as you make it and through effort and making friends, you eventually won't need to jump into queues with random players.
Wikiprice is still not working properly, but it will definitely be running again smoothly in short time. The issue we are facing is database-related, and it is basically due to the heavy traffic the server is receiving
So not what we thought exactly (player made cubes) but basically you'll soon have the ability to play with Tom LePille's Online Cube in 4-3-2-2 Phantom Drafts for a limited time only.
Fixed. One of the more disappointing parts is they won't always be available. Then again, it might be that they are just testing the waters and want to see the sales figures before deciding what to do next with Cube on MTGO.
And it should be added that although some formats have scheduled events, they never fire (i.e. 100-CS and Kaleidoscope [a Legacy card pooled format that only allows multi-coloured spells]).
That's an easy problem to solve: just publish the pricelist as one big text file, updated at regular intervals.
That sounds impossible since you can't merely list each card and its price because MTGOLibrary is a program not a bot itself and each card has dozens of prices from various bots, not to mention other information such as their buy prices and quantity they buy.

Looks like there will a lot less theft than expected at these events.
Joking aside, I feel really bad for LSV. Seems like such a great stand-up guy and to be betrayed is pretty crushing.

Emphasis (bold) is his.
I guess this is kind of good news.

Also, check out this forum here for player run events (PREs).
